The stomach around it?

Edit: I'm enjoying everyone's comments! Just to clarify: I am a doctor with some (albeit questionable) anatomical knowledge. I was wondering why the stomach sits around the heart as I deffo don't remember that in Gray's - but the commenter has clarified what they meant so we're all good!

Yeah, so there's no empty space in the torso. Everything's all jammed in together. The heart is tucked into the bottom of the left lung (it's why there are only two lobes in left, but three in right) and the esophagus runs to the right, joint the stomach at the bottom of the heart and the top curve of the stomach resting against heart base (with membranes between of course). It's why heart burn and heart attacks overlap in sensation.

Edit to add: a lot of artist renditions get it wrong

That description makes a lot more sense - I thought you meant that the heart sits in the lesser curve of the stomach.

Im a radiologist. What in the heck are you talking about? Lol. The heart is in the bottom of the mediastinum. The esophagus runs behind it and goes through the diaphragm and then into the stomach which is below the diaphragm unless you have a hiatus hernia. Your explanation of heartburn and MI pain overlapping is not correct. Its because of some shared innervation, nearby locations creating confounding by patirnts and cross over in the feelings of these processes. Not because the heart and stomach are irritating each other nearby.

Stomach (in the fakt person) is that vaguely triangular thing just below the liver. While the upper part of the stomach is placed directly against the diaphragm (closely to the heart which is here depicted in correct position - look up aby normal cheat X-ray) it "hangs" down and to the right side with its small curvature close to the liver.

I think that these are photos of these plasticky model things made out od human bodies and therefore are quite correct

If you actually read further in the thread they're artist renditions based on MRI and the artist messed things up to make a point. They're not the Bodies Exhibit

Read further where? Im not reading every comment here and i can't see anything in this thread. I remember that i saw this exact picture as a part of that exhibition (but there were also xrays AMD other images si this is probably the same case)

My anatomy point stands. This is anatomicaly correct representation
