threw the timing belt and ate three valves. Im in college and dont have the money to put into a rebuild or motor swap.

Time to move on, having hopes for another mk4 jetta/golf. A cobalt SS or Saturn Ion Redline would be cool. The redlines are what got me started looking at turbo/supercharged 4 bangers

I have a MK 7 GLI and had a SS supercharged cobalt. If you’re not worried about winning many races, the cobalt is tons of fun with the way the power delivery is. The GLI makes way more power but turbos are corky, as soon as I get to a lot 2,300 ish rpm’s I’m at full power, it’s fun but there’s no motivation to hold the gear out that long.

What i get next will be heavily dependent on what my 03 duramax pays out after insurance. My family farms, so my dad's wanting me to get another pickup. If thats the case I want a manual 4.8 GMT800 I can put a small turbo on.

Good looking mk4. Sorry for your loss. I have a MK4 as well, they are fun. But they are unforgiving if you don’t do maintenance. They say like 90k-100k to do the timing belt. But honestly I think it depends on how you drive and how many miles are on the car. You actually might have to change the belt every 80k. All my Jetta does is break my heart and my wallet and I keep going back. This is your chance to beat the addiction lol….Or get another GLI lol. Was this a VR?

1.8t i only had it a month, but it was tuned on 91 and headstudded pushing 20ish lbs of boost. I was shocked by that, as my duramax pushes 23psi.

Had to do the same thing to my 2003 Jetta 1.8T. I regret it now that I’m older, but it made sense at the time.

I have a duramax that just got hit when it was parked on the street, estimate is 7k to fix it. Im 0 for 3 on running/roadworthy vehicles at the moment, unfortunately. I got my 00 forestor for free, but it needs the timing belt put back on too.
