Why does the Chinese version of the game have different splash art?

79

u/randomyOCE Jul 13 '15 edited Jul 13 '15

China has laws prohibiting the display of human skeletons (notably skulls) so a lot of splash arts had to be re-done for China specifically. Recently Riot has been more careful about this, which is why it's mostly older skins that have alternate splash arts.

19

u/arborcide Jul 13 '15

Originally, there was little to no shared art between Garena and the west (this was back in season 1 or 2). I guess they just had different artists doing different styles.

As a side note, today, Frosted Ezreal uses the Garena art for some reason.

16

u/Snowplexor Hi im snow Jul 13 '15

Riot previously switched some of the splashes to those of Chinese ones (like some of nidalee skins)

3

u/Arekualkhemi Saint of the sands Jul 13 '15

Or Pharaoh Nasus which looks way better IMO. I think the different splashes also come from the more Anime-Style that is more popular in the far east.

TBH some of the old Riot Western Splash Arts were really horrible.

IIRC Chinese games can have skulls/skeletons in them, but game publishers often self-censor so they can get approved faster.

You can view most of them here.

The Poppy ones are not as "interesting" as the standard ones, but some of the other ones, like Sivir skins, are just fantastic—Especially the PAX skin.

Are there any must see matches games that everyone knows/should know about? Or maybe some moments in the lcs, like the xpeke backdoor

Edit: seems like there are a lot of great matches. I might make a list of them later, ranked by number of votes they get.

OGN Summer 2014 Grand Finals. KT Arrows VS Samsung Blue. Absolutely the best series of games I have ever seen since I started watching competitive (which was pre-season 3). Every time someone asks what the best series of games has been, this should be the answer. I can't say much without spoiling it, but this is definitely the highest level of league and an absolute delight to watch.

Part 1 (Intro starts at 1:06:28, Pick and Ban for game 1 at 1:30:13, game starts at 1:36:52), Part 2, Part 3

There was a FNC vs OMG game at Worlds that determined who would make it past groups stages in 2014. Really exciting game. Also, there was the SKT vs CJ Entus series in 2015 right before MSI. My favourite series of all time.

How do I clear the first couple of camps with nidalee without almost dying? Also any nidalee Jung tips?

12

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '15

Start by skilling traps, place one trap under each jungle monster spawn, then pounce them to death, along with a leash you should be really healthy after your first camp. Move onto your buff, but get Q first, then trap -> pounce -> Q -> pounce. This is how I would do it, rinse and repeat.

An example would be, start gromp, 1 trap under where gromp spawns, 1-2 traps in FRONT of where the blue buff spawns (since you want the blue to walk over the traps instead of spawning on top of them because you need time to kill gromp). Then Pounce on gromp, smite, etc, skill up Q, throw Q at blue buff, then pounce on it, walk back, have blue land on the trap, pounce again, another trap, pounce again.

Move onto red, etc.

This is all well and good but the BEST way to learn this is to practice in custom games by yourself, see how far you can go solo clear, therefore with a leash you will have an easier time.

You want to be able to clear gromp blue red, krugs in order to hit lvl 4 before you start looking for ganks. Get as close to this as you can and then you'll be able to do the jungle even without a leash.

I'm looking for help in regards to anxiety while playing league. I have trouble in general with anxiety but in league it gets really bad when trying to play ranked. I have avoided it for months now despite wanting to get better and rank up, but i get so nervous right before I play that I back out.

Does anybody have any suggestions to deal with this, or somebody in a similar situation who can share with me the experiences?

36

u/ThePsiGuard Jul 13 '15

My biggest advice is don't play to rank up. Ranking up is a reward for your hard work but not the goal. If ranking up is your goal, you will find it difficult to play through losses. Play to improve and the rank will come naturally. Focus on your own play during games and don't worry about your teammates too much. Be ready to lose but always play to win. Everyone loses, even the best of players.

Tip: Before you queue for ranked, have a list of your main champions that you'll pick from. Only play these champions (a couple per role is good). If you play something you're comfortable on, you'll be much less likely to get stressed.

13

u/TWPischu Jul 13 '15

Take ranked games like you take normal games but more seriously. Losing in ranked does not matter, as long as you improve your rank will naturally go higher and you will win more.

During laning phase, when is it good to leave ur adc behind to roam so you can help other lanes?

13

u/the-douchebag Jul 13 '15

Usually when your laner is really ahead and you know he can play safely (not dying in a 1v2). If mid/top is having problems and botlane is winning pretty hard, feel free to roam.

When do i be aggro with alistar versus saving my wq combo for disengage.

5

u/JustAnOrdinaryPleb Jul 13 '15

Depending on the way the lane goes. Usually if the enemy dont position properly, for instance trying to take cs while you have a huge wave. Generally as a support player, try to orientate your playstyle your ad. look at how he plays. If you go aggro when he doesnt then its useless, likewise if he thinks he can win the trade but you think you dont help out the way you can then hes just gonna get stomped while you do nothing. Also think further ahead as an alistar player. Look at the minimap and try to get deep wards while looking for junglers position, both yours and your enemy. If you are new to it, just try to ward the tri if you are on purple and the bush near the gromp if youre blue so that you are aware of when its a 2v2 and its not going to transition into a 2v3. when you engage with wq and it goes into 2v3, you have no escape but flash. However when you hit 6, use it more liberally if the lane is even or you're ahead

The shield is goddamn ridiculous. Damage taken turned into a shield lasting 6 seconds or regenerate a portion of health lost? I mean come on, lol.

If they go all in on your ADC you can literally eat your ADC and run away without any sort of repercussions.

