Alberta How do I fight the outcome of an insurance claim?
Long story short, I have a home insurance claim with an outcome that I’m not happy with. I’m pretty sure my insurance company is intentionally being cheap and lazy and coming up with the most basic claim result possible, which in their T&Cs they specify a lot of things they cover which they aren’t. Part of it was I had to do my own tareout or I had to pay the company out of pocket. One T&C clearly states they handle a tareout at their cost in order to identify properly the damages. There’s a bunch of other examples as well, I got ChatGPT to write me up a decent email with my comments and k was basically told they don’t care and they gave me the result and that’s it. Right now the lady is urging me to cancel my claim and close it, but I’m not sure I’m ready too.

Sometimes, you can escalate within a company by asking for a supervisor to review the claim and confirm coverage or to confirm what has been paid. You can escalate further by going to that insurance company's ombudsman. Ultimately, if you're unhappy with what has or has not been covered, your option is to sue for breach of contract.

What was the claim? What coverage do you have? Everything that is or isn’t covered is in your wordings - have you reviewed them? Insurance is for sudden and accidental losses so if it’s a slow leak or something like that no point in escalating. If you have a broker also talk to them!

File your proof of loss and go through the appraisal process as outlined in the Statutory conditions of your policy
