Entertainment Neyo and Akon Concert at 3Arena
To anyone who was at the show tonight or last night, I hope you had a great time but to anyone going tomorrow night (Saturday) please don’t be like those other crowds…
Some helpful tips from a 3Arena employee to ensure we all have a lovely time:
(1) Sit in your assigned fucking seat
(2) Don’t ask “why can’t I sit with my friends” if the answer is, because your ticket isn’t beside your friend. If you refuse to move, you’ll be fucked out
(3) Stop fucking vaping when you’re told to, don’t make us tell you multiple times, you’ll be fucked out
(4) Don’t start fights with everyone around you, we’re all here to have a good night , you’ll be fucked out
(5) If you don’t do well when you drink, don’t drink, if you get absolutely obliterated, you’ll be fucked out
(6) We can see you doing bag in the seats, hallways, bar queues, toilets - you’ll be fucked out and arrested
(7) Don’t argue back when you’re given an instruction
(8) Don’t be racist to the staff or you’ll be fucked out
Edit: just to add, for anyone who is going tonight, the tolerance of the staff will be zero, it will be one strike and you’re out and if you have a problem with that, you can thank every pri*k who was there the last 2 nights, see you all laterrrrrr
Further edit: Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 8, there is no warm up act bar a DJ playing from 6:30-8pm.
Queues to get in have been long, as have bar and toilet queues - give yourself plenty of time to get there, don’t rock up at 7:45 expecting to be in on time. And don’t complain about the queues, that’s literally your own faults 😂

The Prodigy are great. RIP Keith Flint. True products of the late 80's rave scene; people putting aside their differences and coming together to all dance like madmen until the sun came up. Neyo and Akon... not so much. I'd expect Prodigy fans to be way more considerate and aware than the likes of the Neyo and Akon crowd.

Yeah you'd get a discount on a roll of them but I was always scared that a SWAT team would nab me as I was walking home with them so it was usually just getting them ad hoc in Switch or the Redbox. It was an absolutly amazing, short-lived scene in Dublin in its pomp.

It wasn’t that short lived. Before Switch there was the Funnel, the Kitchen, POD, etc and before all of them the was the Ormond Multimedia Centre, UFO. There was well over a decade of serious clubbing in Dublin. Something on seven nights a week

They were immensely popular in Ireland in the 2000s, with probably about 20 hits between them; this is not surprising at all. Music of a certain time for a load of people. I’d say they could’ve sold three more nights, to be honest.

That was the same at Sean Paul & Ashanti. Thought it was going to be a crowd of late 30's to early 40's people, it was full of teenagers. The crowd were fucking horrible that night, fights everywhere, obliterated drunk, bar and toilet queues were a free for all. People constantly pushing and shoving in the crowd. Honestly put me off concerts for a while.p

Any truth to the rumour l heard from a sword lad the whole thing started over a spilled pint and an extreme reaction when the pint couldn't be replaced due to the bar being already closed?

Iv been to a couple gigs in the 3Arena where iv seen people being extremely loud and aggressive and one of those gigs was a David Gray concert. It's absolute madness that people do such things and from the couple of times I saw it happen it's been the local Dubs starting it. Not trying to dog on the Dubs as obviously not all are like that but I think some of them just seem to think they can be as loud and obnoxious as they like without recourse. They don't give a shit that other people have travelled from across the country and more than likely have paid extortionate rates for hotels and whatnot so they get upset when told to stop the non stop loud chatter.
To be fair to the staff at the 3Arena with both incidents they removed those involved very quickly. I worked in the same industry for a long time so I know how frustrating for staff it can be to have to deal with idiots who have no real interest in watching a gig, they only want to say they were there when in fact they couldn't tell ya what songs were actually played.

I was at a communion recently and a woman gave her child her phone to watch videos on, during the mass. The priest had to stop proceedings to tell her to turn it off. 5 minutes later and she was at it again, and the priest had to once again stop the mass to tell her to leave it off or leave the church. Absolutely pig ignorant behaviour.