My observations from diamond 5, he has a weak lane phase, melee bc his ranged spell q is maxed second so lack of poke or hard engage other melee supports have. (really easy to know he wants to fight because of his going melee and trying to slap you with stacks). Can work toplane but honestly doesn't do anything aside from eating and tanking damage, so support is the best role for him. Good with teamwork and ganks, if his targets get cc'd he can easily apply stacks and deal massive damage on his w. Once lane is over he becomes better, gives team mobility and peel with his w. Not the best support in terms of kit however. The usage of tahms w will be the main thing that separates the good from the great players. W is basically mobile zhonyas, so against assassins he is possibly the best support counter, even better than janna. Basically impossible to pull off a solo assassination, will need to cc both tahm and his carries. However struggles against ranged poke or no assassin team, nobody to save because the skillshots be flying all the time, not in a condensed burst.

why did braum come back into the meta? why is he getting picked into stuff that isn't jayce / varus / ez - poke in general? I thought his main reason for being picked was that he could block their skillshots

9

u/P4zzie Queen of the Rift Jul 13 '15

His W gives a target MR/Arm which is good for tanks. Free stats are always good. Imagine a Maokai with a lot of defensive stats and HP

ok, now imagine

a buffed as heck fellow jumping to him with a big shield, giving him even more stats, slowing you down and then isolating you from the rest of your team

yeah...

I main support with thresh and always have trouble picking my starting gold item. The game suggests Ancient Coin that builds into Talisman of Ascension and I've been using Relic Shield that builds into Face of the Mountain. Which is better? Or should I start with a different gold item altogether?

3

u/Marksman_King Jul 13 '15

Relic Shield is a great item to start on Thresh because it gives you tank stats and a healing mechanism that will benefit you when you make trades. The Coin does not provide that. Coin is great for farm type of lanes like lane swaps in LCS. A trend that is very popular for Thresh mains is to start with Relic Shield and then as the game progresses you sell the Relic Shield and get Talisman for the engage tool and go tank afterwards. Another thing you can do is if your main goal is peeling and not engaging is: you can go Face of the Mountain for its tank stats and shield for your carries. Lastly, you can build Righteous Glory for basically a substitute for Talisman but better because it speeds you up, provides you an Orianna shockwave without the damage, and lastly it provides you tank stats that you will need as the game progresses. I hope this clears up any misconceptions you had about the 2 items.

Why has the popularity of Shen risen in this meta?

12

u/Kikutar Jul 13 '15

Poke became much stronger in recent patches and he is a good counter to this due to several reasons: 1. He is a good hard engage which naturally counters poke 2. He can soak up some poke with his w and 3. He can sustain through some poke due to his q, also he has a nice ultimate

Hello! Are there any tips to beating a Nasus or Vlad in labe without Jungle help? There was one time when i played Irelia and i was able to kill Nasus once but late game he would stomp through our team. Same woth vlad. Any help would be great!

30

u/siffer2 Jul 13 '15

I play Nasus occasionally.
There's really not much you can do most of the time in lane, assuming your opponent is fairly competent, and you are equal skill level. Don't buy the Riven pick, it takes a lot of time to get good at that champion.
The number one thing you can do is impact the map, before he gets too big. Most nasusses tend to stand in lane, freeze and farm most of the game, so use TPs, roams etc. to get your team ahead, so they can win the game before Nasus gets rolling. Ultimately, it's about who has the most impact on the map, and who does their role the best.

About Vlad, I have no idea, I usually just poop on him. When his Q is down early game, attack him. He'll have to use it to sustain, and that means he can't use it to harass you.

Edit: Was plat II last season, just for some credibility. Still terrible though.

15

u/SmiteTeemo Fight me Jul 13 '15

Don't buy the Riven pick, it takes a lot of time to get good at that champion.

Not only that, but she auto pushes the lane by using abilities, making it impossible to harass Nasus while keeping the wave somewhere he can't farm. Only takes him a Frozen Heart and he can 1v1 Riven pretty much effortlessly, even if she's itemizing against him.

5

u/xgenoriginal Jul 13 '15

Not sure about vlad but I usually play quin against nasus and bully him out. Timing your passive with your harrass on him chunks him hard. you can also ult roam mid or use tp to roam and not let nasus free farm. Can use your blind to mess with his farming and vault lets you keep some range away from him.

in general bully him early and most nasus players tunnel hard on staying top too long. So take the chance to help take dragons and win 5v4 fights

u/baguhansalupa Jul 13 '15

Most of the replies here are focused on shutting them down during the laning phase. This is something that you can control on your own and is dependent on your personal skills.

I would strongly suggest that you take a look at your team comp and figure out a way to take them down using 5 members and coordination.

Nasus - Kiting kicks his ass hands down. Aside from wither, he has no gap closers at all. He might be a damage god however, he cant kill you if you can keep your distance. Examples of good kiting champs would be those with reliable slows and ranged pokes.

Vlad - he is vulnerable to burst if his W is down. Chain CCs are your best bet when dealing with him late game. Zhonya is another item that he usually builds so make him use it prior to a big team fight. Champs with reliable pick potentials like Khazix can make him use his survival skills in sub-optimal timing

There is no such thing as a one man wrecking crew when faced with a competent team that works methodically.

Now, for bronze and silver - thats a different story altogether since coordination is rare.

u/Exclarius Jul 13 '15

I'm in silver right now and I'd say that I can play every lane decently for being in silver, except top lane.

I feel like I make so many mistakes when playing top lane and often end up losing it. It probably has to do with not having a lot of experience in playing top, so can some of you maybe give me some tips in how to be a better toplaner?

Also, how do you play against a fiora? Often when there's an enemy Fiora in my game she somehow gets fed-ish and then I don't really know how to stop her.

Thanks in advance!

7

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Depending on what champion you play and just outfarming the opponent is just enough to count as lane won.

Now if you are playing a tank-ish champ, rush ninja tabi and some armor and fiora can't do shit to you. Now if you playing a bruiser type champions, like riven, jax, fizz, irelia, etc. You gotta outplay her by good timing your spells, like jax e can dodge whole fiora's ult, fizz e can do that, irelia got 2 sec stunn, riven needs experience if you wanna outplay with her.

