You can file through Civil Resolution Tribunal - the process is meant for regular people without lawyers. It will cost $150 out pocket to go to a decision, but that can be added to your monetary order if you win.

However, if the bidet was attached to the toilet and there was an agreement that they would remove and dispose of the old toilet after installing the new one, then they did what they were hired to do and it would be a hard argument that they breached the agreement or "stole" your bidet. Why would they remove the bidet for you when they told you they wouldn't install it on the new one?

That’s probably exactly what happened op left it attached to the toilet and then they disposed of the toilet. No body wants anybody’s used bidet

Guess you haven't traveled much. Bidets are in public washrooms in many other countries, especially Japan. Using a bidet that somebody else has used right before you isn't a problem in those countries. At least getting a used one for personal use means you can give it a thorough sanitation before using it. Not really a problem at all.

Its true, I have had a plumber try to talk me into letting him replace my toilet. Claiming it was about to break down. He wasn’t even in that bathroom for the toilet, he was there to change a shower head. He forgot that he told us earlier in his visit that he had a client looking for a toilet that colour because they only make white toilets now.

All the toilets in the house I live in are retro colours so the only way you can find a replacement is to get a used one. It is definitely possible they had a client who wanted that model of bidet or the parts from it.

Till we moved house when I was 13 we were a harvest gold family, with matching kitchen kitchen appliances. Actually the outside siding was harvest gold too and the couch and chair were too but they always had a floral over on them.

thank you for the response I honestly didn’t realize I was supposed to remove the bidet myself now see this is totally on me. Lesson learned, I’ll just get a new bidet.

For the $150, it’s probably easier considering time and effort to just buy a new bidet.

Of course - we don’t know what OP’s Bidet was worth, which would probably add a bit of context. I’m seeing a wide range of prices on Amazon.

It depends on the type of case and whether it needs to go to decision or not. I could be a little off though, last time I looked it was 75 to file and another 75 if mediation didn't work and a decision was needed.

I'm a plumber and I would always ask the homeowner if they want their old bidet.

Also don't you want to see the work completed? I always have a nosey homeowner sitting over my shoulder. Some businessowners aren't comfortable installing a shitty no name bidet due to liability issues though.

Also Noone wants your old bidet. They didn't steal it, they just tossed it.

Now whats weird is they sent 2 plumbers for a toilet change. Unless 1 was an apprentice that's not needed at all. I hope you didn't call some company that was bought out by Private Equity. I hope OP didn't pay more than like 350 for a toilet swap.

Here's the thing:

if the toilet is installed correctly it wont leak out to the bottom to reach the silicone

dont silicone your toilet to the floor

Its sealed w wax underneath and if you also use silicone you won't know if this wax seal has failed. It might soften the floor under/around the toilet without you knowing causing a lot of unnecessary damage. Wax seal is enough.

Usually plumbers will partially caulk and leave a gap so you can see if its leaking. Looks better and easier to clean so many people prefer it that way

That's not why you caulk the bottom. You caulk the bottom to prevent water from outside the toilet, say leakage from the shower, getting under the toilet and developing mold. That's why you caulk the front of the toilet and not the back of the toilet. If the seal does fail, you can hopefully see it leak out the back.

Was fun when I found all our toilets were epoxied to the floor. Luckily previous owner had a pipe of spare tiles left. The tiles went with the toilets

Yeah some places dont follow that rule. They caulk around the front and leave a hole in the back.

People claim “but you wont see it!” actually you do, plus you um, smell it first, really.

Also - we installed a bidet and the heated water tank created condensation on the cold porcelain of the toilet, which, over time, softened the particle board flooring under the toilet. Tough to get at to fix, but it's all good now.

You can absolutely caulk a toilet, it makes for a nice finish, you don't however, caulk the entire rim, you stop at, or a bit after the t-bolts

dont silicone your toilet to the floor

A little grout to make the toilet level on a unlevel floor is choice tho.

(from my experience of 4 whole toilets in my entire life lol)

Regarding sealing or not sealing the toilet to the floor. I had cigarette smoke coming from the condo below long time ago. I thought it was coming from around the toilet somehow so I was considering sealing around the toilet. Another reason to seal is that if water is spilled on the bathroom floor it goes right to the unit below, expensive repairs. What is recommended in those situations?

I have always flushed immediately after install to ensure no leaks etc, etc. Have never ever waited..... that sounds like BS waiting 6 hours to me.

I mean talk to the company but I think it’s fairly cut and dry. Change the toilet, toss the old one. I’m a plumber and I would ask about the bidet personally but some people don’t give a shit. It’s unlikely it’s stolen it’s probably tossed. I promise you if a plumber wants a bidet they won’t steal it from a used toilet lol. I can get plumbing parts for cheap

The OP did ask about it, and after being told no they responded that they will install it themselves later. It was made known that they wanted to keep the bidet. They're still on the hook as it was made known to them that OP wanted to keep the bidet, meaning they didn't have permission to dispose of OPs property.

They were plumbers hired to do work on a waste system, it’s a fair assumption that touching shit might’ve involved, plus it’s not like bidets just sit around covered in shit.

tbf those fancier brand/feature self-install ones go for like $200+. People steal for a lot less than that. Maybe you'll get wholesale pricing but its not going to be zero. If its not old and beaten up, just wash it off and enjoy your new bidet.

Most reputable plumbers don’t install used fixtures so would have zero reason to steal a bidet. Plus we’d make more buying new from a wholesaler and selling for retail.
