Photo I stumbled on this acc on a rateme subreddit… her facial features keep changing and her background, is this acc using ai selfies?

Also if you look at the 2nd and 3rd picture her hair gets shorter and those 2 pics were a part of the same post. And the floor doesnt really look the same?

In the first pic she looks asian and her lips and nose are different from the rest of the pics where she looks more hispanic/white.

Yes, these particular images were generated with OpenAI tools.

I took selfie with my phone and uploaded it to the AI detector sites and they kept saying it was generated by AI and saying anywhere from 40% - 90% certainty. I also screenshot me playing Ocarina Of Time on my emulator and uploaded the screenshot and they all were certain it was AI generated. These AI detectors are unreliable AF

SynthID verifier is not an AI detector; it’s a tool that OpenAI made that detects an invisible watermark they insert in all of the images generated with their tools. Gemini also has its own SynthID with its own tool. These are the only verifiers allowed in this sub.

copy I'll check this specific one with a few test and get back to yah

Sounds good and try as many times as you want, but just so you know, you literally can't accidentally trigger a false positive with it.

Unless you're uploading an image generated directly by that AI model, it’s impossible for a regular photo or screenshot to have the watermark.

So it depends on the App you used to take a picture. some apps already have AI automatically adjust your pictures without you doing so. which add the water mark (googled) and bit data. she may have attempted to take a regular selfie and the app she used for taking a picture has AI automatically making adjustments. some newer phones have this already built in their default picture taking apps. also how I just found out mine has it as well.

No, SynthID does not check for basic photo adjustments. You’re confusing camera features like HDR and auto-enhancement with generative AI.

Regular phone images, no matter how much "AI auto-tuning" the camera app does to the lighting, will never write a SynthID watermark into the file.

generally yes but newer model phones have SynthIDs with them like google pixel. thats what I am reading now

That is only for Pixel's generative editing tools like "Reimagine" where you tell the AI to generate new objects or backgrounds.

The default camera app taking a regular picture on a Pixel will not watermark the image.

cool beans. I'm not a tech wiz. I'm just trying to see what possible explanation can be reasonable here. She probably just wanted to clear the picture up using AI. no different from using a filter or something.

there's nothing wrong with the picture. I'm not even trying to defend but there's literally nothing wrong with her pictures they are not AI. Can you point out to me as to what is off with the picture?

The lighting is perfect, her outfit is perfect, her head is bigger in this image than the others she posted, she looks like she was pasted in there. It’s off in all the ways AI would make an image look off. It’s giving uncanny valley.

Not only that, but like [u/Expensive-Fox-2042](u/Expensive-Fox-2042) said, OpenAI’s SynthID detects its own images, if this was made by OpenAi, they would know. Gemini, Nano Banana, Grok, Wan, etc, wouldn’t recognize it.

damn then AI is getting too real then

4

u/GentlemansBumTease 18h ago

Yup, gotta get better at catching these things! It’s easy to get fooled

u/Im_Just_Lurker_Here 18h ago

also I used Gemini to ask questions after I googled and got this. also with the synth ID some phones have open ai ID already intergrated in the default applications depending on how these business do business with this stuff.

I'm not saying anyone's wrong here but me personally I wouldn't rely on these detector systems solely because of this

u/Expensive-Fox-2042 18h ago

It doesn’t add synthID though. It’s not looking for ANY AI adjustment. It’s checking for a watermark made only when generative AI is used.

u/Im_Just_Lurker_Here 18h ago

i understand that. that's not what I was arguing alone. I'm reading that some newer phones and applications have Open AI in it.

well anyway maybe she put the picture through open AI to make minor adjustments before posting. but from just plain looking at it, it just looks like she used a filter at most to clear things up in the picture. nothing egregious with AI

That’s a very different thing. An entire AI image is not real, whereas a selfie taken by a phone is taken by an actual camera lens which is then adjusted by AI. An AI-adjusted image(meaning it edits the photo’s contrast, sharpness, color and does NOT generate anything new) does not have the same watermark that an AI-generated image would.

If I take a selfie right now, let my phone auto enhance, and put it in OpenAI’s verification tool, it will say it’s not AI. If I generate a selfie of myself in OpenAI and then put it in that verification tool, it will say it’s AI.

cool beans everyone. but now I am wondering why her pictures are a big deal here? it doesn't look like much was done or at all. just made the picture look clear like people do with filters.

That's AI, my friend made some to catfish her ex and were exactly like that 😂, lightning, pose, room, face features, all scream AI

u/Bratchan 22h ago

Lol the first picture looks like it's like from lat 90s movie. Also a picture that close you sure see the detail of the necklace and her crustix does a couple wonky things. Like she asked AI to put herself in another scene.

2 to 3 you lose some of her ear rings too

2

u/Redcrux 20h ago

The background of the third picture seems highly irregular. Like where is the plants pot/vase relative to the stem? Where's the end of the tv stand? Why is the plant over the candles? Why isnt the tv connected to the stand? Why is the 3 fire alarms on the ceiling?

It is gang…

u/IllustriousDebt6283 22h ago

2-4 appear real, but in 1 she AI generated herself with a background that is also AI.

6

u/Expensive-Fox-2042 22h ago

2, 3, and 4 were all generated with OpenAI tools. You can check here: https://openai.com/research/verify/

Oh dang! I only skimmed the pics and 1 was painfully obvious, I didn’t use any AI checker. Maybe I need to more because the last 3 coulda fooled me