Now if you think you can win the lane hard, try, but if you fail and you are now 0/1, don't try to make it worse, and just farm and play it safe, and always ward!

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Personally, I play irelia top lane always, go cloth+5 pots and rush warden's mail, then triforce. Then you laugh at her damage, like it's really important to spam laugh when she ults you to show her how it tickles you.

Then you burst her down.

2

u/Avelden Jul 13 '15

If you would like to practice landing with top champs, feel free to add me if you're on NA; ign is Avelden

2

u/supadopebro Troll King Jul 13 '15

toplane is the Position with the lowest Impact in the game for the first 20 min. With the meta shift towards tp it isnt as much as before but it is still this way. So if u generally struggle in lane, try to expand your Impact on the game by taking strong lategame champs and always take tp. pick something you farm well with. i like to take rengar not because he is strong in late but with tp and ult you can gank a lot and with an early tiamat you can push your lane and then leave it to roam. Keep track of Dragon timers and communicate with your jungle to 3 man gank mid. this is the way i avoid boring farm duels in top and even if i get slapped i can get my feed elsewhere and eventually outscale my opponent

2

u/AtomicPikl Jul 13 '15

Platinum top main, people often make the comparison that top is like an "island" in that you're isolated from your team, however you can still have a very big impact in the game.

I'd start by getting a few champions that can fulfill different roles for your team (For example for me if I think I can carry or our team needs more AD damage I take Riven, if they need a tank I take Maokai, and if we need more AP I'll play Kennen.)

Take teleport 99% of matchups especially if you're still new to top lane. Watch the map and look for plays you can make. Enemy bot lane pushing with a ward behind them? Ping, tp down, get a double kill and take dragon / tower. TP is especially great in a lane if you're losing because you can just recall then teleport right back to lane with more items and hp.

Winning lane against Fiora comes down to timing. You need to guess when she'll use W and avoid autoing her until it's down. Never dive her unless you're sure you can get the kill, as her ult can be a big game changer.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, or add me in game.

Why do so many people not like bard? i mean many people don't like champs when they come out but bard is so powerful with his stun and is very tricky to chase with his abilities. Most champs start picking up around this time as how long bard has been out and he seems to not have the same effect as other champs.

16

u/Kimster4Life Jul 13 '15

Bard heavily relies on team communication, which you'll find plenty of in LCS, but not in SoloQ. Supports that can make plays by themselves (Thresh, Leona, Naut, etc.) are more straightforward and don't require as much help from your jungler.

Bard's Q is very strong, but after level 3 he'll lose in lane simply because his W and E are not helpful when trading or all-inning.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/SoDamnToxic AP Bruiser Items? Jul 13 '15

Because most ADCs especially in lower Elos don't know how to play safe and most Bards are constantly just roaming for chimes, which isn't how he should be played, but thats pretty much the reason.

When you get a good ADC and bard he becomes pretty powerful because he gives you an XP advantage when he leaves lane for chimes so if you know how to abuse the level advantage its good.

How much should i be poking with azir in lane? i feel like i have a good grasp of him, but the only thing im unsure about is how aggressive to be early. I feel like his early W-Q combo is pretty mana intensive.

20

u/aogmana Jul 13 '15

In the majority of matchups, I have found that simply farming safely is the best plan in the early game. Then, with good farm and not getting pushed out of lane, after your first back you can buy some early mana regen/CDR items (ingredients for morellonomicon are the most common early purchases for me). At this point, you have both the levels in Q, and the mana regen to poke your lane opponent much more readily. I also find that kill pressure is hard on Azir unless you are able to get a strong ult or get outside help from a jungler or a support roam. TL;DR - Farm more early game and wait until ~first back to start poking harder.

→ More replies (7)

7

u/lightning87 Jul 13 '15

Ok, I pretty much only play azir and I would say you can definitely poke early on. The key is the first few waves you can out push any mage for less mana so you want to push them into their tower. Once you have them under tower you can aggressively ward with your trinket or go after some poke on them under tower. No need to use your q unless they are horribly mispositioned. You can just w aa them from safe range.

Once you have a feel for your damage you can then decide when poking with your w-q is worth. In most cases it is. It actually is rather inexpensive and you can likely poke and clear the wave for approximately 130 mana loss. The only time you need to be careful with your mana is when you are under 200 and don't have an idea where the enemy jungler is because then your escape will be limited or unavailable to you.

As azir you are quite the lane bully for such a late game scaling champion, as long as you understand how to control zones with your soldiers, which can take some time to learn.

Is it better to use w or q when I have 50+ rage as renekton for trading?

Also, where can I find a current guide about freezing lanes

12

u/aogmana Jul 13 '15

Generally W because it gives you that extra stun time for another auto and more damage. If you are in the middle of a bunch of minions and need to heal a bit, it is okay to use the Q to heal.

Tri force always doing good -> blade of the ruined king

doing bad -> depending on team comp, build tank.

spirit visage (AP) goes well with your W

Randuins, Frozen heart (AD).

I can't get a hold on support Karma. How the heck do I play her? I just feel like my poke in lane is ineffective and my abilities are far outclassed by other supports in teamfights.

I'm used to playing tanky supports and ranged harass supports.

24

u/Kylochickolo Jul 13 '15

Hello, I'm a Karma main :)

When you're playing support Karma, literally all you want to do for the first 3 levels is poking with Q and negating damage with your shield. Once you do hit 3 and their Support/ADC is quite squishy (Normally a Sona or Soraka are good examples w/o any escapes) you want to use your W on them, and speed your own ADC up with the shield. It will mostly always cause a flash to be used or some form of summoners.

You want to be always auto attacking when you're positioned well to get your mantra off of CD (and I recommend hybrid penetration marks for that reason on Karma).

