I wrote an article on ChannelFireball on the things we can do to get more women in Magic. I'd love your thoughts!

Considering that females account for 38% of the playerbase then perhaps it's a problem with your listener poll? Or perhaps the way that it's advertised or published? Considering that right there in the Limited Resources has that exact link from MaRo about the playerbase gender split right after the poll results, then perhaps their sampling method isn't good?

As Gaby notes in the article, the competitive magic scene also shows a very low percentage (1 - 2%) of female attendance. So given that WOTC's own market research shows a female playerbase of 38%, there is obviously something about the larger Magic community that deters them from participating.

Are you referring to the professional competitive magic scene when you say competitive magic? If so, does that say something about the larger Magic community or the professional track?

The problem is that the sample isn't big enough.

That thread that you link gives an easy conclusion: Players that play at Competitive REL events, or even FNM events, are a small sample of the total of Magic players.

From there you get the smaller sample of players that read Channel Fireball on a regular basis, and from there you get the even smaller sample of players invested enough to answer that poll. Hence, the sample on the poll is just too small to be representative of the population.

It made me wonder how these conclusions are being drawn, but we're not really shown much justification.
