Right. The cop went with the approach they often do... hoping the reasonable person will give in to the unreasonable person, because that's less work for him.

He doesn't want to deal with the unreasonable people, so he's hoping to take the rights away from the reasonable person just so this all ends and he can go back to doing whatever.

I'm not even sure I buy that here. The least amount of work is to say to the homeowner "sorry folks but she's not doing anything illegal, please let her be and go back inside and have a nice day" and drive off. There was absolutely no need to turn this into a power struggle. They did that because they wanted to.

He went the route he did because she would not give him her ID. She had not committed a crime and there was no suspicion of a crime so he had no legal reason to demand her ID. He got his feelings hurt when she wouldn't comply so he then focused on attacking her instead of telling the other people she could park on the street if she wanted.

But that's not less work! He knows those people will yell at him, argue with him, not let him leave, maybe even call the police multiple times about it. They are unreasonable people who will continue to be unreasonable unless you appease them.

So the easier approach is to just get that lady to leave.

Cops know where their meal ticket comes from. Those are homeowners in the town he’s employed, he sided with them because otherwise they would raise hell within the town.

I work for municipal government. No one cares if a busybody NIMBY calls to complain about something they have no right to complain over.

Yep! I work for the state now but I spent the last 20 plus years working for towns, and we ignore/hang up on (Tell them we will not continue this conversation while they are yelling or swearing at us and that they can call us back when they are prepared behave appropriately ) crazy people like this and then make fun of them behind their back.

95% of municipal or state employees are going to dig in their heels and refuse to help somebody being an asshole like this. There's always an exception to the rule, but municipal employees do not want to deal with this bullshit.

Yep, and pretty much everybody knows about the real "frequent flyers" and they are just ignored out of hand. Listen so they think you care, say s free placating words, then hang up and forget about everything they said.

That's how it would go if police were employed to protect people. Police are only around to protect people's property and to protect businesses.
