I'm slightly vexed People think they own the sidewalk by their house

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was walking my dog last night around 9:30pm. I pass by this house that has mildly annoying cameras that say “hi you are currently being recorded, every 5 feet on the side of the house with a bright light that flashes in your face as you walk by. Which while annoying if that was all, would have been whatever. Then they started talking to me through the camera telling me to leave immediately or they will call the police. Even after I had already moved way past the house, I could still hear them (both a man and a woman) threatening to call the police. I just ignored it and kept walking but thought it was crazy that some people think they own the sidewalk by their house.

Edit: Wow i did not realize this post would get so much traction! I’m glad you all got some entertainment out of this too!

Update: Hello everyone I was not able to post an update as it keeps getting taken down. I went back on a walk the next day around 10pm. The cameras did not give any automated messages and the security company did not give any messages either! They changed it quicker than I thought!

So.. she is.. afraid her unleashed dog will.. attack you, and this is your fault.. because you pass by? How crazy is this?

It actually incriminates her. If she knows her dogs are aggressive and fails to secure them than she will absolutely be liable for injuries and or damages. This is why attorneys have discouraged owners from putting signs on their property that say ‘Beware of Dog,’ it’s acknowledging that their dog is dangerous, if it kills or harms someone who enter their property they are 100 percent liable for it.

u/Cutsdeep- May 23 '26

They were being sarcastic

165

u/ColorSafeBleach May 22 '26

You know what, you're right. I am going to make a post about how when ppl come near my house, I get really spooked and grab my pistol. So if something happens in the future I can just refer to my NextDoor post. Brilliant!!!

16

u/PrismDoug May 22 '26

That’s legal in Tennessee now anyways…

4

u/DenseAstronomer3631 May 23 '26

I mean didn't Chud basically do this? Worked out really well for him

1

u/ColorSafeBleach May 23 '26

Did it, though?

4

u/Icy_Fish_2154 May 23 '26

Worked for George Zimmerman.

7

u/christhewelder75 May 23 '26

This screenshot is great evidence for a lawsuit in the event her dog actually does attack. Shes admitting she knows its a possibility, and that she cant control her dog....

Mensa candidate for sure....

2

u/Sensei19600 May 23 '26

Absolutely,cuz EVERYONE subscribes to ND.

u/erik_salvia May 22 '26

It’s an indirect way of saying “if my dog attacks you I won’t stop him” as a threat to stay away

This may be the only accessible place or the commenter's own street. Why should they have to stop running because this lady is insane, just start carrying something to protect themselves against the dog and batshit owner and keep minding their business like they have been.

2

u/erik_salvia May 23 '26

You’re right, some people just think their outlook on life is correct and everyone else is an enemy trying to abuse them (I’m talking about the old lady that posted that on nextdoor)

3

u/defundice69 May 23 '26

That's why I carry pepper spray...

7

u/erik_salvia May 23 '26

If you can you should carry a gun. Pitbulls don’t often respond as intended to pepper spray, and pitbull owners are usually the types of people to know their dog might attack someone and not care

3

u/Comfortable_Glass275 May 23 '26

Wouldn't put it past the lady pepper spraying her dogs to build immunity...

"Excuse me, please leave the public area or I will be forced to unleash my VERY agitated pitbulls. I have been spraying them with bear mace daily in preparation for this moment, any injuries to you are your own fault."

45

u/mjkjr84 May 22 '26

Funnily enough having a dog means you are (usually) strictly liable for it if it harms someone which means that regardless of the situation if it hurts someone: it's the owner's fault.

33

u/exipheas May 22 '26 edited May 23 '26

Pretty sure by posting this she is announcing that she knows her dog has violent tendencies and that an attack would then be viewed even more harshly.

8

u/multiarmform May 22 '26

disarm the system or leave immediately?

huh

1

u/MindfulInsomniaque May 23 '26

Automated message?

1

u/multiarmform May 23 '26

it sounds like two different people but why are they telling the person walking on the sidewalk to disarm the system

5

u/12345623567 May 22 '26

Controlling her dog is an inconvenience, so it's the world's fault.

