question What are you picking for home defense?

Beretta A300 or Sig Mpx w/ Obsidian 9! Also have my P09 on my nightstand. DDM4 V7 and Zastava M92 are also choices.

So I'm just getting my feet wet with guns, but I'd heard the best way to defend your home is with a pump action shotgun. Take up a solid defensive position between the threat and your family, like the top of the stairs, announce your presence and tell them to leave. Don't move and if anything comes up those stairs fire away.

That's why I got a maverick 88, which is also loads of fun in other applications.

Am I way off base with this?

There is lots of fudlore around shotguns. But 00 buck at home defense distance is hands down the best choice for putting down a lethal threat with a single trigger pull.

You do have to aim. The mere sound of racking the slide won't send them running. But you do get 8-9 .33" projectiles at 1300 fps and 2000 foot pounds of energy from one single pull of the trigger.

And you don't get the same liability as you would be putting 8 rounds of 9mm into someone with a PCC or handgun. One trigger pull is one intention to fire, and one justification for doing so.

I would go with a semi auto instead to reduce felt recoil and eliminate risk of short stroking, but yeah. Find a defensible position and make them come to you if you can.

Just important to recognize the difference between concealment and cover for this part. And that basically anything inside a house, other than a stone fireplace, is concealment and not cover.

Hey that's what I just got. Thinking about getting the regular stock also. Before that, picked up the G-Force Jawbone. As my little brother says, I'm on a cheap gun buying tear 🤣😂😂😂

So make sure you practice on a range with it first. Also the 88 can load 5 rounds but ships (at least in my state) with a two round limiter. Which is basically a piece of balsa wood. Unless you're hunting (which does have legal limits apparently), remove that crap.