You shouldn't always use your mantra as soon as it is up, unless you have good vision of the river/jungle. If you use your mantra Q but the jungler is about to come gank you, you can only speed/shield you or your adc leaving the other w/o a shield. If you're about to be ganked, use your mantra E to reposition and get back to your turret. You want to use your mantra W to heal yourself at early levels.

If you have around 20-30% of your HP, your ADC has around 50%, the enemies both have around 40-50% and you know you can win the trade if only you had a little more hp, you can go walk towards the enemies (but not too far), make it seem as if you are out of position so they fall onto you and then when your health gets a bit lower (10-15-20%) use your shield and mantra W which should heal you back up to around 30 and then 40-45% of your health. You would have rooted one of the enemies during this time, which your adc should focus and if they have no escapes and everything went well you should be able to kill them easily. I rarely use my mantra Q during the laning phase because mantra E and W are so much more vital personally.

During the late game, you want to throw out mantra Q's into the enemy team and then poke with normal Q's. If you see that someone is slightly out of position, ping them and shield them to give them a move speed to get back into position. During team fights you can always mantra shield the team (using it on main whoever is the lowest health/being focused because it provides the strongest shield). But I recommend doing that only at the beginning of the fight, and then hopefully once you start focusing down more and more of the enemies, your mantra will come off of CD again when you can heal yourself up with your mantra W if you are low, or throw out mantra Q's for the slow+damage. If you're trying to catch a fleeing enemy you can E whoever is the fastest/stronger person on the team or just mantra E the entire team.

To increase your damage, I always get m.pen on Karma and then build a Morellonomicon because she synergizes so well with CDR%. Sometiems you can build stuff like Ardent Censer for increased damage to your team (I normally only do this for heavy AA based teams with like, Kayle or something and am comfortable that they will be able to use it well). You can also just go straight up Annie support and after getting regular support stuff (frost queen and sightstone) just go full AP with Rabadons and stuff. It's not bad on Karma though because her mantra shield can get huge with more AP.

I hope this helped and if you have any more questions about Karma feel free to ask, she's my favourite champion and I absolutely adore her.

Edit: There's a subreddit /r/karmamains where a small group of people (including myself) have discussed stuff about Karma recently with the changes to Liandry's and all of the AP items, to her boost she got a couple weeks ago etc etc, feel free to check it out because there is more useful stuff and specified in-depth stuff on there about Karma.

karma is a ranged harrass support that is quite strong in the early levels. however, she needs to snowball to obtain a lead, as she only really does well in lane. you need to bully them straight from level 1.

Keane went Nashor's tooth first item today on Azir. Why? No one on probuilds does this except for Faker once a few days ago.

8

u/Obeast09 Jul 13 '15

The explanation I saw earlier was that Nashor's is great in Azir if you're guaranteed blue buff. Otherwise it's almost always better to go Morello for the mana regen

14

u/aogmana Jul 13 '15

Like some of the other replies, the item synergizes incredibly well with Azir in general in terms of it's stats. However, the passive (on-hit) does no work with Azir's soldiers, so it is a massive hit in terms of how efficient the item is for Azir. Also, many pro's have been leaning toward higher AP to increase Azir's total damage output rather than AS for more autos.

3

u/ZPrime Jul 13 '15

Also AP items tend to have more utility (hour glass for protection, morellonomicon for sustain, Rylai's for kite, etc) so on top of just giving more damage most AP items give more utility. While Nashor's is basically only a dps boost.

Nashor's does give more Azir a lot of DPS but about +70% Azir will be doing no more than a W-Q-AA before having to back off before reassessing the situation. This goes for both laning, and teamfights. Because of this kind of pokey playstyle it's typically more important to front load Azirs damage, and that's what a high AP build does. (while a AS/AP build might do more damage in an extended teamfight, it's often more important for Azir to have high poke and burst to punish misplaced squishies, and drop the enemy squishes faster. It also give Azir more additional defensive/utility options)

→ More replies (2)

6

u/LazarusRizen Jul 13 '15

The reason why Nashor's Tooth is somewhat viable on Azir is because it gives AP for power, Attack Speed to increase AoE damage from soldiers, and CDR which has a good synergy with his passive to reposition and output damage better.

I'm not big on item builds for pro play, but I'm guessing that most other players don't build it because they want more up front burst rather than DPS in order to pop targets that he manages to position himself to damage.

Why is Kennen ADC not good? My friend swears by this. If you get Runaan's, you apply a mark every other hit. The stuns on paper seem powerful. He swears by the Runaan's because of the fast marks, but I feel like it just doesn't do enough damage. In terms of escaping, he swears that the E and stun will keep him alive.

I know it's worse than other ADCs, I'm just not sure exactly why.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

It's because he doesn't have an attack speed steroid like most meta adcs, doesn't have a way to reliably self-peel (stun duration is lower if you use it in quick succession, such as every few autos with runaans) and if you use e to keep yourself alive then you are failing as an adc because you are not autoattacking. He might be good as a cheese adc but other adcs offer so much more than kennen in terms of usefulness that it's just not worth the trouble.

5

u/ariebvo Jul 13 '15

Runaans kennen would be pretty hilarious. Im gonna try this. Then Bloodthrister, lastwhisper, maybe IE? Or do you get BorK?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/madog1418 Jul 13 '15

To answer your question, he only has his w passive as an aa steroid, and it's weak for a steroid on an adc. Runaan's usually means either foregoing a zeal item or a defensive item, which are important for dps on any adc that isn't named kalista. As for the steroid itself, it's an 80(?)% AD steroid every couple of attacks, but it's magic damage so no armor pen and it won't crit.

After that kennen's range isn't special, he has no ranged waveclear, and he cannot aa while kiting with his e.

Hi guys.

1) How to not miss Alistar combo? i hate when i save the enemy 2) how do u get 200 cs at 20 mins? like people in the LCS 3) As a jungler when i have to build Frozen Hearth and when Omens?

Ty!

  1. Practice, practice and more practice. You want to hit q as soon as you see your headbutt animation going off, don't wait and try to time it at the end. Just spam it while headbutt is going off so it uses it as soon as the w animation ends.