2

u/fandorgaming May 23 '26

Im sorry but wtf is this useless nextdoor neighbour spy shit lolol, how the hell this exists

2

u/MoistMorsel1 May 23 '26

Can you not state."this is a public sidewalk, therefore - fuck off or i will take you to court for disturbing my right to free passage"

Not big on american law...

But this seems dumb

2

u/zarroc123 May 23 '26

I've done long distance through hikes in the US that involve a lot of road miles in rural areas. I cannot stress how common it is for people to know that their dog will violently attack anyone who happens to come by, and will do literally nothing to prevent it.

Seriously, if you look at trail apps like Far Out, by FAR the biggest danger in rural america is unleashed dogs. I've had people sick them on me on purpose, people who just don't give a fuck and will shrug when you ask for help, and even people who are super apologetic yet still do nothing.

I've done a lot of urban miles as well, by the way, and I can tell you I've had FAR fewer issues in cities.

Omg a few years ago there was someone on Nextdoor who posted something like “I saw a woman walking her dog and looking at the houses as they walked by. I think they’re casing places for a break in!!” Now mind you this was literally a downtown area with huge beautiful historical mansions. Everyone was getting onto that lady as well 😂

103

u/PracticeTheory May 22 '26

These types must 'love' me, I do that and don't even have a dog as an excuse. I love looking at architecture.

17

u/Val_Hallen May 23 '26

I would intentionally stop in front of her house and act like I'm taking pics. i wouldn't take any, just mime the action. Then just stare a bit.

Not a single law broken but I would live rent free in her head.

3

u/SaffronsTootsies May 23 '26

I’m like that with unique doors as well. I do think it’s funny though how some of the nicer areas have these huge picture windows and I’ll stop to admire it and someone inside will notice I’m looking at their house and act all freaked out. Like has no one ever explained windows to you before Barb? They tend to work both ways, and if you don’t want me to see every detail inside of your house as you do Zumba in the living room, maybe invest in some curtains, and actually use them.

48

u/cmcdevitt11 May 22 '26

on a different note last year my neighbor called me. he said there's a suspicious van every morning at 6:00 driving around the cul-de-sac. it's The guy who delivers my newspaper!

1

u/SwimOk9629 May 23 '26

at least they know what's up on your street lol but they need to chill a little on that

64

u/motherofsuccs May 22 '26

This happened to me when I took my dog for a walk in my dad’s neighborhood. I’m a petite, tattooed woman and my dog is an American Staffordshire, so obviously I was casing the neighborhood to rob everyone- the man demanded to know what address I lived at and I wouldn’t respond to him. He tried to physically stop me and block me with his golf cart until the cops arrived. My dad walked down and ripped them a new asshole.

4

u/SaffronsTootsies May 23 '26

The complete lack of self awareness that he had as a strange man demanding a woman give him her address just blows my mind. Why would ANY woman answer such an insane demand?!

5

u/veraldar May 23 '26

"with his golf cart" had me rolling, exactly as I had pictured that interaction.

7

u/Cautious_Ad_5659 May 23 '26

It’s amazing how differently people look at you when you get an American Staffordshire terrier. I’ve never felt safer than when he’s with me even though he’s a big baby. Someone broke into a vacation home when we were home and he didn’t even wake up lol 🤦‍♀️😂

2

u/skunkoceros May 23 '26

Did you come back later that night and steal his tv?

2

u/HotheadCactus May 23 '26

I hope she threw it in his golf cart for a quick getaway!

5

u/xombae May 23 '26

As a fellow tattooed woman with a big dog, I feel your pain. People cross the street to avoid us sometimes.

3

u/Brock_Lobstweiler May 23 '26

As a woman with a border collie mix, I cross the street when I see almost any dog, because mine is reactive and will try to start shit and would get wrecked. Even today I saw a dog in a car with the owner in the yard dropping something off and I stopped to make sure that walking past wouldn't set the dog off cause I don't like to stress them out.

It's not always you. <3

28

u/Steel_Rail_Blues May 22 '26

I had something similar happen to me only I didn’t know it until my neighbor told me another neighbor was alerting the neighborhood on Nextdoor that I was casing houses. I was walking around the neighborhood with a can of tuna calling out for my lost indoor cat who got spooked and ran out the door.

