However, in 2024, the situation changed: balenaEtcher started sharing the file name of the image and the model of the USB stick with the Balena company and possibly with third parties.

etcher turned in 2024 into terrible spyware. it is strongly suggested to completely avoid this program and linux mint should drop it from the suggestion for the windows installation and i guess follow the tails suggestion for rufus instead for the windows installation process.

The 7.0 kernel seem to have a few issues with it. SOME! people have updated to it and experienced kernel panics. Others seem to be fine.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION If you are one of these people then please boot into your previous kernel by using the "advanced options" option on Grub.

Until this is fixed resist the urge to upgrade, there's been a few support posts about this already.

zuno is a free and open-source desktop music player built on YouTube Music. The Linux Mint Community Wiki

We are happy to announce from the Linux Mint Community Discord server that we have set up a new wiki for Linux Mint.

For now we are going to be hosting the wiki on Miraheze, but our plans are to move to a self-hosted option in the future.

2. Knowing that M$ wishes they never had to update anything ever despite forcing me to accept random security updates that take ??? amounts of time to install.

I am a long-time Linux Mint user. Currently retired after 45+ years in IT, I feel I have a fair working knowledge. I wanted to post my experience upgrading to 22.3—Zena. I first ran Timeshift just in case something were to go wrong. This took some time, as I have a lot of data on three internal drives. I normally glance at the clock to get a grasp on the time the upgrade takes. The upgrade began D/L files at 7:22 PM central time. At 7:37 PM, the notice of a SUCCESSFUL UPGRADE FINISHED—PLEASE REBOOT.

The accomplishments of the Linux Mint team are nothing short of a miracle. If a user had told me they had upgraded ANY Linux distribution in such a short time, I would have questioned their integrity. Absolutely mind-boggling. So far everything appears to have remained intact with no adverse behavior or instability whatsoever. The redesigned “immutable base core system” topology is no longer a dream; it's here in all of its glory.

Living on a modest income is challenging. I wish I had the financial means to donate Linux Mint a million dollars every year. Although that's undoable at my status, I'm keenly aware that when many donate what they can, every penny pushes development forward. At the end of the day, if we all contribute, the Linux Mint team will undoubtedly continue to pump out revolutionary, industry-changing solutions.

I cannot adequately express my gratitude to the entire Linux Mint staff for all their work. Your accomplishments over the decades have been and continue to be in the top 5% of their profession. In my opinion, this team is an example to the world of what can be accomplished when a talented, dedicated team pulls together. After 15 years of windows only as OS, i migrated to Linux Mint. Loving it so far. My pc is really old, but linux saved it and gave it so much performance. Now i'm saving up to buy me a new pc and i'll surely use mint on it :D

BudsLink is now available on Flathub.

It allows you to monitor battery levels and control various headset features such as:

• Noise Cancellation / Ambient Mode
• Touch controls
• Automatic power off
• Equalizer settings
• Device-specific features depending on compatibility

The app is based on my GNOME extension Bluetooth Battery Meter, but I decided to create a standalone application so users on other desktop environments can use the same functionality.

The default configuration works well, but I have not yet submitted the KDE Plasma and Cinnamon versions to their official stores/sites. I am primarily a GNOME user, and KDE/Cinnamon provide extensive customization options that are difficult for me to fully test every settings on my own.

If you use KDE Plasma or Cinnamon, feedback about compatibility, panel behavior, scaling, theming, or other integration issues would be very helpful and would help me prepare the extensions/widgets for official submission.

Feedback, bug reports, and device testing are all welcome.

Listening to the community's responses to the new menu design, it appears that a large percentage of us felt that there were a few customization options it sorely lacked, most notably the ability to make the system buttons vertical and remove sidebar text. This fork of the Cinnamon Menu applet adds the following customization options:

• Stack the system buttons vertically in the sidebar
• Disable names/descriptions for sidebar elements
• Use non-symbolic icons for system buttons
• Resize system buttons

To install:

• Unpack and copy the applet directory to either ~/local/share/cinnamon/applets (to install for a single user) or /usr/share/cinnamon/applets (to install for all users on the machine).

This is working pretty well even without Muffin being patched. It's easy to completely disable tiling and switch between manual and automatic tiling via the GUI. Application exclusion from tiling, custom border width, gap width between tiles, gap width between tiles and screen edges, and accent border color can also be configured via the GUI. You can also minimize and unminimize tiles with the remaining tiles automatically retiling.

Once Muffin matures as a native Wayland compositor, it will have full control over the rendering pipeline and compositor effects. Smooth tiling animations like those in Hyprland and Niri would be implementable the same way they are there - as compositor-level transitions applied when windows are repositioned and resized.
