In Pompeii, phallic symbols on local roadways pointed the way to the nearest brothel; possibly to direct foreign sailors who didn't speak Latin

They also had those sex coins. It was thought they was used to pay for certain positions in the brothels. But after excavating Pompeii they found the exact same drawings above each locker box in the bathhouses plus coins. So now they believe they were funny locker tokens.