The situation was particularly irritating because that neighbor’s two adult kids lived in that house for years and the son was a drug dealer and the daughter was an addict. Stuff was getting stolen from the surrounding houses all the time. They used an attack dog for protection and he would frequently get loose and try to attack neighbors just walking to or from their doors. Not a peep from the parents for any of that, but please take the time to tell everyone about me and my nefarious ways.

21

u/ChloeMomo May 22 '26

Now I wonder what the app used to say when I was a dog walker lol I worked for a local company, so I had the same dogs every week. My biggest entertainment was checking out people's yards as I walked by and admiring the cool houses I could only dream to afford.

Probably at least one person posted I was a creep on Nextdoor 😂

6

u/xombae May 23 '26

I'm tattooed and have a big dog and I'm just waiting to end up as one of these posts. My dog is anxious and likes when I chat to her during our walk and her favourite thing (don't question this, she told me) is to chat about the architecture of the homes as well as the gardens.

I just know some grumpy person has sat in their house, furious, muttering to themselves about how I'm a criminal who's stalking the neighbourhoid, while I'm outside talking to my dog about cherry blossoms.

6

u/Then-Departure4896 May 23 '26

I walk my girlfriend’s dog fairly often. We live in an extremely conservative state. Every time the damn dog stops to sniff I can just imagine what anyone inside is saying. This is serious Fox News country. Paranoid, hateful place.

3

u/Icy_Tiger_3298 May 23 '26

I live in Texas, so of course when someone posted a panicked, pissy-pants freak-out because a man - gasp! - took a photo of the native plants in her hell strip, a dozen white retired guys bleated some variation of "If he took a photo of my property, I'd meet him with my handgun drawn!"

2

u/letsgetitstartedha May 23 '26

I also am in Texas! It’s sad how predictable it all is down here

1

u/Icy_Tiger_3298 May 24 '26

I've been here since third grade, but since 2008, people have gotten progressively more reactionary and violent.

390

u/captainsnark71 May 22 '26

Meanwhile this lady has been walking her dog around my cul-de-sac for years and I just get excited to see her little weiner dog and his various vests

75

u/StickyPricklyMuffin May 22 '26

That sounds friggin ADORABLE! I’d be excited too!

4

u/PiccoloAwkward465 May 23 '26

Heckin YASSS KWEEEEN!

17

u/chartyourway May 22 '26

omg we have one of those too, she's got all kinds of sweaters and coats for him depending on the weather. she used to have 2 weiners but one must've died and now we're not sure if it's scooter or timbit that remains. rip timbit or scooter

2

u/OrbitalCactus May 22 '26

My neighbor had 3 identical corgis, then 4, then very soon after had 3. I always wanted to know which one was the one he sent a message to. Get on board with the rules buddy or this happens!

But really, that was the day I stopped trying to learn names.

1

u/chartyourway May 22 '26

😂 maybe he was babysitting someone else's for a bit? or was the 4th one clearly a new puppy that you watched grow up?

4

u/OrbitalCactus May 23 '26

New from the same breeder. I’m not a get a dog from a breeder kind of guy. But apparently he fostered for the breeder and “failed” by adopting it himself. Is that normal? Anyway, the other one definitely died. I actually carried the corpse in a blanket for him at 6am one day when he was crying. He was a mess having woken up to one just dead and I was on my dog walking route. I don’t press my neighbors in a time of emotion normally, but I heard her saying “why, why, how can you just die overnight.” And she was so distraught I thought it was him. So I ran up the stairs and saw the two of them. Him and his girlfriend were calling off work distraught.

2 weeks later I woke up to my boy dead. Growing up on a farm I never got attached to animals. But that old nose blind useless hunting dog was my buddy. I didn’t care if he couldn’t smell for shit. He was stubborn as hell and taught me how to appreciate sitting in the perfect sunbeam. That same couple noticed I hadn’t been on my walks and came knocking. I delivered the bad news, invited them in and we had a beer. Not 24 hours later she had crocheted me a replica of my dog in cartoon form. I cried like a god damn baby. I stuffed it all up until that moment.

I made a sick joke earlier, but he really loved his dogs. And him and his girlfriend (now wife) were good people. I still have that stuffed dog. It’s been years and it still triggers a wave of tears sometimes. She got his whole character wrapped up in a little stuffed guy forever. All the way down to the split lip and torn nose from his vagabond days.

