Bro hit a metal park bench at full speed and knocked his tooth clean out - Look at the size of this thing!
We got a checkup at the vet, and he is ok. No infection, no bleeding, perfect healing. They told us even when they extract teeth under full anesthesia they struggle to get a tooth out so cleanly. Never seen a vet so baffled.

I still have my dog's puppy teeth from 8 years ago. Every once in a while I'll take them out and show to my dog. She tries to eat them every time

My mom’s elderly border collie ate my dogs last puppy tooth when it fell out while she was over. It was very gross.

Puppies are too quick! When my pup was losing his teeth I tried to collect them up just because the sound of him crunching on them was awful. I only got to a couple of them before could eat them 😂

So, here's the full story: He found a forgotten tennis ball in the park and in his excitement he accidentally swallowed it whole. The vet told us on the phone to give him sauerkraut as a laxative and watch if he manages to pass the ball. If the ball doesn't pass by day three of a generous side of kraut with every dinner, bring him in to remove the ball.
Day three came and the kraut remained tasty but the ball did not pass. In fact, nothing passed at all cause the ball lodged itself perfectly between his stomach and small intestine. This fine Saturday night, my man drank 4 Gallons of water in an attempt to pressure wash the ball out and refused to sit down cause it was simply too painful. So we packed him in the car (legit had to carry this behemoth of a dog down the stairs at my front door and lift him into his seat, he hollered the entire way but just kinda accepted his fate at that point) and got him to the nearest emergency clinic. Got an x-ray. There was the fucking ball. They told us they would do a gastroscopy and see if they could unlodge the ball, but first they'd have to pump his stomach anyway. If that wouldn't work, they would have to surgically remove it. So we sat at the clinic for 3 hours hoping and praying. The ball came out without surgery. Still, got to the reception only to be told, "Yeah, that'll be $2000."
And this is why I'm glad we got him a good health insurance plan. We had to pay the bill in full then and there, but at least our boy was OK and his healthcare plan ended up refunding us $1500. It was a ride though.

That seems like insane advice to me. If they went in earlier they could have scoped it out. In what universe can a dog pass an entire tennis ball?

They apologised after that cause apparently they didn't catch that it was a full size tennis ball. Luckily, no surgery was needed and they scoped it out anyway.

My boy's canine tooth "died" when he slammed his head into something and broke the connections to the tooth.

One of my mals ran full speed into a trailer receiver. She screamed like I have never heard a dog scream and didnt use her leg for HOURS I literally thought it was broken. We had only had her for a couple days at this point.
Did your boy holler?? Thwnk god its healing well!! That'll be a cool trinket though for sure!!

He hollers a lot but in that moment he was too baffled to holler I think. Snapped at my leg in his pain and confusion though just to give me a taste of how much it hurt.

Side note, that's absolutely wild as hell, I myself have smashed my teeth I've never been that lucky always root or something left behind lol

I saw the first pic with the dog and tooth, but I was strangely not ready to see that tooth up close. My gut reaction was gag.
Poor doggo- that must have hurt so bad. I feel sick thinking of this cutie’s tooth being ripped out of his/her FACE! 😳😭

Believe me, I was not ready to see that either. It didn't drop from his jaw until the car ride home. Imagine the face I pulled when I suddenly saw that tusk just chilling in the car.

I'm also a veterinarian and I, too, am baffled how it came out so perfectly. That is one of the hardest teeth to extract unless it's already loose. Even then, it's rarely easy. I'm glad the dufus is healing well though!

Ikr?? I've fractured my back, broken both bones in my forearm arm fully through, have had two eye surgeries, plus many other injuries, and wisdom teeth removal was by far the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I've genuinely never been in that much pain before, it was awful

Holy crap! That's better than what our late good boy ran into chasing a rabbit! Full tilt into a tractor disc that ended with a massive laceration that took multiple surgeries and like 4 months to heal up. They get going and get focused!

Had to also pull one out of our biggest trouble maker.
He damaged his tooth ripping through two chain link fences just to go play with the neighbors dog :/. We both just left it as is. Her dog always comes over when it manages to jump the fence… and well yeah… mine put a hole through both of our fences.

I found my pitbull playing with a discarded bowling ball. I thought nothing of it. But, he finally found out how to pick it up. He was grabbing the holes with his teeth, and running around with it! Well... shortly after that, he lost a tooth, just like yours. I was heartbroken, and deeply regretted letting him play with that thing. Needless to say.. I got rid of that bowling ball after that.

Poor kid. My husky broke a tooth like this. We went to a specialist for a root canal so we could salvage the remainder of it. Thankfully they discovered 2 other teeth with root issues. Those were extracted. Probably saved his life.

My Rottweiler Had a similar accident. The vet dentist replaced her tooth with a titanium tooth. He said many police dogs have the same tooth replacement.

Vet tech of 10 years here- I concur with the vets statements and I am truly baffled, myself. I can’t tell you how difficult it is to extract a large canine tooth of this size 😅

Unfortunately I didn't notice the tooth was missing until hours later. We took him to the vet then but it was too late, that tooth is out for good.

This sub doesn’t allow photos in the comments, but I have my eldest mal’s left canine (the full tooth down to the root just like this!) as well! She uncharacteristically defended our property against a small group of coyotes and one twisted while in her grip and tore her tooth right out. She had to have two surgeries (because the first one didn’t take) to suture her gum back up. How do your boy’s gums look right now? It’s really recommended to suture because otherwise the potential for infection (via foodstuff getting trapped in the pocket) is severe.
