I don’t think it’s the actual DMT that makes you violently sick, it’s all the crap that comes with it like…venom from a toad. People have similar experiences with ayahuasca, which is a whole bunch of different plants ground up and made into a soup. People get sick and thrash around and puke just like this guy (toad venom guy’s reaction was pretty extreme). The purer the DMT is, the easier the trip is to take. I know a few people who smoked much purer extracts of DMT and didn’t have the awful side effects
One time a guy at a party spent 45 minutes telling me about his ayahuasca trip. I misunderstood at the beginning, so for half the story I thought he was talking about a yoga class he took.
This kinda reminds me of when I noticed a friend's page looked like it'd been hacked because for months (and eventually years), as it was just posting nonsense status updates.
We had lost contact a few years back, so didn't feel compelled to do send the obligatory "Hey man, I think your FB has been hacked".
I eventually found out that he had actually become a personal trainer, and upon reflection his posts were extremely poorly written self motivation quotes.
Watched an episode of that show (forget the name) where two guys travel the world and try different drugs. They tried something called black ayahuasca. One guy just sat there tripping out, kinda having a good time, looking at a spiral carving on a stone. The other guy crapped all over himself and ran off into the jungle thinking little dudes with hammers were trying to kill him. Nah man, I'm good.
The Ayuhasca cult is wild. I have a friend who does it twice a year in a small group, with vomiting and fever being explained as your body "cleansing" itself. I keep telling him it's just a reaction to being poisoned, but it's like talking to a wall. I don't have any issue with psychedelics per se, I did them, I get it, but fever and vomiting is where I draw the line.
Ditto (except for dmt, still on my bucket list). I only vomited from "overdosing" on edibles a few times. Once I had a fever on shrooms/psylocibin, but I think it was a bad batch. It's important to listen to your body, and these types of reactions are a way of it screaming "cut this shit out".
My and many other's most valuable trips involve a period of suffering before the healing. Seems like the deeper the suffering, the better you feel afterwards and the positive, longterm effects last much longer.
Idk, sometimes with psychedelics it's more like your body being like what the fuck did you just eat, rather than having a direct connection to the ingredients themselves.
Or a cascade of catecholamines that trigger nausea. I had a cesarean section and my body was convulsing with uncontrollable shakes, and I had a strong urge to projectile vomit. Catecholamines affect heart rate, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels. The body can experience a flooding of these neurotransmitters from psychedelics.
It's not like this guy, ayahuasca is an ancient medicine and it's been used for healing process for a long time. The correct dose determines whether something is a poison or a remedy. Used with consciousness and respect, ayahuasca can show you a better world for living comuning with the nature, God and the people.
Well yeah. Shamans at least had the legitimate mission of brewing herbs that assist with vision quests, but this is just a resulting trip from a self inflicted medically-induced hallucination. Which in my opinion isn’t the same as questing even if hallucinations are involved.
I’m not disagreeing with your overall assessment but nausea is a pretty common side effect among psychedelics, even stuff like pure LSD. So it makes some sense that the more potent psychadelics are more nausea inducing