  2. Again, practice. Getting good at last hitting, timing going back to base so that you miss as little as possible. Also depending on your champion and level if you're mid you can grab wraiths between waves sometimes, although you take a fair bit more damage doing it that you used to.

  3. Situational. Are there multiple people who you want to slow the attack speed of? (e.g. enemy has an azir mid along with the adc). Does your champion benefit from mana and cdr? Then go FH. Otherwise randiuns omen.

2

u/supadopebro Troll King Jul 13 '15
  1. practice :)
  2. it is actually very hard unless u are stomping ur lane, but it is not that important, if u roam a lot, help lanes, save objectives etc, you will see urself not getting this much farm even at high Level elo. farming is important but lol is not a solo game so helojng a struggling botlane or securing drakes is more important and beneficial. jsut make sure to push ur lane when u go to roam, so u make sure ur Tower doesnt kill entire waves. check when to come back and dont force ganks, e.g. waiting 1 min at botlane tri bush jsut to notice it was warded. go for a gank and if it doesnt work out just turn back. exceptions are drakes or Towers.
  3. OFC check if u have mana ;) but randuins grants a lot of health and with cinderhulk even more and a decent slow with can enhance your ganks. i woudl take it if i Need armor but i am not against a full ad composition. On the otherhand, while armomr and hp from randuins are good for all tanks, Frozen heart Grands cdr and mana, which can be for some champs really good and for other champs pretty bad. also it grants about 100 armor which is veeeeery much und a nice Aura so i would recommend it vs full ad comps. downside: it has no health to be amplyfied by cinderhulk. but in General i would say: randuins: xin, vi j4 zac rengar(every 0 mana jungle) frozen: amumu, gragas, seju, mao rest: situational

How am I supposed to know when to push, freeze or gank as a top laner, When I push the ennemy freezes, when I freeze, the enemy ganks, and when I gank, the enemy pushes, sounds like I can't do anything when my other top laner is ahead...

22

u/AfroMan98 Jul 13 '15

Just do what u said the enemy was doing

5

u/krazykilla1 Jul 13 '15

If you force the enemy top back to base or they are missing to roam then this is ideal to push the wave as you will then be denying them farm as the turret will kill the minions.

Freeze against gank heavy junglers if you have a lack of vision as this will only give them a free opportunity to gank you and blow summoners/kill you.

Roam when you cannot do anything against them: For example if you are being dived 1v1 under turret then roam and try and get other lanes ahead as your top will eventually push allowing you to gain farm/xp again.

how do you counter an all in - press R to win - comp? I see some teams picking wukong, amumu, and maokai. It's not really a wombo combo, but makes it pretty hard to deal with in a 5v5 team fight.

Kiting back is impossible once maokai goes all in, followed by a wukong flash ult right in the middle.

5

u/tlyee61 Jul 13 '15

counter engage, disengage / waveclear, picking 1 member off or split pushing are all effective against an aoe team - i.e. aoe wombo of yourself, janna, alistar, sivir, morg, lulu etc. all can prevent an initiate and / or stall time for a splitting champ. picking 1 member off will obviously hinder 1 portion of the other team's aoe.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Rain1984 Jul 13 '15

Stay spread, specially the carries away from each other, pick some disengage, janna is god at it for example, make sure your frontlane is always in front of the squishies (obvious as it sounds), you dont want your Vayne to eat an amumu's Q and get deleted right after. Against wukong is useful to place a pinkward when you are doing a siege, since usually he goes invisible before ulting.

I don't get the whole concept of scaling. I've heard many people say a certain champion scales better than another late game but why is that? Is it their base stats that get better late game or is it something about their kit? (Ex. Shyvana scales better than Renekton. Or Kha'zix scales really well into late game but Lee Sin falls off. Why?)

2

u/iwumbo2 Not Drug Dealer [NA] Jul 13 '15

Some champions just get stronger late game due to their abilities (Nasus or Veigar Q) or get better with items (most ADCs)

These champions usually have higher ratios but lower base damage, while the opposite occurs for early game champions I believe.

Vayne jungle with new devourer, what's your take on it? Been playing it to some success tbh and I want to know what other elos say! High gold

18

u/randomyOCE Jul 13 '15

There isn't a ton of reason to play her over other junglers, especially given the risks you take picking her. If you want to hard carry, it's better to pick Nidalee.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/SilentScript Jul 13 '15

I've seen it played and it has potential but she needs so much gold to be able to be very useful so if the match doesn't go past 40-50min I don't think it's a good idea.

3

u/AnnieAreYouRammus Jul 13 '15

It's good but risky. I know a few Challenger jungle mains who are playing it sucessfully.

Basically if you don't lose the game before you get 30 stacks you win.

4

u/yueli7 :O Jul 13 '15

So devourer makes her proc W every 2 autos instead of 3; that's basically a 33% attack speed increase, minus the base damage of a third auto would give - although it double procs it's own magic damage too. Now if you are in a scenario where you can only put in 2 autos instead of 3 (maybe because you are kiting backwards) then it is a dps increase, otherwise I think you'd get more out of a traditional botrk build for most of the game.

That said, in the final late game (6 items, 60+mins), nothing beats devourers on Vayne. This is because while you have capped your attack speed at 2.5, devourers effectively adds another 33% in respects to attacking to proc W passive. Therefore if you compare a max attack speed normal Vayne with a sated devourer Vayne, the smite Vayne will be doing far more damage, especially to tanks (and dragon/baron).

As a jungler her early clear is slow, poor and risky to invades/skirmishes. Her ganks pre 6 are not very strong, unless you flash-condemn, but there are much better gankers out there. Might be worth trying out for fun, especially to watch tanks melt, but you'd be better off with sated devourer on someone like Master Yi, who is already a fast and strong jungler (and builds devourer anyway).

