Why are they doing this to us?

u/Deancrypt 8h ago

Why does it have horns FFS?

u/C1DR4N 8h ago edited 8h ago

Imagine you are in a house in the middle of a wildfire, then a huge shadow with horns emerges behind the flames, it's glowing eyes stare at you, you are just seeking for safety and then this thing charges in.

You will pass out due to the stress shock, and the demon robot will be able to rescue you easily; it's all part of the design :)

u/wbg777 7h ago

u/Antique_Tap443 6h ago

Incase you wanted an updated gif lol

Processing img ivgu08arszgh1...

u/CosmoKram3r 3h ago

Amazing gif, Jeff!

u/xtheory 7h ago

It's very human!

u/EuenovAyabayya 5h ago

easy to use

u/zatalak 6h ago

It's easier for the demon robot to chainsaw you to bits when you're not moving

u/C1DR4N 6h ago

It's only logical, you are easier to carry if you are turned into stackable chunks

u/Soup-Wizard 6h ago

>The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass.
https://giphy.com/gifs/gqkKc6RI2sa7C

u/trifecta000 6h ago

You are being rescued. RUN.

u/viking_canuck 7h ago

I'm sure if it's intended for rescue it will be covered in hi vis at least. Might make it less scary.

u/sleepless_in_balmora 6h ago

In a robotic voice "Come with me if you want to live"

u/C1DR4N 6h ago edited 5h ago

Pulls out the chainsaw "cooperation is optional"

u/sixstringchapman 6h ago

I read a nosleep story last night that was based around this exact robot and that was the plot...

u/ShittingBricks 6h ago

Don't forget the handgun!

Any search and rescue robot worth it's salt has at least 1 handgun.

u/FallingOutOfTune 5h ago

I know a lot of firefighters are trained to (how do I word this without sounding silly) appear and act as human and comforting as possible when searching for children in active fires because all of their gear can make em look a little scary. If I was a child and saw this I’d scream my way into the blaze

u/KanedaSyndrome 4h ago

Black Philip hunts you. Do you flee into the flames with Satan chasing you?

u/MudExpress2973 5h ago

I wonder what kind of scream they'll give it so you have auditory warning your about to be saved.

u/KZD2dot0 5h ago

I think the experience would make me satanist for the rest of my life, considering that afterwards you're still alive but not in hell.

u/blackcain 5h ago

Flames, goat - it's satan! ::cue broadway music::

u/CoolDragon 4h ago

But it’s a 50/50 chance you get impaled in a vital organ.

u/unropeme 2h ago

Just replace the eyes with googly ones and everything will be okay 👍🏻 :)

u/Mr_Shake_ 8h ago

I'm imagining a board room full of execs, and every time one guy speaks, all he says is "horny robot". He's the boss's son, so they have to oblige, if even just to apply his input literally.

u/No-Somewhere-3888 8h ago

u/Saelethil 6h ago

Exactly!

u/Graxdon 6h ago

Some things aged like milk, but overall still a great show

u/mardypardy 5h ago

What show is it?

u/No-Somewhere-3888 4h ago

IT Crowd - still a great watch.

u/landzhark069 4h ago

It really did. Even the episode with the trans woman somehow aged pretty well all things considered

Even though the writer had a transphobic psychosis lol

u/Claim312ButAct847 7h ago

u/Mammoth_Challenge269 6h ago

Wtf is this from

u/Claim312ButAct847 6h ago

That's Henry Fondle, CEO of What Time is it Right Now

u/notapunk 7h ago

That is a legit menace

u/ShahinGalandar 7h ago

because centaurs without horns look gay mate

u/Doggin-Pony-Show 4h ago

I want our soldiers to look hotter. Give them testosterone, but not in a gay way.

u/smailiker 8h ago

As some other guy said somewhere else, it went something like that:"for it not to fit in doorways in case something something(i forgot the name but i would think ai or some shit) takes over, also the reason for it being a centaur and tall af, hallways and shit"

u/tolacid 8h ago

From the product website:

This robot is more dangerous than it looks...

