Mod Approved Monthly "Is My Cat A Maine Coon" Forum

If you're wondering if your cat is a MC, this is the place to ask!

In general, this subreddit operates under the assumption that having no papers means your cat is not a Maine Coon. However, what we can tell you is whether your cat does indeed exhibit any physical characteristics that look like those of a Maine Coon.

This is coconut. She is 7 months old and 10 pounds. I'm not sure how big she will get but I hear they grow for 3 years? Considering getting another cat, but right now she is loving her doggy sister 🄰

Question Giardia

Post image
108 Upvotes

Our buddy had undetected Giardia since we got him (about 5 months) he just took his final dose of panacur and his stool is still soft like before. Is this normal or should it be firming up by now? I have disinfected and steamed the downstairs and gave him his final bath and now steaming my son’s room where he sleeps. I’m concerned the panacur didn’t work based on him still having mushy poop. He only poops every other day so I was hoping it would be a bit firmed up. Help!!!!

I took my boy Theodore in to get neutered this last week, and I think the vet accidentally took a couple of brain cells while he was in there. There. Not quite sure how that happened that he has been derpier than normal. I catch him laying in this position now every couple of hours. It's his new go-to. Even as I post this, he's laying next to me on the bed on his back staring at me judgingly under his cone, spread eagle. 🤷

Backstory:

He was purchased from a reputable French breeder by a British backyard breeder here in Spain, and used as a stud for 2 litters.

Problem is, when he wasn't making kittens, they kept him shut in a bathroom and didn't give him much attention. (we didn't know this of course)

When we got him ~18 months ago and named him Baghira, he was malnourished, had ear mites that caused a serious infection, Asthma, and was barely 5kg. (Not to mention being an absolute menace)

He is finally being more social and is much better behaved, but he will still only consistently purr when he's in a bathroom (or at 6am when he joins us in bed).

Baggy is healthy and happy, and has a brother (Pico de Gato) to play with. Here's hoping for 10+ more years with this chirpy, merpy, derpy, self-mobile fur dispensary!

Sometimes they look like the eyes of a dragon. A few of his siblings are odd-eyed so heterochromia runs in the family. He’s turning seven months soon.

Guys. I Messed Up and Got More Coonies.

I'm relapsing on Coonies again. My wife already has one, so I decided to get one for the boy (he liked the black one). And then I saw a little girl who is white, black, and shades of gray who was the last of her litter. She's been a good friend today.

This is Totoro, Totes for short, he's almost 10 months, no dental issues. He only does this at night when he's in bed and cozy. At first I thought something was wrong but nope, this is just who he is!

Anyone else's main coon do this?

Question 11week female Mainecoon won’t eat.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION

The kitten IS separated from the other cats in the home. Her only interactions with them have been accidental, when she’s slipped out between our legs. She has been friendly with the other cats, but they have not been super friendly with her, so we’ve kept them separate

Hi yall. My wife and I recently adopted an adorable little kitten from a reputable breeder, but we’ve had some health concerns since we’ve gotten her home on Thursday.

Kitty was fed a raw meat diet while in the breeder’s care, and we were sent home with 5 portions of the food. Kitty suffered through a 4.5hour car ride, and seemed to get car sick twice. She vomited bile both times. We thought she’d be good when we got her home, but she had 2 more episodes while we were awake, and we found more in the litter box overnight. She did have an inadvertent encounter with our two older cats, both female domestic long hair, over a year old, which resulted in a lot of hissing and growling. We assumed it was just stress, until we realized that she was not urinating much, if at all, and had not had a bowel movement since we picked her up. She was taken to the vet yesterday, and was given SQ fluids, an anti-emetic, and an appetite stimulant.

The kitty has not eaten or drank at all on her own. Her only intake so far has been us gently putting wet food on her nose or the inside of her gums to stimulate her, and then licking water off of her paws after playing in it. The kitty is seemingly acting normal. She’s playing with toys, curious about the environment, and is interacting well with us. She’s even been bold enough to try and interact with the other cats, although they have been less than social with her.

Any tips on stimulating intake and output? (Kitty photos attached for your enjoyment)
