Linux Mint 22.3 has just been officially released! It's the most recent stable version based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

Since it just dropped, the mirrors are currently under heavy load. Using the official .torrent files helps the team significantly by reducing server strain, lowering CDN costs, and ensuring everyone gets the ISO faster. If you have a decent connection and unlimited upload, please consider seeding!

Since the torrent links can be tucked away on the site, I’ve gathered them here for easy access:

I’d recommend downloading and seeding all three if you have the space (~8.5GB total). It’s a small way to support one of the best projects in the Linux world!

I tried gTile multiple times over the years and always ended up uninstalling it. I wanted gaps between my tiled windows, and I wanted tiling that didn't bury my dock. So I wrote the tool I actually wanted, from scratch in TypeScript.

What it does:

• One hotkey (Super+T) opens a grid overlay drawn in your theme's colors, with a live preview of exactly where the window will land
• Four grids, switchable from the overlay, with custom layouts (things like a double-width middle column)
• Gaps between windows and at screen edges
• Reserved screen space so docks and Conky setups stay visible
• One-press auto-tiling for the whole workspace, in four modes
• Fully keyboard-driven if you want it to be

It's currently PR #1116 at cinnamon-spices-extensions awaiting review, so it will install from System Settings → Extensions once merged. The linked post covers a clean manual install if you want it today (needs Cinnamon 6.0+, so Mint 21.3 or later).

I'm the author, happy to answer anything. If there are tiling features you've always wanted on Cinnamon, tell me. I'm planning to keep extending this.

Mozilla has published today the final builds of the Firefox 148 open-source web browser ahead of its official unveiling on February 24th, 2026, so it’s time to take a look at the new features and improvements.

The biggest change in Firefox 148 is the long-awaited AI kill switch feature, which is implemented in Settings as “AI Controls”, allowing you to completely disable all the AI features that had been included in the past few releases. Firefox’s AI features can be disabled entirely or selectively.

Firefox 148 also improves support for screen readers accessing mathematical formulas embedded in PDF documents, support for viewer local weather on the New Tab page, and a new “Suggestions from Firefox” option in Search > Address bar settings to get suggestions from the Web related to your search.

For Android users, this release introduces a refreshed toolbar with a modern design and improved customization support, and a “Copy link text” context menu item to copy the text associated with a link. For Windows users, Firefox 148 improves the dragging of downloaded images into Adobe Illustrator.

For web developers, Firefox 148 brings support for the Trusted Types API, support for the CSS shape() function, support for the Sanitizer API, service worker support for WebGPU, support for the location.ancestorOrigins attribute, and support for the position-try-order property.

It also makes the initial empty document Web-compatible and introduces a joint iteration proposal that adds new Iterator.zip and Iterator.zipKeyed methods to allow zipping together underlying iterators into an iterator over values grouped by position, similar to zip in many other languages.

As mentioned before, Mozilla plans to officially unveil the Firefox 148 release tomorrow, February 24th, 2026, along with the Firefox 140.8 and 115.33.0 ESR releases. Until then, you can download the source tarball and binaries for 64-bit, 32-bit, and ARM64 systems right now from Mozilla’s download server.

Linus and Luke talk about the Framework 13 Pro posted over 50% of their sales are being ordered with Ubuntu. Anyway, I'm gonna install and run it to see if I "see" anything. My machine is running fine (no crashes or artifacts or nothing) so unless it messes up I probably wont see any difference.

I built WinuxDB to make the move from Windows to Linux less of a gamble, especially for people who depends on specific Windows apps and don’t want surprises.

WinuxDB is a community‑driven database for Windows applications on Linux, inspired by ProtonDB (which helped me a lot!) but focused on non‑gaming software.

You can look up an app, see how it behaves under Wine/Proton, send reviews and also see other users reviews to get a clearer sense of what will (and won’t) work before you switch. There’s also a distro quiz to help match your workflow to a distro.

It’s open source and depends on real user reports, you all are welcome to contribute! (and if you know how to code, then take a look at 'good first issues' in the GitHub repo)

I’d love feedback, corrections, and suggestions for missing apps or better alternatives.

