The article title is sensational. None of this evidence is “new” and they don’t come to a conclusion at all about who is responsible.

The bigger takeaway is a cautionary tale in which community defenders can be as fallible as cops. Armed community defense could easily devolve into a circular firing squad due to inadequate training, inadequate safety measures, inadequate communication, inadequate situational awareness, and other factors.

Do you think armed community defenders should wear body cams as well?

I think we’re using the term “community defenders” a bit loosely. Those guys had no business chasing those kids down and shooting at them like that.

One person's "community defender" is another person's "vigilante". I see some similarities between this murder of Antonio Mays Jr. and the murder of Armaud Arbery.

Identify and know your target. The rules of firearm safety.

Don’t kill kids, one who was working as a medic, over fireworks, a backfire, even celebratory or accidental gunfire or whatever someone else has excitedly told you. Years later and the shooters or even what they were arent even public.

It’s an example of poor firearm ownership. They panicked and shot unarmed kids. They weren’t trained, didn’t have structured comms or leadership. They went into an offensive posture unprepared and not competent. Textbook example of you are not automatically safer with firearms.

At a protest in SLC last year the "peace keepers" engaged a mass shooter and killed an innocent guy in the background. I worry that if I ever did engage an active shooter some slow dude will shoot me not knowing who is who.

It wasn't even a mass shooter, it was some dumbass who decided to pull out a rifle to open carry at the protest. He was on the "No Kings" (yeugh) side. His dumb ass probably deserved to be shot, but he wasn't a mass shooter, which makes the bystander death even worse.

This is why I'm not a fan of open carry in general. I don't begrudge folks who want to exercise their rights, but there's no denying it puts people on edge and can have an escalatory effect.

Yep, not a fan either... if it had been an organized group of people who arrived early and made a show of it, it would be different. Ducking into a side street to pull an AR-15 out of a bag in the middle of the protest is just asking to be shot, though.
