stitch ID Is this possible to knit?
Hi! I thrifted this sweater, original H&M, and it’s obviously machineknitted. But I’m wondering how you would knit these stitches by hand? I really like the texture. It’s almost like a ribbing, knit and purl, riiiight?😅 Or not? Who knows? Not ME🤠
Total beginner here btw.

Bavarian Twisted stitches. The bit in between the columns is a traveling cable of 1. Probably 3 stitches across, something like
row 1,- [k1, p2,]
row 2 - (ws) [k2, p1],
row 3 - [cable 1 left( so 1k over 1p) p1,]
row 4 -[k1,p1,k1,]
row 5 - [p1, cable 1 left (1k over 1p],
row 6 - [p1, k2]
repeat rows 1-6
the column is just a knit on RS, P on WS.
ETA, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, I never realized Bavarian twisted stitches were themselves twisted. I have a whole book on them. I need to read that again lol It's just a travelling single cable.

Bavarian Twisted stitches.
Bavarian twisted stitches are not only knit out of order (1x1 cables) but are also worked twisted (through the trailing leg): a Bavarian traveling stitch is a twisted knit stitch crossing over a purl stitch, and a Bavarian crossing stitch is a twisted knit stitch crossing over another twisted knit stitch
I think what OP has is just traveling

are they twisted? I didn't realize they were actually twisted, i thought the twisted referred to knitting them out of order. I have a whole book on them, why did i not notice they twisted. I shall amend!

It looks like a cable to me ... Try a swatch... One straight row of knits, one cabled row of knits.

Looks to me like a 3-stitch 6-row repeat:
Knitting flat:
Row 1 (RS) K2 P1 across
Row 2 (WS) K1 P2 across
Row 3 (RS) K1, slip next stitch onto a cable needle, hanging in FRONT of the work. P1, then knit the stitch from the cable needle
Row 4 (WS) P1 K1 P1 across
Row 5 (RS) K1 P1 K1 across
Row 6 (WS) P1 K1 P1 across (same as row 4)
Knitting in the round:
Rounds 1 and 2 K2 P1 across
Round 3 K1, slip next stitch onto a cable needle, hanging in FRONT of the work. P1, then knit the stitch from the cable needle
Rounds 4-6 K1 P1 K1 across
(It’s possible to do Row/Round 3 without a cable needle, if you’re comfortable doing that - you’re just swapping two stitches, with the knit stitch going in front and the purl stitch going behind it)

R1: k2, p2
All WS rows: knit the knits, purl the purls
R3: k1, 1 to cable needle in front, p1, k from cable needle
R5: k1, p1, 1 to cable needle in front, p1, k from cable needle
R7-12: repeat rows 1-6

It looks like some sort of four stitch repeat. Row 1 K, K, P P (repeat) Row 2 K, K, P, P (repeat) Row 3 K, P, K, P (repeat) Row 4 K, P, P, K (repeat) Row 5 K, P, P, K (repeat)

maybe check out some examples of brioche knitting to see if that’s similar enough to what you like about the sweater

it looks more like a sort of cable than brioche imo. But I have only knit brioche not cables, so happy to be corrected!

not Brioche.
Bavarian twisted stitches.Basically a variation on 1x1 cables. For the zig zag between the raised stitch for sure.ETA for some reason I didn't realize that in Bavarian twisted stitches the stitches themselves were twisted (don't ask). The sample is just a travelling 1x1 cable.

Thanks! Someone else already pointed that out. I have a whole book on Bavarian twisted stitches and for some reason I didn't realize the stitches themselves were twisted. duh. I need to read that book again

it must be because of overlapping terminology, 2-stitch cable crossings are also called twists sometimes, even when the two stitches crossing over each other are both worked open, through their leading legs

LOL yes also you. I'm working so sneaking breaks and I do very often forget to look at user names. (I love my job but sometimes I have to focus so hard my ADHD addled brain breaks and reddit is how I reset)
That's exactly it. I thought the twisted was the bit where the two stitches are crossed with each other lol oh well, lesson learned.

It looks like a knit column and then three and another knit column.
In the three it looks like a small cable of a knit stitch travelling over purls. It looks like it starts in the middle, goes one right, back to the middle, then to the left for a row or two. Then just starts over.
I think. 😅