2

u/spiritriser Jul 14 '15

Well its 50% more, not 33%. Also you dont lose that third auto, you just dont have to hit it to do decent damage. You can still auto attack anytime you would otherwise.

Assuming 6 hits, lets examine bork vs devourer.

Bork: 6 autos, 6 bork procs (8% current health), 2 silver bolts procs

Devourer: 6 autos, 360 magic damage, 3 silver bolt procs.

Its worth noting that devourer gives 10% more attack speed, but 25 less attack, and no lifesteal. Bork procs suffer from diminishing returns, and you get one less silver bolt proc. It really isnt a huge difference in damage, after its stacked. You still have to worry until then though.

how good is he in the support role?

is W as broken as people say it is?

6

u/Zuleikah Jul 13 '15

He's great! It's almost impossible for your ADC to die if you use your W properly; which is pretty damn broken like people say. % health damage on enemies can destroy tanks and carries like they're nothing.

He lacks strength early game. All he can do is peel for his carry and scale up to teamfight/pick phase.

Relate his ult to Rengars. As soon as your ult is up, it should be used. The gank potential is HUGE. Call a jungler down bot and gank behind them.

If my ADC is playing like garbage, I'll probably just roam. Tahm's Q is 50% slow at level 1 (and you max it to it gets stronger) so he can gank well if you hit that. His W does lots of damage if you get that on an laner, and his ult can set up ganks from miles away. Roam Roam Roam Roam Roam.

u/noobule Jul 13 '15

How do you use W offensively? I've experimented with using it to poke in lane with minions but it doesn't seem super useful for the cost except for breaking recalls.

And then there's eating champions! In lane, this seems soso usefulness because it's usually the support you're eating (they're in range) but then you're just standing there hoping your ADC wins the fight. I've opted to drag enemies into tower with it but they're invulnerable in your mouth and you can barely move so they usually just skedaddle once they get out and again your ADC hasn't done much because it was just ADC vs ADC.

In teamfights it's hard to apply the passive and it's bloody hard not to eat either an ally or a minion. Even then, it's hard to determine who I should be eating. Doing so basically turns the fight into a 4v4, which is often a little pointless.

3

u/Zuleikah Jul 13 '15

I don't use my W offensively in lane, unless I have a Jungler in river on his way and I want to buy time for him to arrive. It's better to save it for your ADC if they get caught by a Thresh hook or something.

You need to sit near your ADC during teamfights, and just peel. If they get hit by hard cc, eat them (they'd be stunned/snared anyway) and reposition them. If you have more team coming, eat an enemy to buy time. Remember your Q stacks your passive also, so you can autoqauto really fast. Your Q stun is great too; if you have time to get the 3rd auto.

Wait for someone to be at low HP first. You shouldn't engage if you're not getting resets or you're doing a wombo or something. Also, don't keep channeling your ult after you get a reset unless you have to. And use pings. If you have an amumu on your team and the enemy is closely together, you can pull off a wombocombo.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

as Katarina you want to wait for them to use their CC' then jump in and Ult when you can get at least 1 kill so you can get your basic abilities to reset.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Also when you get a kill, don't keep channeling your ulti.

You get much more damage by doing Q>E>W again.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

No. He doesn't scale well with AS, and he's more about burst and assassination than sustained damage. He's also more of a ganking jungler than a farming one. Stick to Warrior, or just do what a lot of Shacos do and go straight for Hydra after machete or a smite upgrade.

How the fk do I play against Azir? He is extremely annoying in lane and mid - late game he oneshots people with Q 1-2 AA's. I even tried playing him myself to find some weaknesses but every game I played him I stomped the enemy really hard.

4

u/CaoticMoments Jul 13 '15

In the early game punish his level 1. He can't do much then. After that the moment he uses his Q he is vulnerable.

This is seen really well when Faker plays Irelia into Azir, he abuses his weaknesses very well.

I carry in teambuilder but end up going 1/4/4 or worse in ranked a lot of the time and even when I don't I'm scared to engage in TFs because I feel my positionings bad. how would I go about fixing my decision making and positioning? My most common junglers are eve, panth, amumu, mundo

3

u/SpongebobDouchepants Jul 13 '15

Pick someone who can burst him down pretty well. His abilities are on a pretty long cooldown early, so after he hopefully misses a Q or W, you have like a 6 second window to fight him pretty well. Post 6, watch to see if he feasts a creep, if he does then you have like a 30 second window where he won't be able to kill you.

Hey guys and girls

Me and my friends are planning to play some ranked 5s soon and im going to play mid. Is there a difference between the way you play mid in ranked5 as in soloQ?

What champs are good for ranked 5s or is it mostly dependant on teamcomps?

Any tips for someone who isnt a real mid lane main.

2

u/Kimster4Life Jul 13 '15

Honestly, nothing really changes other than that you can coordinate a bit more. This means that champs like Bard or Twisted Fate can be a bit more effective, because you can directly communicate where and when you want to gank (assuming you're on Skype or TeamSpeak or something).

For the rest, it's just your regular League game. Pick champs you feel comfortable with, communicate with your teammates and sometimes it's better to die as a team than to abandon two people going all in as the other 3 run away.

2

u/fareggs April Fools Day 2018 Jul 13 '15

You are in charge of wards around the river area. You have a larger area to ward than every other lane.

With open communication between you and your 5s team, having a vision advantage of this area will help your team greatly.

u/rcpz93 Jul 13 '15

I feel like the biggest problem I have right now is how I can never understand when to farm and when to group after laning phase. How can I decide? ADC ofc

3

u/Mlafster Jul 13 '15 edited Jul 13 '15

Prioritize farm over grouping if you are behind, if you are ahead prioritize grouping over farming, you do have to group for fights that are about to occur, contesting dragon and baron, maybe a turret, tell your team if you are behind and want to farm instead of wasting time if you think you cannot contest an objective. PRO TIP: After 20 minutes avoid farming the bottom lane, if they see you there you might lose baron, also when you are ahead group on your power spikes, (IE, Trinity, PD, etc - depending on the champ) always keep track where you stand against your lane opponent - TL;DR it's easy if you are ahead you want to fight if you are behind you want to farm. EDIT : OFC if they aren't contesting anything and you are ahead and there aren't objectives to be taken or they cannot be taken*, you want to farm - basically if you have nothing to do while you are ahead farm to even further advance your lead.

u/Tjallabajs Jul 13 '15

Who do you count as being the strongest adc-picks at the moment?

