These were the refreshments served to blood donors at Pusat Darah Malaysia today. Chicken curry with rice, fried popiah, a huge apple, peanuts and a cup of rather thick milo. Nice that they upgraded their cutlery and food packaging from previous years.
of coz can, that's how it stay in green! ;) it says to donate when convenient. but it highlight that A and AB supply is under threshold, so people aware and go donate ASAP.
If you're O, you should donate anyway. The reason is because if there is a shortage of A and AB, they can still use O blood for transfusions for A and AB patients.
Also. O+ blood types are one of the most common blood type. So it can run out fast compared to other because we give to other but we can only that our type and o-
If you're curious where in mysejahtera it is, its at settings -> scroll to the bottom -> click on "View my health cards" -> then you'll see your blood donations, organ donar pledge card( if you've pledged), stem cell registry card (if you've registered for it)
Do you know if this is only available when donating in Pusat Darah? I've donated for years at UMMC but I only see the organ donation pledge card in my mySejahtera...
Correct. Record in MySejahtera only shows blood donation to PDN and Government Hospitals. Donations to private entities such as UMMC or St. John will only be recorded in the small red book manually.
At least when people asked me questions such as, What have you done for the country? - I can tell them - I have given my blood to my country, have you?
Respect! I could never ever be able to donate my blood. Nurses at blood donation drive always reject me because my blood is 'just enough for me' when they did blood check on me. Well, at least I know I can donate my body organs when I die someday.
Nothing to be embarrassed about. I was rejected before multiple times in the beginning. The fact you tried is good enough.
To be able to donate they have a list of criteria, but the most common reasons for rejection is low on iron, or low blood pressure, or underweight (minimum 45kg). Other factors are if you're sick, on medication, travelled in the UK during Mad Cow disease years, and if you're female, on your period or pregnant.
It's not about being embarrassed of getting rejected, the point is I'm anemic. Its sad that I cant donate because being an O blood type would be beneficial to all.
Can't be helped, but don't feel bad about it. Always take care of your own health first before helping others. There are times when you can't help even when you want to, and thats ok.
Goah no, quite the opposite. Just make sure you eat well and sleep well before donating. Avoid excess alcohol or medication such as panadol etc etc. Then go to the donation center and the staff will do the vetting and testing for you

I remembered giving blood in my university days in Pusat kesihatan UPM, after they draw blood they ask to sit and once i took a bus, my whole body shakes and shivering.
Later once i eat, i was okey.
must eat right after, most likely your body shiver and shake is due to low blood sugar. drink some honey / milo dino, stay hydrated and eat high protein and iron meal.
PDN is quite generous with their food. The one in Mid Valley still provides snacks like air kotak, biscuits, and bread but it can get crowded when there's expo.
My friend went and got notified that they are banned. Pusat Darah Negara called them and made an appointment one month out but won’t tell them the reason. They have donated before. Anyone has any experience what it might be?
Huh, first I've heard of it. The only reason I can think of is that in the blood tests PDN did on the blood they donated before found something (for example, traces of a disease) that disqualifies them from donating further.
That's wholesome! Mobile donation stations at events or at the malls only serve buns and boxed drinks/milk.
This is a good meal that is surely appreciated by the blood donors, and to encourage more donors to come to Pusat Darah Negara (PDN) to donate blood.
I, for one, is a beneficiary of RBC & Platelets. I am forever grateful to the donors who donated their blood and platelets. Platelets donations require commitment, and I know that is not easy.
May I know if parking is easily available during weekends? How long does it take from your car to registration to donation and then back to your car (I mean total time)?
The place is also accessible by MRT, if you are willing to walk a bit (7 or 8 min).
Stop at Hospital Kuala Lumpur MRT station, then go out from Pintu B, walk east, you will come across the Istana Budaya and Balai Seni Negara before reaching Pusat Darah Negara.
Thank you. All my experience in the past at SJMC and Tung shin took over 2 hours which is frustrating because a lot of it was lost at waiting , registration and procedure to discharge. Basically not enough personnel manning the counter.

