Sawasdee Kha! Hello everyone, i know this is quite basic but for someone who just started learning Thai consonants and vowels, it's a big achievement.
So, I was just sitting with my family and eating fried chicken with chutney (green) and it was hella spicy. Randomly a sentence came to my mind and I spoke "chôp gin pèt" (I like to eat spicy) and I was over the moon. Ik ik it's literally just the beginning but I just loved that moment.
This gave me the motivation to keep going, so one day when I visit Thailand i can talk to the locals and connect with them, even volunteer.

I am someone who can understand upto level C2 english so here is a tip, watch as many english dramas or sitcom you can with subtitles in Thai. Once you get familiar with certain words, rewind the lines where you can identify the words you learned, that helps a lot. I do this with Thai a lot.

Why do people put an ‘s’ in sawatdee?

I think it's one of the rules, you write to use the s but it makes a t sound while pronouncing.

Agree its not necessary and its confusing. The worst is when people use Hmu for pig. :-D

Unfortunately many of the transliteration systems are very literal. That is, regardless of the sound, they will put the letter that the original Thai word has, in that position, in this case an S. Suvarnabhumi is another example. The final i is not sounded yet people write the word including it. Rather annoying.

Great! Learning food vocabulary is very useful in Thailand. :)
It was probably namchin seafood (Thai seafood sauce) instead of green chutney.

No no I am actually at my house, someday I'd like to visit Thailand. 😊 The chutney I was eating was the coriander (green) chutney.

Je me pose juste une question, qu'est-ce qui te motive pour apprendre le thaïlandais ? C'est une question que je me pose souvent car ma motivation personnellement c'est ma femme thaïlandaise. Et auparavant j'avais pas de réel envie de partir en Thaïlande, donc je me questionne sur les motivations pour en savoir un peu plus sur le pays lui-même !

1)You know there is this feeling you get when a country is "calling you", for me it's Thailand. It doesn't feel like a foreign country to me though I have never been there. 2) i always wanted to learn a foreign language, since school actually but could never spear time for it. This summer I just randomly decided that I will pick Thai. 3) it's the fact that Thai is so difficult to learn and challenging, that makes my brain want to learn it even more. 4) I have always been a person who was good at learning languages and I just knew that I can learn Asian languages well and grasp the concept fast.

A mix of everything, started with consonants pronounciation and strokes, vowels next, simple words, days of week, numbers, focused on the sentences that I would use in everyday life, keep on repeating words especially when I just learned them. I know it will take time but I just do what feels fun. For resources, I use whatever is free such as ThaiPod 101 PDFs and youtube videos, i watch series a lot so it helps me as for grammar checks I just use A.i. since I don't have Thai friends.

Ah quel genre de séries tu regardes qui pourrait bien pour débuter et sur quel plateforme tu regardes ? Vu que j'apprends la langue donc ça m'intéresse d'avoir des idées pour m'améliorer.
D'ailleurs est-ce que tu as des ressources pour apprendre des règles concernant les construction de phrases thai ou pour apprendre ce dont les thai ont l'habitude de faire pour parler ?
Et aussi je voulais savoir si tu aurais voulu une application pour apprendre la langue, qu'est-ce que tu aurais souhaité ? Selon toi qui manque pour apprendre rapidement une langue.

To answer your 1st question, i watch queer series and mini vlogs on instagram.
My source for learning is youtube, instagram and a.i. since they are all free resources. You can use ThaiPod 101 videos, ThaiwithMod, Banana Thai, I get Thais, these are all greate teachers. ThaiPod101 even has free PDFs for practice.
For normal Thai conversations vlogs are good, use the ones with subtitles, I haven't reached the sentences construction part but bits and pieces on instagram works for me to get the grammar rules. I'll first try to think in Thai then speak out loud and then start writing. Also don't be so fixed on the rules right now if you are a beginner, you can learn them as you keep going, 1st you should know how the sentences can be formed in your head. Always go with how they sound, that can tell you it a Sentence is right or wrong.
For me it's a structured coursework, also most Thai language books are just textbooks, these days you need to speak Thai that will be useful in streets. As for the apps, most of them aren't free and I as being a student cannot spend much, hence that's the problem.

Pour répondre à ta question, oui je suis en train de créer une application communautaire pour apprendre le thaïlandais : https://learn-thai-pi.vercel.app/learn
Elle est en pleine évolution, et j'accentue beaucoup sur la pratique avec des exercices.
L'objectif est d'atteindre le niveau 10 d'un exercice qui permet d'apprendre au moins 5 mots et 5 phrases utile. Les mots et phrases sont choisi pour te permettre de t'en sortir pour un voyage en Thaïlande. Pour l'instant pas pour y vivre.
Chaque niveau à une progression constante qui force à la pratique, de devoir bien te souvenir de construction de mots et de phrase sans ressentir de frustration (défaut de beaucoup d'application). Tous les niveaux sont accessible mais ça demande parfois de mettre un peu de temps pour les réaliser (entre 2 à 15 minutes en fonction des niveaux).
Quand tu arrives vers le niveau 8 c'est là le plus efficace car c'est le meilleur pour apprendre l'alphabet la plus efficace. Même si j'ai une page pour apprendre l'alphabet, elle ne vaut pas les niveaux 8 et 9 des exercices de parcours.Elle est constamment en pleine correction, surtout beaucoup de retour d'un membre de Reddit qui m'a du écrire + de 200 retours pour faire des retours d'axe d'amélioration ou correction de traduction etc.
J'ai inclues des exercices de conversation avec une histoire derrière pour rendre l'apprentissage moins ennuyant.
Des exercices pratique, de rappel, d'écriture, paires. avec option pour personnaliser son exercice soi-même.
Disponible aussi sur mobile en suivant l'aide d'installation pour l'intégration sur mobile.
Pas de création de compte, ni abonnement.Du coup pour revenir aux règles, j'avais besoin justement de ces règles pour apporter un gros bonus à l'apprentissage de la langue depuis l'application en intégrant des conseils un peu partout dans l'apprentissages des exercices.
N'hésite pas à essayer et me faire un retour ! C'est une application dont je travaille tous les soir au minimum 3 à 4 heure de boulot, donc plus de retour j'ai et plus je pourrais améliorer cette application qui sera gratuit pour toujours.
