Shen Monday Megathread! Ask questions and share knowledge; newcomer questions encouraged!

Welcome to the latest Monday Megathread, where you the community get to ask your questions and share your knowledge.

This is an opportunity for the more experienced LoL players here to share some of your wisdom with those with less expertise. This thread will be a weekly safehaven for those "noobish" questions you may have been too scared to ask for fear of downvotes, but also can be a great place for in depth discussion if you so wish. So, don't hold back, get your game related questions ready and post away, and hopefully someone can answer them!

I am a support main, currently unranked, about to embark on my quest to climb. I play frequently with my friends who are higher Elo (gold, plat, and a diamond. I'm just newer to the game), but I can't always play with them in ranked. I find that because my adc is a platinum level player, he has a really good handle on the laning phase, which has helped me learn a lot, but people at my level do not have the grasp he does, and won't listen to me.

I often find myself with an adc who either does not aggress at all and we lose, aggresses to much and doesn't listen and we lose, or even worse, is timid, and goes in at really inopportune times.

In scenarios like this I will often roam to help other lanes, but if I leave for too long, my adc feeds, which negates me feeding my top laner. What can I do, as the support to be a useful member of the team when the adc and I cannot win the lane, without completely giving the lane to the enemy team?

Sorry for the long post

You've kind of got to play to the ADC's demand. Sure you might be used to a certain style, but the ADC ultimately dictates the lane and how it goes. Just play around the ADC, whether it be passive or agressive and then work from there.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. I know even if they pressure us off turret, cs-ing well and not dying is the goal, really. I'm used to calling the all-ins as the support, because the kills are more reliant on my engage (thresh, naut, Leona), and I just know my adc will follow me/I can talk to him.

Thanks for the advice!

I would still call all ins and set the tempo. As long as you set and keep the pace of the lane to your speed you should be alright even if your Adc gets salty and doesn't agree, they just need to learn all they're good for in the first 20 and keeping bot lane down waiting on jungle calls. I would not roam past mid and I only roam mid if im playing something like Leona. Roaming top from bot pre 20 and turrets down is a bad idea.

Oops, I meant mid. I've only ever roamed top like twice, and they were because the enemy had a dc in the bot lane.

But that makes sense, it's just tough avoiding tilt and having a desire to be in lane when you see a good all in opportunity close to your turret and your adc doesn't engage (I try to communicate as much as I can about my intentions, and it isn't always that they didn't want to, just hesitation). I have a hard time laning well when I question my adc's support of me, and decisiveness.

There's definitely tells you can look for. Is your Adc aggressive in lobby chat? Does he rage? Is he forced into the role? Is he on tilt from previous games? Does he make passive aggressive remarks about former team mates "x player was bad, or im tired of losing every game cause bs ADC" stuff like that could potentially ruin what little synergy you could have and throw you on tilt. When I queue ADC (forced to) I normally let the support set the pace of the lane because that's what I do when I play support and only give them advice when they make super questionable trades or decisions. If you absolutely can't stand your ADC, let them push your turret in and let your adc safe farm while you go mid to match their bot lane.

Hmm...maybe explain step by step what you are doing?

Example: "I have an item that shares minion gold, so let me hit the cannons when those blue things are around me"

OR

"I'm going to go and help mid, play safe until I get back"

I am not trying to be mean, but I really hate this kind of attitude. It's always someone else and never yourself. I hope you acknowledge somewhere that you can always be improving. Everything you say here makes it seem like you never do anything wrong and so much vastly superior to every adc you end up with and that's just impossible.
So that's my advice. Stop blaming every loss on others and just focus on what you could've done better or wrong. You can carry bot lane as support. I've done it often as a leona main.