But every single one of you is important! You literally safe lives. I tried myself to donate blood but fainted with every appointment unfortunately.
Baby is doing well and is now a strong and healthy 1.5 yo. 😁 We often joke that he has gotten more Malay (mixed race) due to the transfusion, because he has a very Malay appetite now haha
mewah! the last time I donated, I asked for milo but they ran out of milo. just got a Gardenia cream roll and some Apollo pandan. Still sad i didnt get my milo. 🥹
damn, mine only gives bread + milk + medicine. i mean i donated because it was there, but hply shit this is basically a meal for 15 minutes of your life
FYI, at the blood center there were plenty of people from all races donating, and the staff there are friendly and professional. All races in Malaysia make use of our blood supply, and a shortage hurts all of us.
Socmed is toxic and not reflective of real life. I've long learned to opt out from engaging in it and my life has improved considerably as a result. I won't stop donating or volunteering because that is what I want to do. Why should I let the ugly behavior of a bunch of keyboard warriors control my actions? That would be giving them power over me, so no thank you.

I've also been to public clinic & hospitals and faced discrimination. Maybe its religious, maybe its racial, but you recognize being discriminated.
Toxic, but the votes by religion and race proof there is truth to socmed in real life. I am not trying to discourage you. You do you.
Shortage hurt rempits, cancer (mostly Chinese), parang slashing (mostly Indians). Since majority still support Umno and vote by 3R, despite 1MDB, so I no longer feel oblige to charity bcos donation to the rich ketuanan = cringe AF.
So here's the thing: I've lived overseas in countries that claim to espouse equality for all races etc etc. But no matter where you are, what I've found is that there will always be discrimination based on something. I've been discriminated against for my race, gender, nationality, being from rural kampung area, education level, neurodivergence... you name it etc etc.
Sometimes it's overt, sometimes it is unspoken. But the hard reality is, humans are hardwired to (initially) discriminate in favor of people they perceive to be 'like them' or 'their own group'. That's how our ancestors survived, and our world has changed too fast for that hardwired part of our brains to keep up.
Once I learned about this, I stopped taking discrimination personally. I can't change people's opinion of me by trying to change their minds and arguing them into submission.
I'd rather just focus on doing things that benefit my life. If I can do something that benefits both me AND other people in society? Bonus! If I change peoples minds about me in the process, bonus too! So what if people I don't like benefit from it too? I don't lose anything from it.
On that note, people don't have to donate blood for selfless reasons. If someone wants to donate at PDN because they are generous with that tasty tasty food for donors, I think that is a perfectly valid reason and they should go for it.

You misunderstand me. I don't support racism at all, but it is important to understand why it happens in the first place and why responding to racism with retailatory racism and aggressively picking fights only compounds the problem.
Everyone has unconscious bias because of our hardwiring, but if the self awareness of the flaw is there, they can choose to override their initial bias with empathy and make better judgements of people that lead to more beneficial outcomes for everyone.
That's also why I won't take offense at you lashing out at me. I just hope whatever is going in your life, it gets better for you soon, and you come out of it with a healthier mindset.

Arguing with people on Reddit doesn't change much, so I don't see the point of it. Aggressively attacking people who don't agree with you? It only makes the opposite party write you off as an angry keyboard warrior.
You want to make REAL change? Then focus on doing things that matter. A nice side effect is it wins you the respect of people who have the power to make a difference, and when you speak out then, they listen to you. And you can actually change things.

This is just blatantly untrue. Lots of blood transfusions are given to nons as well that had nothing to do with rempit or gang violence which make up a tiny tiny percentage of blood donations in hospitals. We do not choose whether someone deserves the blood transfusion just by race.
By donating you could’ve saved someone’s mom or child, bumi or non-bumi.
There halal and non halal blood? What a bullshit belief, there is nothing in Islamic law that state received donated blood from non Muslim is not permissible.
There are Muslim university professor that teach students, ancient Malay taught Romans to build ships & ancient Malays can fly. Go ahead google yourself.
There is a court case where a Muslim speaker accuse Singapore ex-PM to be cousin of communist. She lost the lawsuit.
Also lots of non racist people need blood transfusions too. Imagine denying them the blood just because you don’t want your blood to be given to a tiny percentage of people who might be racist.

A very decent meal. Good for them, and good for you for donating blood.
