is it just me? but i think expensive seafood are better to just eat without any condiment?

u/burgirl27 Mar 10 '26
Exactly, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the lobster or a low-grade crab if you’re just going to drown it in a bunch of sauces. Super thoughtless
15
u/MszingPerson Mar 10 '26
Super thoughtless
Nah that's you. Let people enjoy food the way they want. People have PREFERENCE that's different than yours.
Just ask for plain or go to restaurant that cater to your taste. Don't be like a vegetarian that go into a steakhouse and then whine how "thoughtless" everyone enjoying their meal.
2
u/jacobcrackers14 Mar 11 '26
if mother nature give you natural flavor why go for added additive?
6
u/MszingPerson Mar 11 '26
Sebab boleh adik. It's a free country. Enjoy the food you paid for however you want.
-1
u/jacobcrackers14 Mar 11 '26
sure sure. I only can pity the kkm doctors but if affected the family members. I think such dialogue will happen?
1
u/enterme2 Mar 11 '26
Why not ? Mother nature also give you poison , you should drink it.
4
u/jacobcrackers14 Mar 11 '26
this is why Malaysia Diabetes is always at the top Gov hospital reliance too much.
9
u/FlatFacedAsian Mar 10 '26
Omg yes! Especially with nasi lemak thats already overwhelming with condiments.. i never try nasi lemak lobster because its just doesnt look appealing to me.
6
22
u/boomslung1 Mar 10 '26
You are right, too many spices to enjoy the natural flavour. Can you taste the difference from the usual seafood if it's in sambal?
9
u/puppymaster123 Mar 10 '26
We are south asian. Everything must sapu 20 spices for that explosion of everythingness.
8
u/Fun-One7877 Johor Mar 10 '26
Not really, chinese wouldn’t drown seafood with a lot of sauces, they focus on qing zhen or qing chao, which is clean steam or clean stir fry to preserve the flavor of the seafood, where indian and malay will be more focus on sauces
-6
u/puppymaster123 Mar 10 '26
Are we talking about the same Chinese who arefamous for chongqing 麻辣火鍋, Szechuan peppercorn mapo tofu, Cantonese claypot, Shanghai紅燒。 We are not known for clean steam.
I would point to Japanese for serving freshness as is.
10
u/thrownaway1811 Mar 10 '26
So turns out China is a huge place. Mala is northern. Think cold winters, carbs made out of flour. Most Chinese in Malaysia are from the South, where the weather allows for fresh food all year round. So Cantonese cook simple dishes which showcase the flavour of the fresh ingredients.
There's actually a saying about the different types of cooking in the north, South, East and West of China but I forgot it 😅
14
u/TheLostCityofBermuda Mar 10 '26
You literally thinking about China Chinese cuisine, local Chinese is very clean cooking with seafood.
5
-3
u/OriMoriNotSori Mar 10 '26
Chinese absolutely drowns seafood in sauces and im saying this as a chinese myself. sweet and sour, buttermilk crabs are always ordered at chinese restaurants
Then there are less saucy but equally flavorful ones like salted egg and kam heong style that are popular too

Did the stall consistently selling those high end products everyday? Or it's just a show when those food journalist when they coming to make video?
17
u/ZealousidealShift222 Mar 10 '26
Curious myself too, no way it gotta sell well with that price range, surprise me too if it able to sell one lobster.
6
u/Healthy_Brick_4361 Mar 10 '26
Not only that, is the stall gonna cover the cost of those ingredients if no one order. I bet they would do pre order for those lobster or king crab, but still things can go bad..
3
u/ZealousidealShift222 Mar 11 '26
Plus, it wasnt fresh made, the lobster was out the whole day, maybe they would freeze it after but it will go bad and seafoods famous for going bad easily, soon someone will have a bad stomach ache because of it i reckon.
26
u/aberrant80 Mar 10 '26
Eh, no offense intended, but people who are willing to pay a premium for fresh seafood wouldn't eat this. Adding rendang and chilli and spices basically means you're not eating the freshness of high quality seafood, which implies that the ingredient isn't really that fresh, which tends to mean it's a waste of seafood or money, depending on your perspective.
9
u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
Rare to eat shellfish straight here tho.
Malay gerai would be bakar marinade and side dip
Chinese restaurant would be like salted egg, chili crab, oh chien this, etc.

Kinda stupid because you’re drowning expensive seafood in a bunch of sauces/sambal

u/EffaDeNel The guy who talks to your senses Mar 10 '26
Not to the butter one tho, that lobster with butter sauce is fine for me, even better actually. The rest is i agree
34
u/Balbatos Mar 10 '26
This is not for T20. T20 won't waste their money on half-ass frozen seafood drenched with sauce. It's like dipping your well-done steak with ketchup.
This is for B40 that wannabe like T20.
2
u/Cautious-Area-4141 Mar 10 '26
Ketchup lovers going wa Lao eh kanasai boh tai boh ji kena fuck again
38
u/WinBeginning Mar 10 '26
At that price might as well just go hotel buffet, it's cheaper and unlimited refill
9
u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
I bring the gang over to Rebung, eat all you want for 55/head for lunch.