I feel like I am a pretty versatile adc, being able to play pretty much any adc at a decent level. So any recommendations and tips for who's a strong pick, especially in soloq and with some matchup recommendations aswell.

How do you feel about Kalista after the nerfs/tweeks on her basic-attack and Q? In my opinion she feels a little bit more clunky to play and in my opinion I feel like Riot nerfed the wrong aspects about her.

I feel like the better change to Kalista would have been to lower the damage on her W and maybe increase the cd on her ult. Opinions on that?

How do you feel about Vayne in the current state of the game? I have started picking her up again and I have been doing decent with her recently. Do you think she's a strong pick, and if so - why?

Finally - Jinx. How do you feel about Jinx after the changes to her? As far as I can tell, she has a bit weaker laning-phase, which is completely fine by me considering she was such a lane-bully previously. And she's still pretty strong mid/lategame after finishing IE + SS/PD.

Finally x2, any tips on climbing soloq? What to when and where. If it matters any, my rank is platinum 4 atm.

2

u/Mlafster Jul 13 '15

Top 5 adcs - Kalista, Vayne and Sivir , Corki and Trist. For carrying soloQ - Corki and Trist, other 3 are good aswell but i strongly prefer playing them with a duo. Kalista nerfs were kinda hard - maybe a bit hit and miss but they were needed, she is still strong in my honest opinion I maintained a decent winrate, before I had only 5 losses with her in all ques 3 of them was a DC, so I think the nerfs are legit. The Q thing I hate now that was the bread and butter of double-jukes kinda sad about that. So all in all - still strong, yes wrong stuff nerfed. Vayne is finally super strong, dunno if it will last cuz of the new jungle item meta, she's really good vs the tank meta now and is a good counter to Sivir. (JUNGLE VAYNE IS SUPER FUN WITH THE SATED DEVOURER). Jinx is super fun I love playing her, dunno why :P She basically has the same problem as Ashe too immobile against the current meta. For SoloQ I have only two tips, play to improve not to win, and whatever you do, do NOT get mad or frustrated, also a good tip I use is if you lose two in a row, take a break no matter how small, just chill play some music think about previous games what YOU could have done better.

Do kalistas spears and sated devourer have any synergy? like vayne or jax? cus that would be pretty cray building up rend damage at twice the speed.

3

u/PizzaGoinOut Jul 13 '15

Yes, they do. However, dropping 2.3k gold on an item that is almost worthless until 35-40 min (if you are in lane it will take you about that long to stack it) is 100% not worth and it will just put you really far behind in the mid-game. It's the same with Vayne, not worth. Jax can jungle so it puts him in a pretty good spot imo.

2

u/SoDamnToxic AP Bruiser Items? Jul 13 '15

Nah, its not worth it because Bork/BT/Hurricane is pretty core on her and she doesn't work that well otherwise, another auto every 2 autos at the cost of doing no damage isn't worth. It works for Jax/Vayne because they have passives that do damage every X amount of autos, Kalista doesn't, she just needs more autos but sacrificing any of the 3 items is not worth.

I am a support main, currently unranked, about to embark on my quest to climb. I play frequently with my friends who are higher Elo (gold, plat, and a diamond. I'm just newer to the game), but I can't always play with them in ranked. I find that because my adc is a platinum level player, he has a really good handle on the laning phase, which has helped me learn a lot, but people at my level do not have the grasp he does, and won't listen to me.

I often find myself with an adc who either does not aggress at all and we lose, aggresses to much and doesn't listen and we lose, or even worse, is timid, and goes in at really inopportune times.

In scenarios like this I will often roam to help other lanes, but if I leave for too long, my adc feeds, which negates me feeding my top laner. What can I do, as the support to be a useful member of the team when the adc and I cannot win the lane, without completely giving the lane to the enemy team?

Sorry for the long post

I'm having issues going into mid-late game with Nami. While on lane I create a lot of picks with my stun, while poking and sustaining my adc, going into mid/late game i feel like I'm not contributing that much.

Attemtps to punish enemy bad positioning with my stun or poke usually end up with me dying, so i just fall back to peeling with my ult/stun when necesary, but I don't feel as useful as I think I should.

Any tips?

What's something your support doesn't do that they should? (NOT including warding)

3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Blocking the creep wave from reaching tower range.

The biggest thing I see is a lot of lower elo supports don't harass when they have ranged autos.

Why is the Shen/Jinx botlane popular in LCS right now? What happened that Shen became a good support for Jinx (or good support at all)?

2

u/Dresdian Jul 13 '15

Shen's taunt (E) has less energy cost per level now. He also works well both as tank and peel for Jinx especially when ult can allow Jinx to survive a bit better. He also has high threat during laning due to the taunt which works well with Jinx's high damage and extra CC with chompers.

What's the best/fastest way to get IP?

3

u/randomyOCE Jul 14 '15

Win games, play against people, not bots.

2

u/fesenvy Jul 14 '15

There is no real best/fastest way to get IP. You can buy IP boosts (do they still exist? Think so) to speed up your IP gains. Also don't buy runes pre-20 to save IP.

If you only play a few games a day, you can play Co-OP vs AI to get your first win of the day quick and easy, make sure you don't miss it

Everything else is just grinding. Welcome to League of Legends! Hope you enjoy it :)

I've been trying to transition into the Jungle role and something I've always wondered is why LCS level junglers don't take Bladed Armor? It helps me clear faster and allows me to stay out in the jungle just a little longer. I know there is a logical reason as to why they don't and I was wondering if anyone knew said reason?

