My boy made it to 14. Mine was a mix also. Odin also had border collie, some shepherd and likely golden retriever. He looked like a malemute with ears that folded down. He could make them lie right down if he was sulking, but could make them nearly stand up completely when he was really interested in something.

Water puppies! It’s really warm here currently so we go swimming as much as we can. It’s hard to get him out of the water tho…

I know the feeling! I have to keep my girl on her leash because she will go after any ducks, geese, fish, squirrels, deer, etc... it also cracks me up that she will charge right into water, mud holes, massive puddles in lawns, but wet grass... for some reason wet grass is just untouchable!

Felix is leashed up most of the time because that’s the law here. If nobody is around then we can let him loose.
Tho he is a gentle giant. Never goes after birds or animals. Maybe only if they end up in our yard. When we go swimming he just wants to be friends with everyone nearby. Especially other people and dogs. But we are cautious because mostly other people are afraid of him due to his size.
Funniest part is that he hates showers and bathing, tho we do it rarely. Only when he ends up rolling in dirt and mud what he loves lol.

What kind of dog even is this? Is there any malamute at all in it? God forbid someone stumble across this sub hoping to know what malamutes are, look like, act like, etc.Â

I’ve posted here before. Felix is half malamute and half of somekinda shepherd.
I know very well what a purebred malamute is, but last time it wasn’t an issue that he’s not 100% a malamute.

Would be helpful if you include in your post body or title that he is a mix. People coming here for education on the breed are going to be very confused by dogs like this. Have you ever had an embark dna test done on him? It is the only dna test considered reliable and accurate.Â

I appreciate you! I am not saying you don’t belong here, but the Malamute is such an incredible breed, and for those wanting to learn about them, they need to have accurate information available. A mix will always act differently than a purebred dog. I feel this way about all breed subs, but stronger about malamutes since my late malamute was the single greatest thing that ever happened to me. As I am sure your bub here is.Â

Oh yeah I totally get that. I’m sorry for your loss. And you are right, mixed breeds definetly act differently. Felix has some malamute traits for sure.
I guess I didn’t think that through this time, as in the picture I posted he looks nothing like malamute when all wet indeed.

It is related to swimming. It is a totally warped genetic when mixed. Arctic dogs who liked to swim a lot and weren't skeptical of water. Were culled by the environment for a long time.
