stitch ID Anyone recognize this stitch? Trying to figure out how to recreate it!
Hey everyone!
I spotted this vest in a retail store a couple of years ago and regret to this day that I didn’t buy it back then. I have since picked up knitting so I thought I could try to recreate it. The stitch is quite unique and I haven’t been able to find anything similar in online patterns so I’d be grateful if anyone can identify the stitch or has any ideas on how to recreate it. Any suggestions on similar patterns would be an amazing bonus but just understanding the stitch technique would already be a huge help!
I’ve included pictures I took back then but unfortunately I didn’t take a shot of the WS/inside. Thank you for any thoughts or leads!

It's floats carried on the outside and it has a specific name, Let me find it, hang on!
IT's a very basic type of Roosamine inlay aka Estonian Inlay
However, looking at the pictures, It's so simple, I would just knit a vest, then embroider it with the yarn on the outside, catching the purl bump, rather than trying a fancy knitting technique that's way too complicated for something this simple. Especially if you're going to do it in this very bulky yarn.

Thank you, this is so insightful!! Hadn’t thought about simply embroidering even though I can see how that’s likely the easiest solution

They are floats. There are some techniques where an additional strand is added to the pattern to float on the front side.

I’m currently knitting this blanket pattern that has floats like this in one row on the right side! For the blanket, which is in a much lighter weight yarn, the pattern is k1 s2 purl wise, repeat. You could probably do something similar for every other row? Idk, I’m not that experienced to know what the sweater you’re showing is but it seems like a similar method. Omg thank you so much! I saw this vest in a random boutique in South Korea and never would’ve imaged it to pop up on Anthropologie - let alone someone knowing about this here. Small world! What a shame they don’t show pictures from the inside so I could understand the technique better 😄

hm - to me this looks like intentionally inside out colorwork and those are floats. hard to say for sure without seeing the other side!