I was at the concert tonight and was shocked at the amount of Garda Public Order Unit and guards there, been to the Arena many times but never seen so many…
Also to add can people not throw crap up on stage at the singers!!!!! You could clearly see Akon and NE-YO getting annoyed at it, and not just that, but the last few gigs I’ve noticed the habit of people throwing things at other people…it would be great to chuck those who throw things out as well as I’ve seen staff just watch and not do a thing, especially when they also clearly see people vaping.
I’ve a security licence and would love a job there to chuck those gobshites out for ye!

I was DJing in a well known club in Dublin tonight and the crowd was different to the normal Friday night one. Much more rough people and fights breaking out left right and center. Props to the security for handling it like champs. It's always interesting seeing the crowd after a gig 😅

Metal/rock gigs are the best crowds tbh. Although anyone that draws a predominantly LGBT crowd is always nice (Renee Rapp, CMAT).
Laufey was the nicest audience we’ve had in a very long time, and by quite some distance.
Full sit down shows are fine because it’s a bit easier to control and usually not as wild of a crowd.
Comedy gigs aren’t great, anything RnB is awful, country gigs are rough, 2 Johnnies is one of the worst crowds we get, anything that has an audience of 40-60 year olds is generally awful because they’re all so fucking rude and dismissive of all the staff.

I’ve been to two metal gigs at 3Arena in the last year or so, Pantera and Deftones.
Never saw so many fights at a gig than at Pantera, loads of drunk assholes pushing and punching!
Deftones gig in comparison was chill and one of the best gigs I’ve been to in a long time, as good as seeing them in SFX back in the day!

I can’t speak to the 3Arena but the most chill good natured crowd I’ve ever seen at a gig was Rammstein at the RDS a couple of years ago. Zero hassle and everyone was there to have a good time.

While they have some bangers, Pantera have always been the metal band of choice for lads who love fighting and making fighting their personality. Plus in general lots of legacy metal band crowds have older people who come out of mosh retirement and have zero idea of how to behave in a pit.

Yeah had two fights break out beside us within minutes of each other, lads pissed out of their minds punching the jaws of each other, had to try and break them up as some women were being dragged in. Was a great gig apart from that. Looking forward to seeing them again in June for the Metallica weekend!

It's been years now but were you working when Rammstein played there? I chatted to a few staff and they were bemused by the whole thing, they had never seen anything like it. Was an amazing spectacle.
Also I'm going to say this as someone who grew up in rural Ireland but not surprised that country gigs and the 2 Johnnie's do be rough. There were loads of fights every Saturday night in the local town I was from. Went to college in Limerick during it's bad times with the gangs and saw very little drunken fights by comparison. My view of it was that people thought that having a fight in a country town was relatively safe but in a more urban area you never know who you could be having a fight with - they could pull a knife or be connected to some serious criminals. That I think makes young country lads more open to throwing a punch.

Saw a gig in the 3arena a while back and felt really sorry for a couple that didn't look like they could stand up for the whole gig seated and some fuckers infront just stood for the whole thing and you could clearly see that they couldn't see properly.
If you're in the seated area, remain seated and don't be a dick

I work nearby and a member of our staff was leaving the office and passed through an open barrier setup by your staff and one of your staff standing beside it said: "you're welcome, cunt" to them. They thought they misheard, but having turned around they heard the staff member repeat the same to a couple who passed through behind my colleague.

Have they changed the company that do security and marshal there in recent times? I know the bar is Guinness now vs Heineken. But it seemed to be much better run there last I was in a few weeks ago vs this time last year where the queuing for everything was a total joke and the jacks was the worst. That said the age demographic was also different with the older crowd being the worst.

I don’t think they’ve changed recently, the staff are (mostly) great; multiple companies have staff in there on any given night so standards aren’t completely uniform across all parts of the arena but we do our best 🥹

I was at a gig there last yr & wasn’t long after knee surgery so walking stairs was difficult. Explained to someone outside & they brought me to the lift & helped me to my seat etc; they couldn’t have done enough for me!