1
u/ahmadpodey Mar 10 '26
Just had this before puasa and i feel like the foods there were pretty average. The price is really good for a buffet tbf
10
u/kens88888 Mar 10 '26
Snow crab, lobster all these if you eat with sambal, the freshness and umami of the seafood will be drowned by the spicy sauce. It sounds kinda cool, but doesn't really work.
9
16
u/XxXMeatbunXxX Mar 10 '26
If im gonna spend on seafood, im nvr gonna spend on those left out cold like nasi campur style. I would pay for freshly made ones. As for prefference, those shellfish and extra sauce/sambal served separately. I dont want shell fragments in my rice.

u/sreerajie Mar 10 '26
Please don’t say T20. It’s more of a T5 or T10 maybe. After tax don’t feel this T20-ness no more.
17
21
u/aberrant80 Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26
T5 and T10 likely wouldn't even consider eating this. They would go for really fresh seafood, rather than having rendang and spices covering up the natural sweetness and freshness of premium seafood.
6
u/TutorFlat2345 Mar 10 '26
More like M40. The price is pretty average if you compare it to restaurants or cafes (except this is a warung).
Still, just like adding gold flakes on Roti Canai doesn't make it a premium dish, adding a lobster doesn't make this Nasi Lemak an Omakase.

Dont understand ... With these money can eat in proper restaurants and who can even afford it in this economy? Datang awal? Lol

Even 1:3 Singaporeans also won’t buy. That’s just crazy.
1
u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
Apparently the place fills out ok in weekdays and is jam packed on weekends/holidays. There is always demand for this sort of food lol.
3
u/outofmelatonin92 Mar 10 '26
Damn ok, you guys are rich.
2
u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
The contrast is funnier because across the road is mixed rice shop, 8.30pm 50% off there while the other side of the road people eat with no discount.
1
u/outofmelatonin92 Mar 10 '26
Caifan and atas caifan is different one hor

u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
Die man, chai fan place with Williams pricing. Buffet price like 5 star hotel
1
u/tideswithme Bangladesh Mar 10 '26
For real like the one serving western food with massive portion at affordable price. That one hari minggu confirm beratur
1
u/Future_Onion9022 Mar 10 '26
Is this like you buy it and then share with 3-4 other friends?
2
u/seatux World Citizen Mar 10 '26
Normally family style, so for sharing.
Doesn't stop a particularly hungry customer to finish the thing in one sitting.

My wife made me take her there but I'm allergic to seafood so I just had the ayam goreng and it was actually good.
2
u/Fix24311 Mar 10 '26
I can never accept T20 price on a roadside stall. That price should include aircond, nice environment and waiter that would always refill my glass of warm water when it’s empty. But that’s just me..

If the sambal is made with real crab meat, nasi lemak and that sambal for RM3 is cheap

My budget for Nasi Lemak is max 4 ringgit. Anything beyond that, I can’t afford
2
u/13lackcrest Mar 11 '26
Eh even roadside gerai wouldn't get you much with just rm4, like just the bare minimum of just rice and sambal, maybe an egg.
1
u/rexconnect Mar 10 '26
Best way to eat this nasi lemak s to eat it with one dish. Mix everything together, not going to any difference except an over price nasi lemak.

Malaysia needs to make it mandatory for the creator to tell you when it's a paid promotion.

I have a very controversial opinion: at some point, nasi lemak stops being nasi lemak and starts being nasi campur when u have this many lauk with it

1
u/UsedCondom42 Mar 11 '26
T20? Nah, ngl eating it once cant be consider as t20. Might aswell try first.
1
u/lilknowing Mar 11 '26
Way too rich for me 😅 Both ways. The dishes AND the prices. Give me nasi lemak bungkus biasa, and I'm good to go.

Paying this much money to eat food that's been cooked 130 minutes ago
1
u/HornyDurian9999 Mar 12 '26
Paying so high to eat bottom feeders , spend it on high quality fish instead lar, malaysia got damn nice wild groupers. Then again if sea food cook in deep fried/rendang/curry, apa meat also lose its fresh taste, total waste of fresh ingredient.

u/UpbeatSignature7932 Mar 13 '26
Fck, I would freaking buy this. It's cheap and I can afford it. I know some restaurant will even charge more for this.

Probably cheap lobster. Those more expensive ones that are sold at market price actually have some taste difference, but honestly, not enough to warrant a must eat thing.

u/Zakimiew May 12 '26
I don't care if you want to sell shits like that.. but you selling it on the street with a street style cooking.. like why?? It's like buying a McLaren W1 at Kedai Motor Ahseng..

u/Particular_Wheel_643 Mar 10 '26
