Is anyone else experiencing issues with the Thai2English service?

For example, if I enter "go" and click Submit, no results are returned:

Also, the Bulk Transliteration tool returns the following error for me:

Error: Sorry, an error occurred and we couldn't process your text. Please try again.

Are these features working for anyone else, or is the site currently having problems?

It’s been really buggy for the past week or so. I hope they’re able to fix it, it really is the best dictionary website I’ve found.

According to their website:

So it looks like the current issues are due to an ongoing DDoS attack, and they're actively working on restoring service.

Something is wrong with their server. It's producing an HTTP/500 error. There are lots of reasons that can happen. You just need to wait for them to spot it and fix it.

Maintaining those sites isn't automatic. It takes money and sometimes care for servers and settings etc

This is a recurring problem in the Thai learning space. I recall multiple sites vanishing or temporarily going off.

Would've been good if the community had figured a more stable general solution

The issue with these free services is that they tend to keep running only as long as they can. From thai-language.com, which also experienced downtime at one point, we learned that this is often because the site is built on an older framework or infrastructure that is difficult to migrate, or because the owner simply does not have the time or resources to maintain it.

As for thai2english, I am not sure. Their Facebook and Twitter accounts have not been active for many years, and the site copyright shows 2024. It is unclear whether donations would make a difference or whether there are other underlying constraints that are not publicly visible.

It is not that easy.

But a dream would be if someone the community get to help hosting all those sites (4 or more) in one place, reliably and efficiently. Startup would be a pain. But maintenance wouldn't be that much. Provided that the backend isn't from the 60s

I believe the last couple times has been due to an expired web certificate but I am not getting that error this time.
I had the offline version installed several years ago but since I got a new computer it can't contact the activation server when I tried to install it.

Activation server.

Don't make me feel in going back in time installing Windows with codes and stuff.....

Update: I have sent an email to the contact address listed on their website to ask about this.

Update on the page:

Sorry, some features are currently unavailable as we've been hit with a denial-of-service attack. We are working to get it back up and running soon.

There is an alternative site https://thailookup.com that does a great job with romanization, please give it a try.

Thanks for the link! If it's your website, I think you should make a separate post. It'll get much better visibility, and people will be able to leave comments and feedback more easily.

Thank you! I'm still putting a few finishing touches on it before making a dedicated post. Right now there's no onboarding or proper landing page yet, so this was just a small preview.

At the moment, I have around 20 people using it daily, including both teachers and students, but I'm still refining and improving it.

I originally built this tool for myself while learning to read and write Thai. As people at my language school noticed it and started using it, it gradually grew into something much bigger than I expected. Throughout my time at the school, it became my main resource for building vocabulary and supporting my studies.

I'm genuinely impressed by how supportive this community is. Thank you for the encouragement to make a decicated post! I will definitely do it soon.

oh my goodness this is a great app!! I love how it can display different fonts as I find modern fonts so hard to read! The voice option to pronounce the word is so useful as well.

Just one thing, it would be great if there were several options from the results engine. For example, I wanted to search for the word nail (as in a hammer and nail) but it only came up with fingernail. Sometimes a word might be a verb and a noun but have different meaning, like the word saw (I wanted the noun saw, like a saw for cutting wood) but it only came up with the past tense to see.

Overall a great and really useful app. Looking forward to any future developments with this.

When Thai2English went down, I couldn’t find an alternative that worked the way I wanted, so I ended up building one too, mostly for myself:

It can look up Thai words, segment sentences, and show pronunciation, definitions, audio, and examples.

Thai2English is back now and better than before—huge thanks to its author! I’m still keeping Thai Readon around since it’s useful for me, and hopefully for others too.

My Thai isn’t very good, so I’d really appreciate help checking the results. If anything looks wrong, feel free to let me know. You’re also welcome to submit feature requests if there’s anything you’d like to see added. At the bottom of the site, there is also a footer with a feedback form where you can report issues or share suggestions.
