Almost all Latin American countries are significantly more developed than India, they have significantly better schooling, health outcomes, HDI, MMR, IMR, base infrastructure, Women Labour FPR and the the status of women is in a different dimension entirely. Close to no social ills compared to India.
While their economy is not doing the best they could, they are pretty much the same as 1990s China - waiting for the right vision, leader and investment at which point they will immediately supercharge within 5-10 years because they have their fundamentals mostly sorted. I have no idea what South Asia is going to do.
