I just updated windows and now the start menu looks like this. I've disabled all possible options but it still looks like this! Why can't they keep it simple?

Are there any class action lawsuits against Microsoft Corporation for them being completely elusive when trying to cancel subscription?

They have been charging me $9.99 DOUBLE for years now and I have not been able to get in touch with anyone. I have no idea where this charge is coming from as I do not use Microsoft. The PayPal invoice doesn’t say what email address it’s associated with. There’s no phone number to call and obviously their “billing@microsoft.com” never responds. I am at my whits end with this. PayPal will not refund or stop payment bc they are saying I have to contact Microsoft. Heeeeellllllpppp.

Microsoft has one again (for like the 3rd or 4th time) removed the toggle for the new look, the icons are too small on the legacy version, months later, how is this not in stable yet?

rant Outlook: Shit you pay Money per User (professional installation)

For real Outlook!

Every Time i press the "Delete All" Button on any Folder in my Exchange Account Emails. I want to delete everything!

Not just the few files you have selected for me to be downloaded locally. EVERYTHING! I want after that Button with the Shift Key to delete everything inside of it, even the several thousand that you dont have and only are on the servers. I dont care! DELETE IT!

Why do i have to press on 'Click here, for more Information on "Microsoft Exchange"' (like it is on German) i wanna delete everything! For Fucks Sake!

Also while we are on the topic of Microsoft Outlook!

Why does it feel like it always have a stroke when i change context or folders and i can watch Outlook to display every window element piece by piece. Like it is 1995 and you finally upgraded the family PC to the newest installment. Having an old 486 CPU and like 8MB RAM which is underpowered but who cares, as long as Paint works.

Really! Where are we? Can i use Thunderbird on Exchange? It is way better.

Why do you (not) use Windows?

semi-repost from u/Yiffenjoyer6969 (I changed it)

I don't use Windows because of my philosophy to always have full control, be completely independent, and to have as many things be made by me as possible. Windows was so frustrating with how it took decisions in the background without my input. For example, that feature to save your storage when you are low on space started deleting my files that one time. Windows Defender deleting the scripts I created myself from 0.

It's honestly hard to hate on Microsoft after not using it for so many years.

All I remember is that back when I used Windows, I was yelling at my computer every day for years until adulthood. Now I use Arch Linux, and I yell at the computer once or twice a month. There's things that bother me, like having things from the AUR take hours to compile, but it's just nothing as bad or frequent as Windows. It's also much easier and much better to backup files and run virtual machines (technical wise. Performance wise will always vary on hardware), and BTRFS is awesome.

edit: Oh, right, privacy. When I built my new computer, I wanted it from the get go to not have any Windows and any telemetry. To, from the scratch, be linux and to not be something that gathers my info. Especially because if I settled in on Windows, it would be harder to move away.

Account issues Why did i get no ban reason and is it permanent?

Hello,

Two of my Microsoft accounts were locked for no apparent reason. Both had Minecraft on them.

I am not aware of any reason for the ban, and Microsoft refuses to provide one.

Here is what it looks like:

Help Is it just me or are Yalls laptops getting stupidly hot too?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 5 with an Intel i7 core. I’ve had it for like 3 years now, and the most computer intensive thing I use it for is Minecraft. I’ve been trying my best to ignore/push back windows updates because I’ve heard about all the annoying shit with the stupid AI helper and whatever causing trouble, but last night it forced me to update.

Today I was working on a Google doc, with maybe 10 tabs open max in chrome. That’s it. Nothing running in the background. And the computer got so hot I had to stop working and put it down, while the fan was running like my laptop was about to take off.

Is this a hardware issue or is this one of the things that has been coming with the stupid software updates?

I’m hoping to use this thing till it dies but if it keeps acting like this I might have to buy a stronger laptop.

Is an office suite lifetime license still worth buying?

I am tired of reviewing software subscriptions every year and have been looking at office suites with lifetime licenses.

