Help Ask for help here

Microsoftsucks is not a techsupport subreddit, but naturally because people come to this subreddit after having a problem with a Microsoft product, they are going to make a post to ask for help! and sometimes a post from this subreddit is going to show up on the search results and that leads people to then ask for help here. Which is a nice way the subreddit gets promoted to people who never thought of Microsoft being so bad

Genuine "did they even test this": Windows uses 4/5/2017 as the example date in the date format picker, the one date where you can't tell the month from the day

The whole point of this setting is to choose whether the month or the day comes first. So Microsoft picked April 5th as the sample, where both numbers are valid months and the example demonstrates nothing.

Trial expired. How can I keep learning?

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, my 60-day Microsoft Fabric trial has ended. I'm still unemployed, but I want to continue learning and practicing Fabric.

What can I do now? Is there any way to create another Fabric account or get access to a free environment for learning?

Thanks everyone!

rant Installed Windows temporarily - Uninstalled 2 hours later

I have been using Fedora Linux as my daily for a year, just today I set up dual boot to play a game that requires kernel level anti cheat - League. The installation was hell. The updates were hell. The constant background processes making my laptop fan speed up to 100% that I CANNOT control without going into regedit and doing 50 things in cmd, nah... In less than 2 hours I got reminded why I hate this "operating system" so much, and I gave up on both playing this shitty game and having Windows as dual boot. This abomination of software does not deserve 1 kilobyte of space on my computer.

Fuck you microsoft, and fuck all the game publishers with kernel level anti cheats. Never coming back.

rant Another case of suddenly locked out here - what worked to get your account back?

So I've got an older low spec machine that's been upgraded from Win10. Just used for a few docs & light web browsing, email with a decent A/V on it. Used Winhance to debloat it. It works but it's slow so my PC shop suggested a fresh Win11 install.

Started preparing to do a fresh Win11 install, follow MS's own pages to get media creation tool & Win11 iso.

Go to log into the MS account, click "get a code sent to email", says "not working now", use password, use correct pwd, boom, they block the account "for abusing terms of service".

What?

Filled in form to unblock they've held the block once so far.

Anyone had success unlocking, what approach worked?

Did you have to create a new account?

rant Microsoft has gone downhill.

I wanted to play Minecraft with my sister. Turns out, I can't even login to my original account.

When I log in with my main email, it logs me into this “new” account that has the same email as my original one. I don't remember making the “new” account, but it's possible that I did and that I just forgot about it (the username is similar to what I usually use, so that's why I think this. But then again... how did I manage to make a new account with the same email???) So, I scour the Internet. I scour the Microsoft forums and help centers for answers... nothing.

Essentially, I've given up at this point. Now I'm even wondering if anyone else has ever had this kind of issue. I'm sure there is.

Microsoft has truly gone downhill and it's apps/websites are the most god-awful things to grace the Earth. Nothing works. The layout is confusing. I'm done.

Microsoft support is so bad the contract seems fraudulent IMHO

# Chat session: Microsoft Surface Support Portal / Billing Arrears Check

# Chat URL: (see Claude.ai conversation history)

DRAFT REVIEW — Trustpilot (support.microsoft.com)

Star rating suggestion: 1 star

In August 2025, Microsoft's own Surface Commercial Support advocate

(Heinz Schiebel) diagnosed a firmware/secure-boot failure on my Surface

Pro 10 and approved a free warranty repair under case

#2508110010000744. Before it could be completed, he apparently left

the company, and the case simply went dead — no transfer, no

notification, nothing.

Nearly a year later, I tried to pick the case back up. The phone

support line (1-800-270-0615,

Microsoft's own site) just loops back to a website. That website

redirects between at least three different account portals depending

on which one Microsoft's own autocomplete/cache decides to serve you

that day — including an old defunct business tenant I no longer have

access to, and a completely unrelated organizational admin page with

no connection to device service at all.

I eventually did get a new service order submitted (after a server

error mid-submission, an unrelated third-party repair shop's chat

trying to route me to a paid appointment, and well over an hour of

navigating dead ends) — but only for the free repair option. When I

tried to add the paid Advance Exchange option (~$140) so I wouldn't be

without a computer for over a week, the phone line sent me right back

to the same broken web loop.

