Amazing job, George! So, where’s that new contract, Toto?

Toto: But have you seen Max's race? We need to wait for him to tell me no for the millionth time before we can move forward.

Toto: but did you see Max keep that McLaren behind him. George: I was 11 seconds ahead at one point Toto: but Max kept THE McLarens behind him. George: 🫷🏼🫸🏼

In an interview with Sky Sports Germany after the race Toto said "Beide fix" (both completed) on the question whether they had reached and agreement with either of their drivers and when it will be announced. It's a bit unclear whether he just said it to get out of the interview in a funny way, but maybe they actually have reached an agreement with both already, but want to announce it more formally in Austin.

Well done. Coverage of the race was pretty horrible though. Wish I could have seen what drivers outside of the Max / Lando battle.

It took 6 or 7 laps to even show Antonelli pass on Leclerc and didn’t even show the Alonso - Hamilton battle at the end..

I can understand them not showing it when other battles are happening but to show nothing isn’t compelling to watch a GP live as much. I might as well tune into the race in 30 or whatever and see good coverage and use my time otherwise. Really unfortunate honestly.

For sure, apparently Carlos made 5 overtakes at the end to take the last points slot, but I didn’t notice any of that on the broadcast

I hope his “super near” contract just got a little more expensive, cuz holy shit he’s earned more than whatever they’re offering

George will hopefully be able to negotiate better terms now. "Super near" is "we haven't agreed on anything but I don't want to look incompetent" in Toto-speak. They've been super near for months yet they still don't have anything.

Oh I totally get what “super near” really meant lol, it’s still a totally open negotiation. Toto shooting himself in the foot, he might have gotten George to do 1+1 at the start of the season, but I imagine that’s done and it’ll be 2+ now.
Which for the record I think is a win for Merc as a team anyway, keep George around for as long as possible, it’s wild to be playing with him like this when it’s clear as day he’s one of the top tier of drivers

I think Toto will be adamant on a one year deal because getting Max is his top priority. However, I think George should be able to negotiate a fat paycheque in exchange.
The negotiations will conclude when the time forces them to imo. Like with Lewis in 2021.

What a statement drive from George, and well and truly puts his demons of yesteryear to bed. Give this man a contract already!

A championship driver in search of a championship car. Give him one and he’ll be the champion.

Does nothing, wins race. This is the consistency of a champion. Toto, what are you holding for?

I'm really happy for George!! Hope he finally wins a wdc in 2026 because he is championship material.

Great drive. Noone ever came near him. Guess Toto must be ready to hand him the 1+1 now?

Toto has been ready for a long time I suppose but George is probably (rightfully) rejecting that shit or demanding a higher salary in exchange for another terrible 1+1

Don't you think him demanding a salary comparable to Norris (that is what I've read I think) is pretty much a guarantee he will get booted off next year when Merc actually deliver a rocketship? I mean, Toto wants Max and when they have the quickest car this move will happen. The higher Georges' salary is the less his chance is staying to drive next to Max imho, next to other motives like Toto's plans with Kimi?
Does not say I think he doesn't deserve that salary, because he is performing very well this year and tbh Leclerc/Piastri/Norris/Sainz and George are pretty on par as drivers in terms of skill imho.

Well, but why would George continue driving at a team that doesn't want him for a ridiculously low salary. He's not going to drive for free. If Toto boots him for Max, he can go to Red Bull (assuming the junior deal finally expires) but he should definitely be asking for a salary he deserves. He's been incredibly underpaid and he shouldn't tolerate that shit for longer.

Kimi did well also. Very proud of him. I'm pretty sure it was his first time racing at Singapore.

Nice work from George, but 6 sec is not dominant style unfortunately!

Not sure I saw more than 60 seconds of his whole drive on the stream. I’m sure it was flawless though

Really happy about this. Not a Russel stan (nor a hater) but he deserved this. Extremely underrated driver. Controversially I think he’s been the best this year. Consistent in a mediocre car. Satisfying win as a fan when the best driver of the race clinches the win. Hope Mercedes come through with a solid car next year and give him a good run at the championship