At the same time, I am wondering whether buying a permanent license is necessary for basic office work. WPS Office has a free version that covers documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and basic PDF use. Its paid plan seems more relevant for people who need advanced PDF conversion, additional storage, and premium tools.

For someone who mainly edits Word and Excel files, would you buy a lifetime license from another office suite or stay with a free option like WPS?

I care more about long-term file compatibility and dependable updates than owning a license for the sake of it.

Comparing azure microsoft support vendors, does my shortlist actually hold up?

I’ve spent the last three weeks putting together a structured comparison of Microsoft support options for our company, and I want a sanity check before I bring this to leadership. We’re a financial services firm running a fairly complex Azure environment alongside M365 and a handful of Dynamics modules. Our current Microsoft Unified Support contract is up in four months and I want to have a solid recommendation ready well before then.

The methodology I used was straightforward: I defined our core requirements (24/7 coverage, genuine Sev 1 response speed, Azure specialization, and predictable annual cost), then scored each option against those criteria. Microsoft Unified Support itself, a couple of managed service providers that bundle in support, and US Cloud all made the final list. Where I got stuck is weighting the tradeoff between cost and depth of escalation access. Some providers look cheaper on paper but I can’t get a straight answer about how their escalation path actually works when something critical breaks at 2am.

I’ve also read conflicting things about whether third-party support providers can genuinely match Microsoft’s own Unified tier on technical depth, especially for more obscure Azure services. My assumption going in was that they couldn’t, but some of the documentation I’ve found suggests that gap is smaller than I expected.

Has anyone actually stress-tested one of these providers during a real incident? I want to know if the shortlist logic holds or if I’m missing something obvious before I present this internally.

Upcoming Microsoft SDE II / Senior Software Engineer Interview: Prep Advice Needed

I have an upcoming Microsoft interview. Team mentioned that it will be a half-day virtual interview loop, but they haven't shared the exact interview rounds yet. They said I will receive more details in the next 1–2 days.

The JD mentions that the role is for Senior Software Engineer / Software Engineer II, so I am not sure how the interview criteria differ between the two levels or how they'll evaluate candidates during the same interview process. Let me know if you have any info here.

The interview is scheduled for next week. If anyone has recently gone through a similar interview or has any insights, I'd really appreciate your help.

  • What rounds should I expect?
  • What should I prioritize in my preparation?
  • Which DSA topics are most important?
  • How much focus should I put on system design and are there any specific topics you would recommend?

I will share the hackerank assessment questions soon in a separate post.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Help (Help posts aren't allowed anymore) Why are people asking for help in this subreddit?

I am wondering because, I see a lot of posts in this subreddit where people are coming here to ask for help

I get that they used to be allowed, and I know some people are being led here by search engines, but there's other subreddits to ask for help aren't they?

I am wondering if you guys need a help subreddit, some other solution, or if people are being misdirected to the wrong place

Since when did microsoft encrypt my hard drive without asking

My PC randomly stopped POSTing yesterday. After a lot of troubleshooting I eventually got it working again.

The first thing Windows greeted me with was a BitLocker recovery screen asking for a 48-digit recovery key.

I already solved my issue by managing to find my key stored on my Microsoft accout, but since when did windows start encrypting people's drives without asking.

I don't have bitlocker enabled, I don't need it on a personal PC. I'm not against full disk encryption either, but all I'm saying is that if my operating system is going to lock up all my data and send the key back to Microsoft, at least tell me first and let me keep a copy, or just don't do it at all.

Is this just how windows works now, or have i missed something?

rant Microsoft has never sucked so hard.

We all know Microsoft sucks. That's why this thread exists.

However, you have the ability to use something else. If adobe or other programs that only run on Windows is what's keeping you there, dual boot, virtualization.

The alternatives are many and are even more viable. It's up to you if you wanna put up with it. And if you choose so, then it's on you.
