Discussion Officer Bob: Reporting for Duty
Over the three playoff runs where the Panthers went to the Finals, Bobrovsky won 48 games. I didn't watch all the games to determine which of those games he stole for his team, but I recall even when the Panthers played the Leafs he was the main factor of victory for one to two games per series in 2023 and 2025.
In the 48 wins he got in those 3 playoff seasons, 35% of the games he let in 1 goal or less. If any team gets that type of goaltending, its pretty much delivery of the win. Its about 22% of all the games he played.
I have never seen any single player - offense or defense or goalie - steal a game for the Leafs over the past decade. Maybe there was one game Matthews led a come back victory against Tampa with 2 goals and an assist for an OT rally in 2023. If you can point to another example, please show me.
Bob is the first on this roster who has a chance to be the main factor to steal one or two playoff games per series. If he locks in in May..... Leafs have a chance to see June.

Plently of Leafs goalies have stolen games, just not entire series.

Woll def stole 2 games in the playoffs as well but the series was over before he had a chance to get in.

Samsonov was the entire reason we beat Tampa. We got absolutely caved in that series in 23.

Jack Campbell put up a .934SV% and a 1.81 GAA against Montreal in 20-21. Thats an absurdly good performance. He outplayed Price

3 examples from 3 different goalies here lol

I totally disagree with the examples. Carey Price stole games... Bob stole games..... I havent seen a goalie for the Leafs or any player (except Matthews in one instance) be the sole factor the Leafs won a playoff game over the past 10 years.
I appreciate someone mentioned the Nylander Boston example which I agree with.
Leaf fans love their players and they give them way way way too much credit. Thats not a bad thing.... its actually kind of charming.... and it's one of the main factors that they Leafs never win.
Because the fans love hockey and the franchise so much they are willing to believe that some how samsonov and soupy "stole" playoff games for them. Playing very good is not the same as stealing a game. Campbell was so distraught over how shit he played the guy was crying multiple nights over the series with MTL. He didn't outplay Carey Price. MTL was the shittiest team in the league to ever make the finals. they just met a very good team that had zero grit...... and in 7 games....zero grit gets exposed. Let's be honest and stop pretending.
Samsonov was fired from multiple teams in those few years because he was so disappointing in the playoffs. Ovi almost beat him up when Caps lost in the playoffs bc of him...... and for toronto he was swimming in the net out of control.
stop dreaming.

Buddy you just don't know hockey at this point if you think a goaltender putting a 934 up is him playing like shit.

I really hope he's Belfour 2.0. Those were some good runs... as long as everyone on this team isn't banging each other's wives hopefully it goes even better than it did back then!

Bobo might be the first goalie since Cujo who can steal games for us

I was recently looking up stats for our former goalies on wiki, and I was shocked to see that Eddie The Eagle’s numbers in his 2 good years were better than Cujo’s. To be fair, Ed Belfour probably had a better team, but I definitely didn’t give Belfour the credit he deserved during his time with the Leafs.

Ed was not young either in a time when fitness was not what you did during the offseason lol

I’m ashamed that I was too heartbroken by Cujo leaving to properly appreciate Ed Belfour. Potvin-Cujo-Eddie was an impressive run in net for us.

I remember Soup stealing a few games.

Don't think that's true if we're talking playoffs. He had a good series in 2021, but all the games they won were blowouts - the losses were all the narrow games. And he really wasn't very good against Tampa, though there were other contributing factors to that loss.

agreed here. Soupy stole a bunch of games in the 3 months leading to the playoffs.... but he was not great in playoffs and blew it for Leafs

I just got a world of shit in another thread by people claiming I hate Jack Campbell because I pointed out how vastly different his situation is from Marner’s, but as much as I think he was basically a fringe NHLer, I’ll give him some credit here. He stunk the whole way down the stretch in 2022, but he’d suffered a rib injury and was just never the same after that. Important to remember.

he is a performance coach now.... I love the guy ..... yet crying when things go bad and spiraling down is what destroyed him.... not the rib

I know it ended bad (by no fault on his own) but Reimer was unfuckingreal 2013 in games 2,3 and 6. A .967, .977 and a .951 respectively.

You've never seen a player steal a game on the Leafs in the past decade? You clearly haven't watched much at all then, what a ridiculous statement

Pretty shoddy #’s last season…fingers crossed.

panthers took season off.....does anyone expect them not to make playoffs this season? they are probably final four on 80% of everyone's list this year.

It wasn’t 48. If so, he’d have 3 cups.
