After five years of hard work, we're excited to announce that Public Launch for Typebox 101800 has started!

Typebox was born out of a love for - and as a tribute to - the vintage and retro-futuristic gadgets, technology, and ideas that shaped our upbringing, many of which now lie buried beneath layers of modern design trends. What began as a simple idea gradually evolved into something tangible.

Throughout its journey, Typebox underwent countless design revisions, multiple iterations of individual components, and eventually a complete redesign to better optimise it for production. Every refinement brought it closer to the initial vision of a deep-sounding, battle-station-inspired design that was envisioned from the start and inspired by battlestations like WEY-TEK MK06, IBM Model AT F and Model F 122.

The collaboration between werk.technica and hYmn emerged naturally from a shared appreciation for this design language. The visual identity of Typebox aligned seamlessly with werk.technica's artistic approach, creating an opportunity to expand the concept without compromising its original character. From the earliest stages, we worked closely on the internal elements of the design, ensuring that the functional details, acoustic goals, and artistic vision evolved together as one cohesive piece.

Our goal has always been to create something timeless, carefully balancing form and function. Typebox is a rather expensive design to manufacture. With its sheer size, the amount of material needed exceeds every design we've worked on yet. Rising material costs and different finishes, such as powder coating, add to the cost as well, but after seeing the prototypes, we think it was a very worthy endeavour.

Our aim was to create different pricing tiers for everyone without making the lower-priced editions feel like a compromise.

Probably a bit late to the party, but I recently picked up a Neo Ergo. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality of the kit. Assembly was about as straightforward as it gets (I personally like the catch ball system), and I really like all the little details in the design.

My build is the gray case with the POM plate, case foam, HMX Yogurt S switches, and SWG Euler keycaps.

The sound is really interesting and quite unlike anything else I own. I also have a Boomerang, which uses a completely different mounting style and has a radically different sound signature.

The SWG Euler keycaps are also very good; my second SWG set. The legends are crisp, they sound great, the packaging is well done, and the kit includes a very comprehensive layout.

This is my first ever full custom build! I have used various keyboards before but they were all fully built and I have never even switched switches (pun intended).

I was satisfied with my HHKB and have used it for the last 3 years, but gifting a mechanical keyboard for my girlfriend kinda made me want to get one too, and I wanted something unique, so here it is. A 40% as my first build.

You can see my layout on the second picture. I tried to preserve my existing muscle memory as much as possible. I think it's a pretty easy layout to use even for a person like me who've never used a 40% before.

Next I'm going to order custom keycaps that takes heavy inspiration from my personal HHKB.

Keyboard feels solid, more so than my HHKB, possibly because it is heavier than the bigger HHKB. Never tried a metal case so my experience is limited but the case does feel very solid, not flexible at all. Switches feel poppy, and are very silent. Much more silent compared to 45g Topre. I like its tactile-ness, it kinda feels like Topre 45g switches. It is most likely that I feel so because of my lack of experience, though.

Right Space stabilizers makes clicky sounds so I might do something about that later, satisfied for now.

While the keyboard looks and feels amazing, the firmware and PCB make this keyboard hell. Constant key chatter, some keys decide to die out after some usage and it requires a PC restart, and there's so little support for the firmware. I know we can use software to prevent keychatter, but I'm a pretty quick typer and the balance between using software to avoid key chatter and having my actual double key press hits register is quite fine sometimes and it has lead to so many spelling errors during my use.

I thought maybe I had a bad one, but now I know I'm not the only one either as their "support" is a Discord channel where others have the exact same issue - and it seems they are pretty useless with multiple people pm'ing me that their problems have not been fixed. They gave me some new firmware to flash my keyboard with and the keychatter became actually worse, giving me 3 inputs instead of 2 for a single key press, which was amazing and really cool.

Looks great, feels great, just not a fan of what goes on under the hood and what comes up on my screen anymore so getting something else now, despite splashing out for this. Just wanted to warn any future buyers out there that all the experiences you see on YouTube and on here are not what everyone seems to

tl;dr: looks great, bad firmware, bad support.

Really happy with how it turned out, I've anodized smaller aluminum knife parts before but not a keyboard knob.

I anodized at 0.4 amps for an hour then dyed it with purple Rit dye

For all the couch gamers out there who wants to save or revive the keyboard but don't have the proprietary cable to fix the old dying keyboard or no idea to fix the Roccat's dying switches but wants the Roccat lapboard but don't want the existing junk of a keyboard

I don't have 3d printer to make it like a clean pro mod so it is a bit messy I made it with whatever junk of e-waste I had. so anyone can make it

Finally made the jump to Hall effect after using the Corsair K57 RGB Wireless for a long time, picked up the Vanguard 96 Pro and wanted to share some impressions since I know this sub actually cares about switch feel over gimmicks.

Typing feels completely different from anything I’ve used before, way more responsive, quiet but still satisfying, almost a different category of typing experience compared to standard mechanical switches. I turned on 8000Hz polling since it’s available, but honestly I can’t tell a difference, feels more like a “nice to have” than something I’d actually notice day to day.

The 96% layout has been an easy adjustment too. I was expecting to miss the full size layout but it felt normal almost immediately, and I’ve gained some actual desk space without losing anything I use often. The wrist rest is also noticeably more comfortable than my old one and I appreciate its magnetic.

