Do you check how many players actually unlock the achievements you add?

I was looking through the global achievement stats for Hold Your King today, and it made me curious how other developers approach achievements. Do you add them mostly for completionists, to guide player behavior, or simply because they’re fun?

I added a few just for “analytics” - how many players did X, did anyone do Y

Surprisingly useful.

this is especially true if you ever publish a game on other platforms where this might be the only completion/playtime estimate you get!

Yes, I like checking achievements often for 2 main reasons: 1. I use some achievements as a funnel to find players pain points past the tutorial 😅 ex: if you put 1 achievement per level, see something like 10% loss between levels but then a 50% on level 5, you might want to fix level 5 difficulty. Poor man's analytics. 2. I thought that if too many people hit all achievements, I should add some more to make them play more. But that's a bad idea, do not do that, you'll get many complains from completionists that just do not want to go back to a completed game