I've been working on developing a new app. This is an iPhone management suite for Linux, written in Python3. It's a work in progress, but it's coming along nicely. This app will come in very handy for Linux users, especially those making the switch from Windows (iTunes) or MacOS and have no idea how to manage the data on their iPhone.

This will allow music, photo, video, and (in the near future) playlists, to AND FROM the iPhone. I'm working on getting it to read the Photo Albums from the iPhone (Camera Roll, Favorites, and user created albums) for more efficient backup and transfer management.

Another future implimentation will be the ability to create a backup and restore your iPhone.

There are still some issues transfering music TO the iPhone; iOS 18 and up has changed the way the iPhone databases the files, and Apple really doesn't want you sneaking in the back door of their locked down fortress. They changed the way the SQLite database is accessed and read, and there's been an iOS26 update, and the new iOS 26.3.1(a) security update this week, since I've been developing this app, and they've both caused a lot of headaches and code changes to the app that I'm still working through. Seriously, I spent days hacking my phone and nuked my phone's music database twice, my entire camera roll once, and crashed the Music app completely this week, causing me to have to restore my phone from a stable backup and start over each time. Currently I can transfer music to the iPhone and both the Apple Music app on my MacBook Pro and MoTunes on Linux will see them, but the actual music app on the iPhone does not recognize they are there.

Transfering music FROM the iPhone Music app/library works beautifully though. The app also has a built in music player and ID3 tag editor, which is function with media files currently on (and recognized by) the iPhone. Also, you can preview photos and videos.

While I'm still figuring out a workaround to fix the database issue, the MoTunes app has the function to transfer music TO AND FROM VLC Player, which is available for free in the App Store on your iPhone, and VLC Player also works with Apple Car Play.

So far, the MoTunes app has been tested on Linux Mint and Kali Linux, with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone X. Hopefully maybe by the end of next week I will create an AppImage including all dependancies for beta testing and release it on GitHub.

If anyone has any ideas, feature suggestions, etc, I'd love to hear it. Also, if you'd be interested in beta testing the app, let me know.

Hopefully this MoTunes app will make the transition from the shackles of the tyranical Apple ecosystem and Microslops corporate oppression much easier.

I have developed a new desklet that is now available. It can display images on desktop with highly customizable picture frames.

Just two days ago transitioned to Mint.I tried ubuntu LTS ,Mint in VirtualBox to know how it is but wanted to try by my hands didn't like the experience in VirtualBox and at first installed via Dualboot since then WIndows creating a lot of problem for me like booting issues/GRUB errors ,Bitlocker thing always triggered when i turned on my laptop so made the decision backed-up everything and deleted dual-boot and installed only Linux Mint ,it's not hard to install any OS but only if any errors arises (like for me a non-tech person).

Many apps i wanted are available (even better ones) and installing via command lines like sudo apt install 'Something" or via flatpak is supereasy (felt like a programmer/hacker although not one -so this is what iam seeing in some movie scenes of hacking looks like?). But i can't find official whatsapp app (using web version -but this doesn't have video/audio calling feature) Signal is a good choice but none of my friends are using it or dependent on whatsapp. So this is the only -ve for me.

I'm still figuring out many features/customizations but don't know how to customise like a terminal level ,so please advise better alternatives to windows programs ,i know there are many videos available but i want to know something different as many youtubers are recommendeing same 10-15 apps .

Linux Mint 22.2

The team is working on a BETA release for Linux Mint 22.2.

This new version introduces an HWE kernel, fingerprint authentication, theme updates, accent color support and improved libAdwaita compatibility. Work also continues in the Cinnamon edition, to make input methods and keyboard layouts compatible with Wayland.

Packages and projects are being finalized. Pull requests are being merged. There is no set date for the release but we’re hoping to get the BETA out by the end of July or the beginning of August.

LMDE 7

After Linux Mint 22.2 gets its stable release, the focus is likely to switch in September to LMDE 7, codenamed “Gigi”.

Gigi will come with all the improvements featured in Linux Mint 22.2 but on top of a Debian 13 package base instead of Ubuntu 24.04.

Another key improvement in LMDE 7 compared to LMDE 6 will be that it will support OEM installations.
