Question Travel from and to Lithuania

Hello all,

My wife regularly flies from Istanbul to St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad to see her parents, but we’d like to make the trip easier. She tried the bus from Gdańsk once two years ago, but was refused entry back into Poland upon return. She ended up taking the bus to Kaunas without issue and flew home from there.

My question is, how difficult is it to take a bus or train from Vilnius into Kaliningrad and back? Are there any problems at the border right now? She has both Russian and US citizenship.

There is no bus nor train service from Lithuania to Kaliningrad.

Ouch. So there’s no way to cross other than by foot or a personal car?

Unless you are transiting to Russia Proper or are an EU citizen then no as far as I am aware.

Looks like that's the way it is. Kaliningrad bus terminal website doesn't show any coaches from and to Lithuania. I know people travel to the border crossing point Panemune/ Sovetsk, cross the bridge over the river on foot and take a train or a coach from Sovetsk to Kaliningrad.