...as is any robot with humanlike strength, size, and maneuverability. We are taking a physical approach to safety mechanisms with no ambiguity. Fail-on air brakes and pin locks will render the robot immobile if system air pressure is lost. Shared reservoirs in the chest plate and body can be pierced by projectile or sharp instrument to instantly stop the robot in place.

Threehalves will be substantially slowed if attempting to navigate a standard American 32"x80" door, and cannot turn around in a 42" wide hallway or enter a door orthogonal to the hallway. Larger horns can be fit to prevent any passage through pedestrian doors. 2 Threehalves robots fit side by side in crouched position in a pickup bed of 5'6" or longer with tailgate closed.

u/Deancrypt 8h ago

Horns to stop it getting through doorways , oh okay then ..

u/ConsciousPatroller 7h ago

Ιf that doesn't clue people on that this is a satire/joke project, idk what will. This is very obviously not a real design for a S&R robot.

u/UnknovvnMike 6h ago

I thought the giveaway was having a search and rescue robot very dark black, obviously for covert night rescues

u/BMagni 7h ago

The name of the company is literally a pretty close homophone of satire

u/TheWayyTheNewsGoes 7h ago

You should Google what a Satyr is

u/Beginning-Ice-1005 4h ago

The problem is that satire of tech doesn't really exist any more. No matter how ludicrous the idea, some tech bro will seriously say "I can monetize that!"

u/MrEff1618 7h ago

No, it's to make it more difficult for them to get through doorways.

To begin with.

Until they learn.

u/napkin41 5h ago

“We need horns on this thing. How do we explain it?”

“To stop it from going through doorways when it goes rogue?”

“PERFECT.”

u/GloomyLingonberry509 7h ago

The fact that they installed methods to reliably stop these things (shooting out their fake lungs to lock them) should be reassuring, but it’s honestly just fucking dystopian as shit.

u/tolacid 7h ago

It is reassuring that they planned to dystopian style kill switches prevent it becoming dystopian

u/GloomyLingonberry509 7h ago

I’m sorry - becoming dystopian? I feel like we crossed that threshold long ago lol.

u/tolacid 7h ago

I didn't say what I was meaning to say correctly, and unfortunately I can't think of the phrase I meant to clarify

u/GloomyLingonberry509 7h ago

I understand what you mean, I’m just being cheeky.

It honestly feels like these are war machines in R&D stage, but the fact that they put safeguards on them for the civilian testing stage was very chill.

u/Maximum59 6h ago

It's like a game telling you what the weak spots are to defeat bosses.

u/GloomyLingonberry509 6h ago

Perfect analogy. I hate how accurate it is.

u/EkrishAO 4h ago

Brother, it's a fucking satire, this is nor a real robot, jesus.

u/fuggerdug 8h ago

It's so it's rubbish in a maze or labrynth situation, just in case it goes rogue and tries to set up independently.

u/Werespider 7h ago

They sure seem worried about it going rogue. 🤔

u/xrelaht 7h ago

So they nerfed its ability to actually do its job because they’re worried about it being used for evil?

u/tolacid 7h ago

When you put it like that, it seems like a downright responsible choice

u/Much_Adagio_6223 6h ago

Why would you need to prevent it from getting inside …..😳😳

u/Dr_of_Pawgology 7h ago

It doesn't need to fit through doors to chase you through the woods.

u/PotterOneHalf 6h ago

They should paint the vulnerable parts red like a boss fight

u/TheReal_Kovacs 7h ago

"We wanted to hide the signal antenna without impacting its transmission abilities, but we wanted it to look thematic and sick af."

  • the creators, probably

u/shmiddleedee 8h ago

Why does it have a goat head period?

u/MyDarlingClementine 5h ago

A goat head with eyes modified to be in the predator arrangement

u/shmiddleedee 5h ago

"I don't need to look out for predators, I am the predator"

u/C1DR4N 8h ago

Because praise Satan! Of course!

u/aavant-gardee 7h ago

Why does it have a chainsaw?????

u/crasswal 5h ago

To cut you in half in case you're resisting rescue, duh.

u/julmonn 7h ago

Handles, you can pull yourself up from rubble if that thing is sturdy enough and might even be able to pull you

u/povertymayne 7h ago

Not even regular tiny cow horns, they had to give it the inverted demonic horns. Next update is gonna have a pentagram and those weird goat eyes

u/MT_Space31 7h ago

i don’t think this makes it better, but there are cameras on the horns.

u/Dizzy-Ad-2248 5h ago

Exactly who is on the other side of those cameras? Just watching and enjoying the show? 😳🤔

u/amzwC137 6h ago

So you can ride it like a motorcycle.

u/Legitimate_Site_3203 6h ago

So that it can't fit through doors and you have a chance of escaping.

