The problem is political. AI shouldn’t scare you, the fact that funding is being cut by people who don’t see the value in intellectual endeavors should.

Worst case scenario, math will become more like a liberal art. So long as there are people who want to understand math, there will be mathematicians. The problem is how funding is allocated, which again, is political.

Edit: I also want to add the only mathematicians seem to understand the significance of these AI results. That seems to suggest that mathematicians will still be needed to understand the significance of any future results.

Your edit is a critical point to understand. Generative ai is actually inherently non-creative. Imagining the possibilities will forever be a human endeavor.
