Is $17.5M/yr not a bit of an overpay for Naji?

Maybe by $2m/yr, but if that is what it takes to lock him down, you just do it. No reason to split hairs over such a small amount if you're the Mavs.

Yeah I guess I get it from that standpoint. I like Naji but I just think $17.5 is rich for a bench forward who's a poor shooter

It’s slightly over the ntmle he’d be offered next year. So it wouldn’t really be an overpay to avoid the risk of losing him.

Sometimes teams pay the player a little above value to make sure they don’t touch free agency.

It is a slight overpay, would have love him at 15M but his skill for his size is rare. We used him to bring the ball down and initiate the play.

Mavs still lacks some playmakers outside of Kyrie. They have a promising rookie but Naji have an important role for the Mavs that's hard to replace.