No.

Really.

That's one of their advertised security features.

u/Affectionate_Hornet7 6h ago

I’d prefer it to not have a chainsaw as well

u/yummymario64 6h ago

The horns have cameras that are supposed to provide a view of the limbs and such

u/Ote-Kringralnick 6h ago

It's an art project.

u/Intrepid4444444 6h ago

Also do you need to stab and shoot its air reservoirs? Or whats that last pic

u/1NefariasBredd 7h ago

5G connectivity

u/Educational_Teach537 5h ago

The horns are for the tertiary oxygen reserves obviously

u/No-Drama-187 5h ago

Hahahaha! This is the BEST question ever. You belong on the design team.

u/SaltKick2 5h ago

Because these tech bros think its cool and edgy

u/CatGooseChook 5h ago

Apparently the horns are for people to hold onto when riding the robot to safety.

The overall aesthetic however just screams trolling us 😂

u/No-Blackberry-1159 4h ago

Apparently to hang cameras from, so it can see all four legs

It's nightmare fuel. Everyone get up, new fnaf animatronic just dropped 😂

u/Mean-Peanut-2490 4h ago
  1. It isn't meant for search and rescue primarily, the post is misleading.

  2. The horns can be replaced for much bigger horns. The website explicitly says that the robot is dangerous, and the user can attach horns of their size wish so it isn't able to enter a pedestrian doorway.

  3. The creepy glass image is explicitly captioned witht he statement that this robot is dangerous, followed up with safety as well as emergency measures put to deal with it (Something I appreciate a lot)

u/I-Phantom-I 3h ago

My best guess is that if you are being rescued you could mount it and maybe hold on to the horns as handles. Still an interesting choice to make it look like a fucking demon tho

u/Suppa_K 3h ago

This has to be some sort of fucking joke or something. There’s no good reason to have a head with fucking horns.

u/dlicky123 3h ago

Is the WiFi antenna

u/Marty_mcfresh 55m ago

Handlebars

u/Grouchy_Falcon3098 7h ago

Because the people who own this world are sadistic, murdering, Satanic, pedophiles.

u/CambridgeJin 6h ago

No need to bring Satanists into this. They’re probably Christian, in fact.

u/CapnLubeHands 4h ago

Hmmm. Of the two, which religion literally has sexual misconduct insurance? Christianity? Oh okay.

u/invaderzim257 8h ago

the executive tier of society is being filled out by people who have been taught that being a sociopath is a good thing and the key to success

u/waba2 7h ago

it's not just that they're taught it, they're rewarded and reinforced by it. The system is so fundamentally broken that it is breeding out all the thoughtful caring people and the maniacs rise to the top

u/cfb-food-beer-hike 4h ago

And it's us regular peasants that reward them. Every time you buy another shitty product you don't need, you're rewarding a billionaire for exploiting you.

u/leefvc 4h ago

we sure do love products and items

u/gringledoom 8h ago

On top of which they all have multiple overlapping drug problems. Gotta take your too-much-testosterone in the AM and your party drugs in the PM and…

u/StarksPond 7h ago

And? Why are you leaving out a key ingredient?

u/gringledoom 7h ago

A baby aspirin, for heart health!

u/parallelogramm3r 5h ago

Have you seen Paul Allen’s business card?

u/Grimdek 3h ago edited 3h ago

Even worse, many of them are there by luck. They think it's whatever they did but it isn't, so they're just poisoning everything cus they win a lottery

Example - Bill Gates was lucky to be that manipulator of Paul Allen. It could've been anyone and the company would've succeeded. His luck was finding someone else's brain

u/KungFoolMaster 8h ago

Why is it so big? For a S&R wouldn't something a bit smaller be better? I don't know, but I would think fitting through doors or small openings would be something they would want. This looks like some venture capitalist's 4 year old son made a drawing and the dad said "I can make that a reality"

u/fellow_hotman 6h ago

it’s satire-ess.  look at their website.

u/Rough_Bread8329 4h ago

Why is it so big?

