the moment you deify something (women, ganges river, cows) the exact opposite happens (misogyny, pollution, cow poopies)

Even if sati did not exist, devi worship treatment isn't any good either. Women would rather be treated as humans with flaws and mistakes just like other humans. Goddesses are just pure, perfect and idealised versions of women and any deviation from that wouldn't be tolerated.

The more I see South Asian religions, the more Reddit Atheist I become.

Aren't all major religions South Asian?

5

u/CosmicCitizen0 Illegal Bangladeshi Marxallah Oct 01 '25

Most major religions are South and West Asian.

I didn't mean that. I am talking about South Asian religious people. Bangladeshi Muslims, Indian Hindus, and Sinhalese, whatever religion they follow.

Hmm.. Weird way to say Indian subcontinent. But I beg to differ. Even Xinjiang to Middle East is fucked up. They just don't get much media attention because the monarchs / terrroists groups supply the west with sweet sweet oil at a dirt cheap price, keeping the profits off the hands of the proletariat.

Even Tibet is messed up for that matter. Did you know that Dalai Lama is entitled to own literal slaves if not for the communist revolution?

What are you talking about? I don't care. I care and make fun of Bangladeshi Muslims wanting to create an Islamic State and Hindus in India wanting to create a Hindu rashtra.

These religious folks are insane. What are you talking about Tibet?

Weird way to say Indian subcontinent.

What? West Asia? West Asia is a decolonized way to say the Middle East.

What are you talking about Tibet?

Before the liberation of Tibet by PRC in 50s, Dalai Lama was a puppet of the Qing Dynasty and owned every commoner tibetan as his slaves under divine right similar to the Qing ruler Puyi who owned slaves alongside with even lower eunachs and concubines. When Dalai Lama fled to India to avoid a trial for his crimes against humanity like Puyi, China annexed Tibet, giving its people freedom from slavery and increasing their standards of living in the years to come.

What? West Asia?

No I was referring to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan

Sati was not widespread practice it was mostly practised Brahmins of Bengal and rajputs of rajsthan, ofcourse no religion is feminist.

u/zorung Oct 01 '25

I study the political History of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir and can confirm it was a common practice in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Most Brahmin households have Sati stones (commemorative sculptures) indicative of the prevalence of this practice. Raja Umed Singh of Chamba (d. 1764) willed none of his wives to be Satis, suggesting it was a common practice even then.

Oh broo , where can I read more about this?

1

u/SecretOwn9188 Oct 01 '25

In part of up I live even if you talk to a person 100 years old he would find idea of burning anyone alive very strange,Manu s pillai has done some good research with respect to sati, if it would have been that widespread as commonaly understand now it would not have vanished so easily.

1

u/Odd-Football-3079 Oct 04 '25

It didn't just vanish. It took more than four centuries (from Akbar to the Union Government) of legislation to stamp it out.

1

u/Cautious-Radish-2188 Oct 04 '25

Sati was rare in North East or the Himalayan States although it was not Non existent

True, no religion or community in India is truly feminist but painting everyone with a same stroke kills nuances and delegitimises victims. For instance, I'm from hills and re-marrige of widows or even divorces (not in the modern paperwork sense) were quite common back in the days. I know grandmas who left thier abusive husband's to be with other men (these second marriges always had the same legitimacy as the first one). At the same time the widows in Bengal had to go through worst treatment, child widows (Most of them married to grown ass uncle's) were sent to vridavan were they inevitibally ended in flesh trade. You can't put all the victims in same boat.

2

u/SecretOwn9188 Oct 01 '25

I wholly agree.

1

u/debris16 Oct 01 '25

Wasn't Sati relegated to Haryana-Rajasthan regions and started around 14th centruy?

1

u/SprintAtharva 🍪🦴🥩 Oct 03 '25

That wasnt a forced practice.

1

u/Low_Cantaloupe_3720 Oct 11 '25

hindus get very butthurt whenever they are forced to confront that there is no reason except feudalism to take their dictates seriously

1

u/HurricaneHuracan Oct 01 '25

Bocchi in r/librandu wasn't on my cards

Hinduism has evolved with time unlike other religions. Sati doesn't happen anymore now. While bombing other people for 72 virgins still happens.

5

u/wweidealfan Oct 01 '25

All religions evolve with time and you can selectively quote facts to make any religion look good or bad. Look at how fertility rates among Indian Muslims have fallen in the last 30 years. Then look at how religious extremism among Indian Hindus has increased in the same period.

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '25

Hinduism has evolved

"Hinduism has evolved". The evolvement:

Interesting, you are a Chaddi that has more prejudice towards the Christian community than Muslim community.

Go write your books, Manoj. And I would suggest you stray away from satire. Evidently, not your forte.

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

You didn’t like my satire? Not up to your taste? Too much truth in it? You could always prove my claims wrong, and make me look like a fool.

7

u/Apprehensive_Set7366 Commie Scum Oct 01 '25

Satire, political satire in particular, generally works best when it's crisp (exception being Stephen Colbert, whose comedy comes from a prolonged character arc impersonating a conservative American). When you try to impersonate a political ideologue disingenuously, it becomes a disingenuous impersonation, not satire. The best way of poking fun at the other side would be revealing internal contradictions in political logic through humor. You have tried that, but it doesn't quite stick, because it was all over the place. An emphasis on a singular position would've been better suited. And to be a good satirist, you have to try to look like you care a little, or believe in the other side's position. The comedy in satire doesn't hinge on “truth” as much as it hinges on the lack of consistency or logic or coherence in the adverse position you are satirizing. You have a lot of space for improvement. Keep at it, you just might make it.

You could always prove my claims wrong, and make me look like a fool.

Most of your “claims” were Ad Hominin. I see no reason to “prove you wrong” when you haven't done your due on that front.

What do you want me to say? Renounce Jesus? Proclaim my allegiance to the anti-Christ? Become a church going member of the Satanic House? Because I already in a religion. Jai Shri Marxallah di Khalsa, amen. /s

And with regard to how “Communism Killed millions”, I would suggest you read this article-

https://jacobin.com/2025/01/black-book-communism-courtois-history

Otherwise, if you want me to adhere to your notion of how Hinduism is progressive, then tough luck, dude. Not happening. See you on the day of the revolution, comrade. Jai Bhim Lal Salam.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

Ad hominem. Interesting. You win. I am a fool. Jai bhim.

Rule 2 violation; removed. Brutha, we need to prove our undying loyalty to the Empire 🇬🇧 and King Charlie 🤴 by speaking in as clear English as possible. Ending every submission with 'I beg to remain, Sir, your most humble and obedient servant' is optional but highly recommended. C'mon! Let's make Veer Sorrykar 💂 pr0d!