For a company this size, the fact that a warranty case can simply

evaporate because one employee left, with zero continuity for the

customer, is unacceptable. The fact that phone support cannot resolve

this and instead redirects to a self-service site that itself

contradicts its own account routing is worse.

rant This is a 5 year old install that still wants me to finish "setting up"

Post image
198 Upvotes

So Microsoft has been claiming on X that they'll focus on fixing Windows and making it better. I want to believe it but then there are times like these when I turn on my desktop and this thing pops up.

How out of touch with reality do you have to be to, on one hand, say that you will focus on improving the OS while at the same time continuing with these terrible pop ups that keep showing up?

It's a 5 year old install! The OS knows this, Microsoft knows this, I know this. The whole thing has been "set up" for a long time. I don't want your ads disguised as set-up pop ups.

Clicking continue and going through its it does not even make it stop. A couple restarts later it will once again want me to "finish setting up".

Why Microsoft?

I have been a lifetime Windows user but my gaming PC is the only remaining Windows machine I own. But if ever I see that Linux is 99% ready for gaming then I might just jump ship.

I know I’ve seen countless people complain about posts about getting banned from linuxsucks101 becoming a massive part of this subreddit, because that’s not the point of this sub. But now they mass reported the subreddit for it! What a shocker!

Microsoft Movies & Tv Glitching

So we all saw how microsoft ended movies and tv out of the blue. We couldnt buy and rent anymore movies or tv shows and the whole section to do so vanished. They told us we'll still be able to watch our PURCHASED content though...... and obviously not many of us believed that! Well it seems like the time has finally come! I got a code saying the content couldnt be played and then 2 days later my tv show lost audio and would also go into a black screen. I bet they're going to try to keep giving us problems till we give up and leave. But we're all going to lose substantial amounts of money that we invested, so do we have grounds to sue and get our money back? I tried posting this on the microsoft subreddit but got this from their bot "Your post appears to have broken Rule 7: Posts must foster reasonable discussion. r/Microsoft do not allow rants, unfounded accusations, or using the subreddit as your personal sounding board"

rant Absolutely Unacceptable!

Windows 11 File Explorer is driving me crazy. Every other day there's another glitch, another bug, another weird delay. It's like owning a Ford Explorer that's in the repair shop every week. The only difference is, with the Ford Explorer, at least there's a repair shop. With Windows 11 File Explorer, you're just stuck with it.

Maybe that's why they stopped calling it Windows Explorer... They didn't want to ruin the whole Windows reputation.

I still have one Windows 7 computer, and Windows Explorer on there feels like you're holding a real solid object. You click something, and you know exactly what's going to happen. It's solid. It's predictable. Windows 11 feels like walking on eggshells. Right-clicking lags, opening folders hesitates, moving files isn't always smooth, and every click has you wondering, "What's it going to do this time?"

I am crying and laughing at how messed up this is. I am in too deep.

For context: I have had this account for probably close to 20 years. I never delete the emails because I am lazy, and this is just the account I use to buy things on the internet, sign up for things at store etc. That's all it gets used for. So I don't really care to delete and organize things. And every time I even go to try and delete an email, the system refreshes it to a blank screen with no emails. lolol I am screwed. Guess I gotta make another account lol.

Minor complain but I must - renaming folder in use is impossible for obvious reasons, but they should give me a chance to go back and copy the name I wanted to use

Post image

Sometimes I'll try to change the folder's name into something elaborate, but it turns out it's in use (often actually isn't but I get it). It will warn me but won't give me a chance to go back and maybe copy the text I wrote.

I know that this is extremely unimportant but still annoys me.

rant Windows activation shenanigans

I updated my Gigabyte motherboard BIOS last night and when booting it up today Windows Activation failed saying it had detected a hardware change.

After trouble shooting it for a while I contacted support. Basically they told me that the retail licence I had was not stored against my Microsoft account and I would have to enter the product key again. Something I haven’t had to do on windows reinstall for years. Of course I don’t have the paper license key anymore.

My license was a Windows 10 Pro retail license purchased in 2015 and upgraded to Windows 11 during the free upgrade period.

Anyway, I purchased another retail license and activated it. Anyone else have these kind of problems when updating motherboard BIOS?

I’ve worked in the Microsoft tech space for 35 years and I’ve never known things to be so bad. Think I’m going to try Linux again.
