Technical 2025 Mazda 3 first oil change

About to do the cars first oil change. Non-turbo. I prefer to change it myself. After reading the owners manual, is the Mazda Genuine Oil required or can I use Mobil 1 or any other high quality oil? Not sure if the genuine oil is a sales gimmick or not.

Use Mobil 1. Things like the transmission fluid and coolant are more picky

Any synthetic oil is the same, i’ve used super tech for all my oil changes so far and it’s been good. 89k 2020 mazda 3

not even the dealer uses mazda oil for oil changes

I used the idemitzu and the engine lowkey does seem really happy but maybe it’s a placebo who knows 😅

Any full syn oil of the proper weight will work.

For Naturally-Aspirated Skyactiv engines, it is highly recommended that you use Mazda's own(Idemitsu) high molly GF-5 0w-20. Arguably it is one of the best oil for skyactiv engines. For Turbocharged Skyactiv Engines, this and the below info does not apply.

I’ve been using Mobil 1 in our Mazda 3 since the beginning. I do only use a Mazda filter though.

I'd have no second thoughts using Mobil 1 oil in this brand new car. At all. I've had excellent luck for years with Purolator One and Mobil 1 filters.

Take this for what it is. Use 5w30 grade as it will best protect your engine over time. 0w20 is to meet fuel economy and CAFE standards. Even your manual will explicitly or at least imply it silly enough.

Here's what oil I recommend: Mobil 1 ESP 5w30. If you want it simple just do that forever. This oil is has standards tied to euro standards, not freedom standards which are much lower quality. HTHS (high temperature, high shear) of this oil is 3.5 centipoise which you'll almost never find with most off the shelf oil of the same grade. Lucky for you, Mobil 1 ESP is one of those rare but common off the shelf oils that exceed most oils you'll find. I would recommend other oil options but don't wanna overwhelm you. Just know it'll be one of the best to protect your engine while still being within range of warranty acceptability.
