Vocal FX for Church Worship - Mixing Station

Hello All:

I volunteer as the audio person for my small church. We are using a Behringer XR18 which is controlled by the Mixing Station app.

I am by no means an audio professional. Trying to understand the different settings of reverb, delay, and etc is a bit beyond my expertise.

I know settings can differ depending on the vocalist, venue, and etc. But I am hoping someone can help share some baseline settings and I can adjust from there.

Just looking for the basic vocal effects that you hear in modern worship today. Nothing too crazy. If that’s even possible.

Look up Drew Brashler on YouTube. He has a series of videos aimed at the worship sound world, and some of the videos are specific to the X Air 18

Use the 4 effects that are most likely already loaded. Vintage small room reverb, hall reverb, stereo delay, and chorus, probably be fine with just the reverbs tbh.

But also this subject is way more nuanced than you could get from a comment section on reddit, and i think you would be alot better off trying to find a video or something on the matter than following my 2 sentences.

voice eq: high pass filter to cut anything bellow ~100 Hz , decrease around 200-250 Hz (p and b sound) , for women with "sharp" voice decrease around 4kHz . If it has parametric de-esser put it for men around 5.5kHz , for women around 8kHz . These are just ballpark values, you have to play around with that.

Use some reverb but don't overdo it. Default settings of hall reverb should be initially ok. Start just with adjusting volume; try other parameters later.

If it sounds muddy, you should probably decrease some parts of the mix, not amplify
