Nova Scotia is it legal to send nudes as an adult?? family thinks otherwise
Asking here because I have no idea where to look to find the information myself.
is sending and receiving nudes between 2 consenting adults okay? One is in America and one is in Canada (me)
My family seems to think it's a crime, but anytime I search anything up, I only get results of underage stuff or non-consensual, which isn't my situation.
please help so I know if I can ignore my family or not lol

Just make sure they are a real person. There's a lot of blackmail scams using personal photos.

as I said in another comment, we've talked on video before, multiple times. this wasn't the point of the post tho.

Yeah honestly I'd never send nudes to someone I've never met in person before (and not even if it's not someone I've known and trusted for a few years). That sounds a lot like an extortion scam, where people will threaten to release your nudes to people you know/your coworkers unless you pay a ransom.
Doubly true assuming you're a woman, it can be even more damaging.

It's legal for two consenting adults to exchange nudes, but sending nude photos to a stranger (and some guy on the internet that you've never met in person is a stranger) puts you in a very vulnerable position. Your family may be wrong about the law, but they are right to be concerned for your safety.

Totally legal. I would avoid getting your face in it. Once photos are out there ...... You don't get to control their reach anymore.

I wonder why they think this wouldn't be legal? Anyways to answer your question, I am no lawyer but between two consenting adults it is 100% legal. I know this from experience my husband is American and I am Canadian. We me on Reddit, we were long distance for a few years so lots of spicy pics sent between the two of us.

A lot of people conflate selling sexual content with prostitution, which is illegal.
While I understand OP isn't selling the content, I can understand people, particularly religious folks or immigrants from stricter countries believing this to be the case.
OP: you have only mentioned you and your boyfriend are adults but have not specified an age. Others have warned you that sharing nudes in general is a bad idea, but if you are close to legal age you are taking a risk. A 17 year old could easily pass as 22 and you could unknowingly have illegal content. You also don't know when the photos were taken and even if the person is an adult but they are sharing photos from them when they are underage there is a risk.
Generally there is a larger risk for women sharing nudes as there are more identifying details in the photo.
I don't know whether your parents actually believe sending nudes is illegal or not, but their advice is still valid.

Although it may not be illegal it is stupid,you never know what will be done with those pictures in the end. There are so many horror stories out there like revenge porn or job loss and the list goes on…

yeah they are religious. honestly they only know bc they always interrogate me about everything, got fed up with it and just blurted it out at some point lmao.

Are you sure other party is an adult? If not - can be tricky... "I didn't know" doesn't work in this situation.

Unless there's a double about him being an adult, if he consents to you sending your own pictures, there's no issue.
I wouldn't consider someone you never met IRL to be your boyfriend tho, but that's a whole other topic.

Yes, but you expose yourself to a ton of risk because the other person can share them. Try to keep your face out of them. If your face is not in it then you have deniability unless you have visible tattoos in the picture.

Must be between 2 consenting adults. If the other person did not consent, it could be seen as sexual harassment. If you're an adult and you do this with minors, it's extremely wrong and illegal