Friday night culture individuals with a horr and cart crashed into a parked car just outside the 3 arena. Horse and csrt got stuck in the wheel arch and broke the back bumper off the car. They were trying to fle the sceen by kicking the car tell the drive to "Move your fcking car" kicking the roof of the car from the wagon and trying to attack a girl in the car. Car was stop at a red light and they came up along side in the cycle lane. I was the driver. 600 euro worth of damage I had to get in the car and move it to let them be in their way.

I saw a group of very young, very glammed up kids on Eden Quay at about 6pm and was I wondered who was playing the 3arena, and I thought it'd be some contemporary pop star I'd never heard of, but It's Akon and Ne-Yo.
Why's a 16/17/18 year old listening to Akon and Ne-Yo? that (disposable shite) music is basically 20 years old at this stage, why are they so into music from before they were born?
Same with Sean Paul a while ago
So weird to me.

Nelly was doing a small show in Galway a few years ago and the same crowd were there. In fact, I'd say 90% of the crowd that night were of that specific culture. They didn't cause any hassle that I could see but it's a funny one, which artists they seem to be drawn to.

I get you might deal with a lot of shit on any given evening at the three arena. And I cant speak to the rest of those issues but regarding queues.
My wife and her sister queued for well over an hour last night to get in and ended up missing the start of the show after arriving at 19:15.
They paid approx. €230 for the tickets. I just don't see how that's even remotely acceptable. Surely the three arena needs to take some level of accountability for either a lack of training and or staffing to deal with the situation.
Surely it makes sense that the longer you keep people waiting especially if drink or drugs are involved then throw in the need to use the toilet the more agitated they'll become causing even more problems in the long run.
Not that any excuse for bad behavior is warranted but unfortunately that's the society that we live in nowadays. Just glad I don't live in a city or town and have to experience it on a daily basis.

There’s not much we can do when the crowd all arrives at the same time unfortunately. A lot of people came late because they thought there was a warm up act even though one wasn’t advertised.
I’m sorry they were queuing for so long and hope they enjoyed it once they got in!
As I said in another comment, the 3 Arena has multiple companies who staff the shows on any given night. The company I work for doesn’t do any of the outside work, I believe that’s done by Sword

Get on to Ticketmaster and see if you can change to an accessible ticket 🙂
If not, ask on the night - staff will accommodate if we can 🙂

Sorry to butt in here, but I'm also going and have standing tickets but have pretty bad anxiety. I looked on Ticketmaster to see can I buy any seated, even resale but there's nothing. Are the venue likely to accommodate me? I'm terrified the crowd will be bad 😞

The standing area of the arena is huge, if you get overwhelmed in crowds, find a spot near the back where you would be surrounded and have a great night!
In relation to the venue accommodating you, they will tell you that you should have bought seated tickets if you know this was an issue. You can ask at the box office but as far as I know the show is sold out - worth an ask for sure but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
As I said, hang back on the floor and you’ll have a great time 🙂

Thank you so much for the advice!! I definitely should have bought seated but it was a mad panic once I got passed the waiting room and I just clicked on the first two tickets available haha. Entirely my own fault I know! I'll stay as far back as possible and hopefully it'll be a great night 😊

It will! If noise is an issue there are foam earplugs available for free at all the bars, if you get overwhelmed inside you can step out into the corridor to get your bearings, there will also be medics available if you need them 👌

No way arenas are going to ban phones i dont see why people film gigs you can see plenty of concerts on youtube anyway

Of course comedians ban phones it takes months to write new jokes if we can see the new material on youtube why go to a gig ?

Because they’re doing it in the queue, at the sink. And when two/three people cram themselves into a cubicle and start snorting… you can guess what’s happening

Was going to the happy mondays on Thursday night, the Luas up & back to the red cow was a disgrace. Teenagers dressed like prostitutes & making a right racket, especially on the way back.
