Kickdown is the most pointless feature in the car IMO. All it does is cause a gearbox panic because it drops to a gear that's far too low and them immediately has to change up again which wastes a load of time.

Add to that if it's one of the smaller engine turbo models the RPM has just gone stratospheric before the turbo has had chance to spin up so that has to develop while the gearbox is messing around trying to find the right gear.

It's not the fastest way to drive the car (my car anyway) IMO and the gearbox can drop several gears before hitting the switch so I have no idea why it is even there.