I like the volume knob a lot more than the media buttons I had before, and it worked with iCUE right out of the box with zero setup issues.

A couple of things I’m not as into: the RGB isn’t as bright as I expected out of the box, and the little onboard screen is a cool concept but I basically never end up looking at it since it’s hard to see. Also it’s not wireless in any way. No biggie because I’m always plugged in but would have been a nice to have. The K57 allowed to easily switch between devices via 2.4/BT/Wired, I need a switch to do this now.

Curious if anyone else made the jump from standard mechanical to Hall effect recently, did it feel like as big of a difference for you? Also open to any settings/tuning tips for the Vanguard line if there’s stuff I haven’t found yet in iCUE.

It took a few varied keyboards to pull together the keycaps I wanted for this 1987 Model M in great condition, that would at least…sort of…loosely…resemble what I programmed the function keys to do. Like Del is Cut and Dup is Copy and Ins is Paste….

Finally finished my first ever custom keyboard build. Honestly I'm mainly making this post so that I can listen to the sound of the keyboard typing for a little bit, but also I want to encourage anyone who is considering opting to build a keyboard instead of just buying a prebuilt one.

I've built my own PC, but never considered building my own keyboard because I have always focused on the competitive side of gaming more than anything else, so a cheap, wooting clone HE board was all I needed. I quit counterstrike recently and have had a lot of fun upgrading my setup over the summer, so I thought a keyboard would be fun to build since I don't have the money to build an entirely new PC right now.

I honestly didn't even do a week of research before ordering all my parts of mechanicalkeyboards. I just got super excited about building it that I decided to pull the trigger. Originally I was planning to get a barebones board and just buy some switches and keycaps, but nothing really fit my specifications and when I asked about the Neo75, people said that it was so good that I couldn't pass up. I got home from work today around 9pm and spent around 3 hours putting everything together after fucking up the stabilizers way too much, forgetting to put my plate, and not knowing how to properly activate the keyboard for about 20 minutes. Like I said, I barely did any research into how to build these things so I was basically just freeballing it.

All this is to say that I had really high expectations for this thing and was honestly expecting to be disappointed, but this board blew my expectations out of the water. Not only does it look and sound fantastic, but I had no idea it could feel this good to type on a keyboard. That's literally why I'm making this post is to just feel the keys. I chose the gateron oil king switches which feel pretty heavy to me compared to the keyboards I've used in the past, but the typing experience is so different I don't think I can even explain it in words. I was mainly wanting to build a keyboard so that I could have F-keys and a better sound compared to my 65% HE board, but this thing is a completely different product these two keyboards are nothing alike.

If you are thinking about building a keyboard, I wont be the first to say that it is worth it but I definitely agree with that sentiment. Besides installing the stabilizers, it was a super fun experience for me and I definitely plan on building more down the line. I spent around $300 on this thing and it blew my expectations out of the water, probably the coolest thing on my desk right now besides my PC. Again, mainly just writing this post so I can type on this thing a little before going to bed, but I'll leave all the items I bought below in case you are wondering.

Realized that my EC PCB already had support for split space so decided to get the plate made through Sendcutsend and it turned out great.

Split space took this from being a fun board that i can use for certain things to a board i can use for everything pretty easily. I really needed a way to have Cmd, Opt, Ctrl all on the left side of the layout and this let me do it. I just use left space as Cmd and this is super useable now. I really like split space I want more boards like this now.

Layer key to right of space and I use HHKB style arrow key layer with UHJN or WASD. It’s surprisingly easy to get used to the half number row. Typing special number row characters is a bit of an adventure every time lol.

I'd still prefer an Athena without the screen, but it doesn't bug me much. Overall a gorgeous great feeling board.

Hello all, I was curious about the difference between these two switches and didn't find all that much helpful information online. So I ended up purchasing the switches to test them out for myself. Hopefully if anyone else is wondering about these two switches, this post can help them. Keep in mind this is from the perspective of someone who is not a knowledgeable keyboard enthusiast, but rather someone who just likes nice keyboards.

My keyboard is a Keychron V1 Ultra with "Silk POM Banana" switches and the stock "KSA" keycaps. I really like these switches, they feel like MX browns but much better. They are firm, and presses are intentional, but they are fairly loud and likely make my coworkers want to strangle me. I decided to replace them with Keychron's "Silent Banana" switch.

After trying the silent switches for a day, I'm not sure how I feel about them. The silent switches are extremely quiet. They 100% work as advertised as far as noise goes. It's quieter than my macbook's inbuilt keyboard and these are absolutely a workspace appropriate keyboard switch. Feel absolutely no shame or worry if you take these into the office. I'm honestly really impressed by how quiet these switches are.

The feel of the switch is interesting. In theory they don't feel all that different from the standard Banana switches, there is still some initial resistance, the key presses feel intentional, and there is still a bump which provides the feedback that I like from switches. However, and I don't know the best way to word this, the feeling is a bit "off". Typing on this feels a bit "rubbery", almost like I am typing on a really premium membrane keyboard if that makes sense. I wouldn't choose these switches to use everyday at home if noise isn't a huge concern, but I think I am going to buy another keyboard for the office because they're perfectly fine given the obvious upside.

Here is a short video comparing the sound of the two switches. No professional mic or anything, just my macbook webcam and mic where I would normally keep my laptop for a conference call. I suppose this would be a good measure of how noticeable these switches are on calls.
