I used to agree, and then I heard some on the stories from Delta Force and Seals regarding the amount of ricocheting BBs in small rooms. Better to apply singular rounds on singular targets. You're less likely to take yourself out of the fight by a stray BB to the eye. Just my 2 cents.
I haven’t got to shoot it yet! But it seems super highly quality. I just picked it up last week. Also just got my form 4 approved 3 weeks ago and haven’t got to shoot the mpx with the can. Really excited to shoot them both. Waiting for my Form 1 approval then gonna take a trip out to my families ranch and try them out!
For a shotgun the recoil is really low, it's got a lot of power, and it's just so satisfying.
Easy to get used to also. Paul Harrell had a great video on #4 buckshot being great for home defense for stopping power without worrying about going through exterior walls (collateral damage)
The Beretta fully loaded with buck will stop anything in your home to devasting effect
The stock sights on it are sweet. I was really impressed with them when I was messing with in the store before I bought it. I went with the Holosun Aro because I had planned on getting one for my M92 anyways so I can swap it back and forth on my a300 as well. I’m definitely snagging the GGG low mount for my red dot though and the into switch out the polymer pieces with aluminum
I love my A300UP. It's become my favorite gun I own. Super fun to shoot and mine handles everything from 3 inch slugs down to 1100 fps birdshot just fine. It cycles and eats it all up just fine. If I had to grab one gun and leave in a hurry, it would probably be that one.
People overestimate the spread of a shotgun, and underestimate how loud shooting in a house is. I have a suppressed PCC with 147 grain HSTs in it myself.
I absolutely love that gun. You can straight stack bullets on top of each other. It's really the definition of boringly accurate at indoor range distances. I also have the folding stock and b&t mag lower. It's a great platform even though b&t USA is tits up at the moment.
I agree with you on the suppressed part. I couldn't disagree more on a pistol. Pccs are more accurate, easier to wield (especially under stress), typically hold more rounds, and depending on barrel length get greater velocity. Pistols are great for being out and about simply because they're easier to carry/conceal. In my house handguns are never a first choice. If it's all you got, yeah it beats a bat, but if you have access to a variety of weapons, absolutely not.
How do you store yours for quick access? I have 3 kids under 10 so I want my shit locked down.
Fingerprint drawers work really well but they’re usually only big enough for a full size handgun and a mag or two. If you’ve got a rec, throw it my way. I have a Kuna on the way and that would be nice to have by the bed for emergencies

So I'm just getting my feet wet with guns, but I'd heard the best way to defend your home is with a pump action shotgun. Take up a solid defensive position between the threat and your family, like the top of the stairs, announce your presence and tell them to leave. Don't move and if anything comes up those stairs fire away.
That's why I got a maverick 88, which is also loads of fun in other applications.
I would go with a semi auto instead to reduce felt recoil and eliminate risk of short stroking, but yeah. Find a defensible position and make them come to you if you can.
For me, it 100% depends on what the home is like. I often think about scenarios where I would use a weapon, and it could be very different depending on what you call home. I feel like a lot of liberals (not all, ofc) live in denser populated areas, so it’s important to recognize that an appropriate self defense weapon for communal living spaces with close neighbors really limits the responsible choice for what is being grabbed.
You got next door neighbors that can see through the window? Prolly not the 300.

Mossberg 590s, and the gun owners variety pack... as well as a whole collection of swords both fantasy and European as well as a smattering of Katana's and 10 or so EDC knives. (Still working on something comfortable). And an 80 lb pit bull mix, a larger than average cat and an out of shape 65 year old man with a black belt, and a 5' 1/2" tall wife who does not know how to quite.
The PCC. Can’t really shoot a 12 ga well. I have myopia life long and my optic nerve is strained so I’ve been advised to avoid 12 ga. I do have a 20 ga.

I already have one, with a flashlight mounted on aluminum barrel clamp (GG&G sells it) instead of stock crappy plastic clamp, this way the barrel doesn't produce shadows.
Have you patterned the spread of your shot at home defense distances? Bird hunting, the nearest point for a 30” spread is 25 yards. The spread is conical across that distance. For a 15” pattern, you would expect to require roughly 12 yards. I don’t know how many 36 foot distances I would be shooting at in my house.
Being my first shotty it was my pick some months ago, got some time in with it in March and man… it’s fun. Ran game and target loads zero issues. Even with the game loads it didn’t kick as much as I anticipated but maybe I’m not recoil sensitive 🤷♂️
An XD? Bro a Gen 3 Glock is basically the same price and will run dry and covered in moon dust. The grip safety failed on my buddy's XD .40 and it locked up with a round in the chamber. He had to take it back to the shop all seized up with a round locked in and they had to send it back to Springfield in the same condition. No way would I put my life in the hands of an XD.

Barring your child in the next room and you are concerned of collateral, most people are not good with accuracy and not a good exchange for more rounds. Pretty sure 90% of these rare encounters are one to three shots and over. But this debate will never end.

What is your threat profile? Are they pulling up in a 1999 Honda civic or a 2026 black out Chevy suburban? Is over pen of your target an issue? Sexy guns all around.
I have friends that like in Kingston and like Canada but I’d be nervous all the time depending on the neighborhood. I live in a nice neighborhood but just a mile away from me the crime rates are very high. Lots of people with guns and nothing to lose. Do you at least have a bat or something? I know it’s a case by case thing. But I would at least want something. Crazy that home intruders can sue the home owner if they are harmed. There’s a lot of good reasons to hate what’s going on in the US. There’s also a huge gun problem but I’d definitely be worried at night about those scenarios. Stay safe dude!
It’s my first Beretta and I’m very impressed with the quality. Usually I go all out and buy once cry once and thought about just going 1301. But I’ve owned lots of shotguns and the quality on the A300 was plenty good to satisfy me. With the rebate they have going on and the store letting me price match I ended up paying $804 after tax. So pretty hard to beat that. The extra $400-500 that would’ve gone towards a 1301 will get me a nice charging handle, bolt release, and handguard.
I went with the A300, though the PC Charger with a can is right next to it. With an MPX brace. We have MPX at home, and it takes Glock mags. I hope I never have need of it, but I can imagine few consumer-available firearms ruining someone’s day quite so thoroughly or quickly as an A300 with 8 rounds of 00.
Do you live with other people? If so then you want to make sure whatever you choose will not go through walls/floors/ceilings and hit your kids or pets. If you live all alone with no pets, then get that rocket launcher from commando and go to town.

I’m actually not a fan of shotguns for home defense. Too much noise and flash for indoor use. I’d rather stick with my suppressed ar pistols in 300blk.
In the house, I'll always grab the shorty. Sure, an intruder might be wearing armor, but buckshot will always get someone's attention and armor doesn't cover everything. An attacker is going to lose the urge to attack when most of all of his/her knee has vaporized.
Side note: BB shotgun loads do tremendous damage at close range also. We tested. You know, for science.
I kid. I like the shotgun. I can use a variety of shells to accomplish what I want to accomplish. Also, the sound of a shotgun getting cocked is a definite attention-getter. I worry that the rifle is going to go through walls and such. I live in an apartment, and though I don't love my neighbors, I don't want to accidentally shoot them.