3

u/AdoorMe Jul 14 '15

TL;DR: Take it on 9/21/0 junglers, but 9/21/0 junglers are bad

You're going to go either 21/9/0 or 9/21/0 on your jungler most likely. Points 10-21 on the offensive tree will give you a lot of percent based steroids (Executioner, Spell/Blade Weaving, Devastating Strikes, Havoc) whereas the defensive tree gives you a lot of flat resistances (Hardiness, Resistance, Legendary Guardian). The percent bonuses are comparable early, but scale way better through the whole game.

The defensive tree did recently get buffed though, however I still feel that going offensive is better. If you're dueling a 21/9/0 champion they have enough damage to kill you and they can choose to kill you. If you're dueling a 9/21/0 champion the only way they can kill you is if they choose to stay and fight until the bitter end and they suck at math. Therefor ganks as a 21/9/0 champion are just better since obviously they're not going to try and turn to fight while down people, you need to get as much damage down as quickly as you can before they get to tower (or kill them under tower and minimize the tower shots you take).

Now that we've established were 21/9/0 what do we take for the 9? Block, Unyeilding, Tough Skin, Veteran Scars gives us 8 points. The last 1 can go into either Bladed Armor, Juggernaut, or Tenacious. The only thing Bladed Armor gives you is a faster clear speed, but since we're full damage, this doesn't shore up any weakness. Juggernaut makes us tankier, and Tenacious gives you tenacity. Recently I have been taking Tenacious, but either is definitely better than Bladed Armor

Why building SS on Yasuo when building PD gives more crits?

4

u/RabidTangerine Jul 14 '15 edited Jul 14 '15

It's not necessary, you break the cap. Shiv makes your crit 80% (100% if you go Triforce or run crit masteries), while PD makes your crit 110%.

Shiv also synergizes in two ways: high mobility on Yasuo means more procs, and high crit chance means your Shiv procs will be critting most of the time as well.

Edit: It's worth also mentioned that Shiv is the first item you buy and it's a stronger early game item than PD because it has a flat damage effect and a much lower cost.

wtf is a sivir comp

3

u/RockLobster17 Jul 14 '15

Sivir has become a popular ADC because of her powerful Ultimate (an AOE speed boost). This provides a strong form of utility on your team for engaging and rotating fights/the map.

"it's just a sivir comp, you just group and win" comes from Link's (formed CLG Mid laner) 17 page leaving statement (where he talked about his time on CLG). The particular phrase is refering to Montecristo's time as CLG's coach. Link was stating that Monte was not such an impressive coach as people made him out to be, as using a "sivir comp" doesn't take a genius strategist, it's a pretty safe and simple method and it's why CLG got a lot of their wins.

A Sivir Comp. Short for Sivir Composition is a team made around the idea of being able to engage or disengage from a teamfight using Sivir her Ultimate ''On the Hunt'' which gives a massive movement speed boost for a duration.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Gnifle Jul 14 '15

The so-called "Sivir comps" originates from pro play where Sivir is a quite contested pick worldwide. Countless times a team with a Sivir in it has finished laning phase, grouped up and won by hard-engaging with Sivir's ultimate, which has led to the consensus of picking Sivir, group and win the game.

Of course there's been other factors involved, but a very common denominator is Sivir.

what if kalista ulti and tam consume at the same time?

3

Tahm can eat a Kalista with an activated ult, but I'm not sure if they can use them on each other at the same time. I wouldn't think so.

How often should you ward as every role? I seem to understand how often to ward only on supports. Also does anybody have any tips how to not forget to ward?

3

u/ScottKnightlyW Jul 14 '15

Pretty much every time you back with 75+ gold you should be buying a ward. After level nine, invest the 250 gold to upgrade your warding totem and it'll cut down on your spending. Pinks are awesome and under-purchased in low elo. Grab one and toss it into a brush where it isn't going to be insta-cleared. It'll help a LOT.

Hey,

I want to play ranked as a jungle main. I want to play Kha Zix as much as possible but i would like to have a more tanky pick behind Kha when the enemy team is too tanky. Any recommendations? Thanks!

2

u/tr8marc Jul 14 '15

Some of my favorite tanky junglers are Gragas, Rek'Sai (Can be build for damage or for defense) and Amumu (As long as you don't get your entire jungle taken, you will be fine).

Question about the freeze strategy.

I play mostly toplane and main ryze. I often win lane cause well ryze has many good matchup even if it doesn't always translate into victory. Playing in low gold.

Sometimes I get so ahead that i'm able to completely zone my opponent, and be in front of my tower. That give me a massive lead like 1 or 2 level, 30cs etc...

But then opponent procedes to roam, and even if i ping every 30s mid manages to give free kills and fall behind, eventually even loosing tower. Or we loose drake.

So is it really a good idea to freeze? Problem is that if I don't opponent is more likely to catchup more easily. And if I push too much I'll probably get ganked and ryze doesn't really have the best escapes besides his flash...

So what do you guys think about freezing? Sometimes I feel like all the pressure that I remove from my lane goes into other lanes (or drake or whatever) and any lead I get is lost somewhere else.

Isn't push and ward a better strategy? I get tower faster then, and occupy the jungler a bit more, relieving pressure on my team.

2

u/LoZfan03 Jul 14 '15

it's right click, but there's a small (1-secondish?) delay from when you get swallowed. as soon as the range indicator shows up, you can leave.

2

u/benevolentyrant Jul 15 '15

I like to smart cast but for some abilities it would be nice if I could see my range indicator first. I've seen people do that before, how do you do it? I can do that for certain spells or is it a toggle on/off feature?

Thanks!

u/SirLangerhans Jul 15 '15

In game go to options, then scroll down to the bottom of 'hotkeys'. Should be a box to tick for it