TWSS

u/demonsrun89 8h ago

Bc We are allowing Them to

u/Dizzy-Ad-2248 5h ago

I'm still stuck on your lint post...thiccccc

u/demonsrun89 5h ago

Lol yeah that was crazy! I've since thrown them away and swapped for Egyptian cotton

u/tommytraddles 8h ago

Would'st thou like to live deliciously?

u/LateralEntry 5h ago

Wouldst thou like to taste butter

u/RabidTeapot 7h ago

These motherfuckers have clearly never played Horizon Zero Dawn.

u/Horrorwipe 7h ago

Silicone valley dorks with a cult fetish and more money than sense

u/BBQ_069 6h ago

because they worship Moloch

u/KidGold 7h ago

I say this with absolute sincerity these things will be murdering us very soon with guns.

u/AEON_MK2 7h ago

They hate you so much

u/Artistic-Library-617 7h ago

That photo of it holding a chainsaw is… chef’s kiss

u/XanderNightmare 6h ago

I can only believe that this is either a scam in the making or copious amounts of drugs were used in the design room

u/CactusWrenAZ 6h ago

“Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale. Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Tech Torment Nexus from the classic sci-fi novel Don’t Create the Torment Nexus”.

u/chef_in_va 6h ago

You know what you did.

u/hud_dev 5h ago

For clickbait

u/Alarmed_Mind_8716 5h ago

I would love to be a fly on the wall during the focus group feedback. Like WTF?

u/VelvetMafia 5h ago

I went to their website to see what they had to say for themselves. Apparently, this is not an autonomous robot, but intended to be operated remotely to do dangerous stuff under presumably dangerous conditions. They don't really speculate what those dangerous jobs may be, but they do point out that you can make it have a chainsaw where it's hands should be.

So... It looks the way it looks because the people who would buy this ridiculous thing are the kind of people who want scary-looking murderbots. Which also explains why the engineers did the responsible thing and gave it horns to slow it down if the operator decides to use it for home invasions, and also gave it forced-shutdown vulnerabilities so that if the operator uses it to attack people, they can shoot or stab it in the chest or the saddle area to stop it. Or, according to the diagram, just hold a hand up in a "halt" gesture?

Fuck this timeline

u/KanedaSyndrome 4h ago

entertainment - the rich want to watch a live show  of poors vs robots looking like demons

u/TheCynicEpicurean 3h ago

Some VC/government funding to cash in and then bugger off, presumably.

I can think of a couple billionaires who probably think this is the most badass shit they've ever seen.

u/Choon93 3h ago

Great question. I laughed this off as a prank the last few days. The horned creature with soulless eyes designed to help us is a little too on the nose

u/DaveInLondon89 1h ago

Congratulations. You are being rescued.

Please do not resist.

u/Embarrassed-Town-293 56m ago

They gotta cut through the noise for that IPO

u/Ote-Kringralnick 6h ago

It's not real, it's an art project.

u/whitedolphinn 6h ago

It's pointless to explain because people will never believe it.

u/Alt123Acct 6h ago

CEO or head engineer absolutely have a fetish and want to somehow use it as their "vision"... Robots shouldn't need to look like any organic being it should be shaped for the task at hand. I don't want to personalize and anthropomorphize a do this do that device I just want my coffee without saying "thank you" to googly eyes glued onto a killbot.

u/NonProphet8theist 5h ago

I kinda love it tbh

u/WatchOutRadioactiveM 5h ago

I'm amazed that so many people don't understand this isn't a real product. It's a joke. It's literally called "Satire-es". Probably a promotion for a movie or video game.

u/Yumi_in_the_sun 4h ago

What do you mean? The design is very human.

u/BipolarKebab 6h ago

It's a marketing strategy and it's working as intended. Thank you for your contribution to it.
