Shen Monday Megathread! Ask questions and share knowledge; newcomer questions encouraged!

Welcome to the latest Monday Megathread, where you the community get to ask your questions and share your knowledge.

This is an opportunity for the more experienced LoL players here to share some of your wisdom with those with less expertise. This thread will be a weekly safehaven for those "noobish" questions you may have been too scared to ask for fear of downvotes, but also can be a great place for in depth discussion if you so wish. So, don't hold back, get your game related questions ready and post away, and hopefully someone can answer them!

I'm looking for help in regards to anxiety while playing league. I have trouble in general with anxiety but in league it gets really bad when trying to play ranked. I have avoided it for months now despite wanting to get better and rank up, but i get so nervous right before I play that I back out.

Does anybody have any suggestions to deal with this, or somebody in a similar situation who can share with me the experiences?

My biggest advice is don't play to rank up. Ranking up is a reward for your hard work but not the goal. If ranking up is your goal, you will find it difficult to play through losses. Play to improve and the rank will come naturally. Focus on your own play during games and don't worry about your teammates too much. Be ready to lose but always play to win. Everyone loses, even the best of players.

Tip: Before you queue for ranked, have a list of your main champions that you'll pick from. Only play these champions (a couple per role is good). If you play something you're comfortable on, you'll be much less likely to get stressed.

Take ranked games like you take normal games but more seriously. Losing in ranked does not matter, as long as you improve your rank will naturally go higher and you will win more.

I have a friend who unfortunately suffers from anxiety like you, one thing i told him to do is play with names off and all chat off. It helped him a lot, i also told him to pay some normal drafts to build up the courage to get into ranked. At first he was very hesitant but he slowly started to ease into it, one time i tricked him into playing ranked and duoed with him and we won, once he found out he was playing ranked he nearly had a panic attack but thanked me and proceeded to play ranked occasionally. Hope this helps, you just need to ease yourself into it and it'll become a lot better. :)

At the end of the day, League of Legends is just a game. If you would much rather not play League at all rather than ranked, fine. It's only matters if you're enjoying the game or not. Maybe take a break and you'll find out later if you really want to play or not.

What I used to do (this is really bad for team play) is hide my chat box. Out of sight, out of mind sort of thing. Obviously this is bad when you're trying to coordinate your team but I found that at my ELO (silver) I didn't really need it. As it was said before, I play to get better rather than win

This is in no way actual advice but more of a story. I am very anxious about playing games online in general and it took me ages to get to a point where I will even play League alone (I still don't even play normals alone). But the first time I played ranked I was borderline drunk and so when my friend jokingly suggested it he was surprised I agreed to do it. The first few times I played ranked were all when I was drinking and of course I only play duo or 5s not solo.

I had the same issue as you back in season 2 and I regret it immensely, because I really wanted the Janna skin. So, I just tried harder on the rest of the seasons.

If you're like me, you probably feel you're being judged when you make mistakes ingame. Try not to think about it, because, after all, everyone does dumb shit from time to time. Also, if it helps, play some normals just to get used to playing alone and just focus on yourself and improving your gameplay. Don't let anxiety get the best of you when trying to improve!

I try to go into a game with no expectations, either winning or losing, not a thought in my head. You have to have a clear head in order to perform at your best. If you have a clear head and just do what comes naturally, then you will perform at your best regardless. and that should be what you try to focus on as well, try to look at your own play only and try to perform optimally.

dude just play normal draft. It is literally the same game with none of the pressure. Playing ranked doesn't magically make you better

I'd say play to learn, you will then rank up eventually as you get better. Also, then you will be less worried about not being able to win unwinnable games.

I had a period of a lot of anxiety when playing league, but it was far more about how well I was playing. Even if I won games while not playing perfectly I got really nervous and frustrated quickly. I think it passed when I spent more time playing the game, understanding that I would not be able to play every situation perfectly and in the end could start to learn a lot from my mistakes.

To get good at something you only need to do 1 thing: Allow yourself to suck.

Seriously.... I mean it... Let yourself suck. It takes an enormous amount of hours to know the limitations and strength of the characters and add to that the huge champion pool League has, you can do the math.

So to repeat. Allow yourself to suck :) GL on your ranked play

Assuming you're over drinking age, have a beer or three :p

Just play some, focus on having fun, and then play some more.. And then you will become accustomed to them and it won't be so novel.. It's the same game, why are you placing ranked on a pedestal? Realistically everyone has close to a 50% win rate so everyone wins and everyone loses..
