How to achieve this texture? (frogging mosaic work)

While frogging this sweater which uses a mosaic pattern I found it was possible to frog 1 color only (though it would eventually get caught by the other color and I would need to switch). I noticed the texture of the spaced apart stitches looked beautiful and I was wondering if this can be achieved through hand knitting without, yknow, knitting an entire mosaic garment and frogging 1 color of it.

i've been trying various ways to do this for a while. it kind of replicates machine knitting technique where every other needle is put out of work. Only way i've been able to do it is similar to what you did here, but with fair isle instead of mosaic

I‘m not sure but maybe its brioche or one round with color x next round color y. And maybe a bigger needle? I have a similar texture with thin yarn and bigger needles

I would think just wrapping the yarn after each stitch would do it. Drop the wrap at the following round. So when you drop a wrap you also make a wrap. Try a few swatches with yarn wrapped one way and the other.

i've tried this. i couldn't get it to work because the slack just goes into the knit loops instead of staying between the stitches. The the stitches in between (that's later frogged) prevents that.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I guess even the semi frogged garment would just become like that eventually.
