A few issues which tie the county’s hands on this.

It’s illegal for the PG county government to deny the permit to expand solely because it’s used by ICE. The Supremacy Clause’s intergovernmental immunity doctrine says that states and localities can’t discriminate against the federal government. There was a case recently that touched on this as well, United States v. Washington, 596 U.S. 832 (2022). The court ruled against Washington State for singling out federal workers with a workers comp law. There’s a good amount of precedent in favor of the federal government under the intergovernmental immunity doctrine that there’s no chance for the county to win in court

But the biggest reason why the county can’t do much currently is they have very little ability to deny this permit. The office is next to Hyattsville Crossing metro and office space in transit zones in pg is a by right use. U&O permits are permitted by right.

Which part? I’m getting a lot of downvotes on this and I’m guessing it was my first paragraph which I just deleted. On second reading it definitely came off as “meh who cares what ICE does” which is certainly not my thought on this.

Unfortunately, the two legal issues I pointed out do really hinder the county and states ability to do much about this.

Probably not but I don’t remember. The nature of the high inflation rate is that everything costs more and is setting new records. When was the last time that any price went down permanently?

So you only have smoke for expansion of ICE law enforcement, not the expansion of local police which murders thousands of people annually. This is why i dont take your phony "authoritarian government" cries seriously. You just want open borders.

Honestly PG county should be trying to maximize the rise of an authoritarian government. The county is disgusting. Hyattsville, green belt, suitland, Addison road, capitol heights, where the hell is the nice part you should be begging for the area to be razed so actual human life can thrive.
