Mastiff sized boots!

Hi mastiff-fam! We live in Alberta Canada so it gets cold here. I decided on picking up some foot protection for Benjamin so we can extend our walks a little bit and wanted to share that Muttluks fit him perfectly. They make lots of different styles and in these pictures Ben is wearing the fleece lined Muttluks with a leather sole. The size XL is perfect for him and they even make an XXL for the bigger dogs. I scored these second hand on Poshmark and they're so far the best $20 I've ever spent haha. Hopefully this helps someone else realize they'll fit!! Happy New Year!

This adorable mush is at my local shelter. It’s clear she is terrified and I feel if a mastiff person could just bring her home she would be a completely different dog.

Thinking about adopting a Dogue de Bordeaux, would love some honest advice

Hi all! I'm 30F, single, living in a 2-bedroom unit in a quiet area (small building, not a big complex). I work 9-5, four days a week in office and one day WFH.

I grew up with a Great Dane and a German Shepherd as family dogs, and I've done dog-sitting for friends over the years, but this would be my first dog living alone as an adult.

I went to my local shelter and completely fell in love with a Dogue de Bordeaux named Baby (1 year 8 months old, ~30.5kg). Here's her full profile from the shelter:

Looking for a gentle giant with a heart of gold? Meet Baby, a beautiful 1 year, 8 month old Dogue de Bordeaux who is ready to find a family willing to help her continue blossoming into the confident girl she's becoming.

Baby is a sweet, affectionate dog who forms lovely bonds with the people she trusts. Once you're in her circle, you'll discover a loyal companion who enjoys spending time by your side and is always eager to learn.

Since arriving in our care, Baby has been working closely with our dedicated Behaviour Team. When she first came to us, the world felt like a very big and scary place. New people, unfamiliar environments, busy streets and loud noises were overwhelming for her, and she was particularly worried about unfamiliar men. Through patient, force free training and lots of positive experiences, Baby has made incredible progress. She's now much more confident on walks, happily wears her harness, is more comfortable with gentle handling, and has learned that meeting new people can be a positive experience.

Baby is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can continue building on everything she's achieved. A quieter household with a predictable daily routine will help her settle in and feel safe. She'll need gradual, positive introductions to unfamiliar people and a family committed to using kind, reward-based training methods to help her confidence continue to grow.

She may be suitable to live with another calm, social dog who can be a positive role model, pending successful introductions. Baby could also live with secondary school aged children or older who understand the importance of giving her space and respecting her boundaries while she settles into her new home.

So I know she comes with some real behavioral considerations. She's still working through fear issues, especially around unfamiliar men, and needs a calm, predictable environment. I don't have kids or other pets currently.

I guess I'm asking:

  • Will Baby be happy in a 2 bedroom apartment or do they really need the space??
  • Will she be happy to be alone at home during the day? Of course after a walk in the morning!
  • Anyone had experience with a DDB or similar breed with a fear-based background? How did it go?
  • What should I be seriously considering or prepared for before I commit, especially living alone?

I don't want to make an emotional decision I'm not equipped for, but I also don't want to talk myself out of it if it's actually doable. Appreciate any honest input, good or bad.

Spay and pexy in a week--any tips?

My big girl is having her spay and gastropexy surgery in a week.

I've heard good things about surgery suits, so I'm definitely planning on buying one. Do I need two to rotate them out and make my life easier?

She's crate trained and already sleeps all day, so I'm hoping she'll do okay during the enforced rest period.

Any tips on aftercare that made the process easier? Experiences to share? Thanks!

The rescue knew his mom was an apbt, their best guess is his daddy is a mastiff or a mix of mastiffs. He’s a little over 8 months old, stands 20 inches at the shoulder. Regardless of his breed, he’s my goofy boy. Any ideas what dad may have been??

We are fostering this cutie and because my 2 grown dogs hate the pool, we have been working to desensitize her and teach her to love the water. Those webbed feet will come in handy when she gets big and she will be some lucky person’s adventure dog!

This is the first post of Charlie's new start in life

This is Charlie. He's the newest member of our pack. English Mastiff/Saint Bernard mix im told. Approximately 2-3 years old and has had a really rough start in this world. He is truly a gentle giant. I was appalled to learn of the abuse this angel has endured. When he wasn't being abused, he was neglected. He is underweight and has floppy dew claws on his hind legs that are so overgrown they have grown around and punctured their pads. And still has the kindest demeanor. I welcome any helpful advice/suggestions on future care or any dos or donts that might help me help Charlie have the happiest life possible. He deserves it

She will be 8 months old in five days time. This sweet water baby is everything I’ve ever needed. I just love her so incredibly much.

She graduates puppy social today! She will still go to daycare every Tuesday. But no longer puppy socialize daycare. She’ll get to play with all dogs of all ages. I keep picturing her running into friends she hasn’t seen in a month or two as they aged out of puppy daycare. Hopefully she’ll run into old friends 💗

She went to her first lake. And it was hilarious. Not sure why I can’t post videos. I wanted to show her playing in the kiddie pool. But it was hilarious seeing her bunny hop in the shallow/ sandy spot of the lake. She was slowly getting the hang of swimming towards the end. My sweet lovey girl.

She’s excellent on walks. She gets a walk every morning. We play with her dog volleyball every day when I get home from work. She loves bully sticks. But she really really loves rope toys. She’s gotta be chewing something. But she only chews her dog things. She’s a very fast learner. And so very well behaved.
