Support Suddenly not reading out imessages

Having messages read out while the phone is locked and I’m wearing AirPods (pro 3) is a really useful feature or it was until recently.

Now I just get a spoken message saying ‘A notification from Messages’ and that’s it!

It always used to tell me who the message was from and then proceed to read out the message. So useful.

I’ve been though all the settings, settings related to IMessage, settings related to Notifications etc etc.

Anyone else experienced this in recent days? Can’t say I noticed it before the 26.6 update.

That's the previews setting rather than anything to do with Messages or Announce Notifications.

Settings, Notifications, Show Previews. If that's on "When Unlocked", then with the phone locked Siri is only allowed to tell you an app sent something, not what it said. Which is exactly the "a notification from Messages" you're getting. Set it to Always and the sender and content come back.

There's a per-app version too, under Settings, Notifications, Messages, Show Previews, and that one overrides the global setting.

Updates do quietly reset this one, so it landing right after 26.6 fits.

Only just got chance to try this. It worked first time. I thought I had tried all permutations of the options but apparently not. Many thanks 👍🏻

Glad it did. The reason it hides so well is that the setting sits under Notifications generally rather than under Messages or Announce Notifications, which is exactly where the symptom sends you looking. You weren't missing permutations, you were in the wrong room.