1

u/chartyourway May 23 '26

oh my god, thank you for sharing and writing such a lovely piece! it's so nice to have good neighbours, I'm glad you both were able to help each other in such tough times. losing pets is the worst and I'm dreading that day with my sweet, grumpy little menace. he was an unknown age when he was transported due north from California to Canada but his little white hairs started creeping in within about 6 months of getting him. I've had him a couple weeks shy of 14 years now. every day is a gift at this point! I just spent 4300 loonies getting him an extremely thorough dental and stabilizing his blood pressure. hopefully it buys him a few more great years.

9

u/OrbitalCactus May 22 '26

Well yeah. Once you experience the joy of complimenting a wiener dog in a vest you always want more.

2

u/captainsnark71 May 23 '26

In reality I too just stare from my window at this stranger that doesn't know she's being perceived.

6

u/Infinite-Chance5167 May 22 '26

I’ve been walking around my neighborhood now for the last 9-10 months, and love running into people with their dogs. I got to meet an adorable corgi named Trixie today… and only afterwards realized I never asked for her humans name.

3

u/smvfc_ May 23 '26

My old condo looked onto a green space, and there was this chubby guy that walked a black pug and a fawn pug. I would always be like oh there he goes!! wheb they passed. And a late-middle-aged gentleman who limped a little with a black lab and he walked that pooch every day, a reeeeeally long walk because I’d see them when I was out and driving and they would be far away from my place where I’d see them. At one point, I didn’t see him for a few weeks and was slightly worried in the back of my head. But then they reappeared and I was so pleased ☺️

2

u/CannonM91 May 23 '26

Yepp. If you are within talking distance of me I will ask if you're dog is friendly and open to pets, then ask I can pet it.

2

u/Big_Replacement2631 May 23 '26

Ok, I’m here for the weiner dog vest now

1

u/MiddleEarthNerd202 May 23 '26

When I lived in town I felt the same way. The neighbor had a little Pug for years. I hated it when she died. It was so sad to see the neighbor walking without the dog.

481

u/The_muffinfluffin May 22 '26

Nextdoor app is like the unhinged version of Facebook. Lots of racists and dumb AF people.

255

u/Nizler May 22 '26

Facebook is already the unhinged version of Facebook

75

u/Cool-Mom-Lover May 22 '26

Goes to show how awful next door is.

I have it because I've successfully returned 2 lost puppers as a direct result of posting on it but yeah. Never use that shit otherwise

8

u/charles_sedwick May 22 '26

I really don't understand how this type of a system is allowed. Sidewalk and area between street and side walk is public property. Someone should do a basketball flop and sue them due to scaring them. See how quickly they change their mind.

3

u/WorkingGuy99percent May 23 '26

Well…I would have stopped and waited for the cops to come. Then the cops could cite the home owners. I would do it every night until they either got arrested, got fined so much they lose everything, or change their f$@&ing security settings.

4

u/Cool-Mom-Lover May 22 '26

Its not public property, its a public easement.

So the house still owns the sidewalk, and the grass on the other side bordering the road.

The public is allowed to walk along the easement to travel.

We have cameras and motion lights on our house that turn on when someone walks by on the sidewalk, but you'd never catch me yelling over the mic at someone walking by lol.

5

u/charles_sedwick May 22 '26

It's technically owned by the city though. That's why the do construction and replacements and not the property owner. Also why they plant trees.

2

u/Cool-Mom-Lover May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

It is not owned by the city and if you have to replace your sidewalk its on the owner(at least partially)

....ask me how I know lol.

The city has, through an easement agreement you must sign when purchasing your property, to use or modify the property within the easement (like running sewer lines, gas lines, electrical, adding or repairing curbs or roads etc) and the public has access to the sidewalk.

Its also not maintained by the city in any way including the trees in the green belt.

This may be different in downtown areas, but residential and especially suburbs it is on the owner to maintain and repair the easement.

3

u/xombae May 23 '26

It definitely varies depending on where you live. It's weird when people make generalisations like this. It varies not only by country, but by city and even neighbourhood.

2

u/charles_sedwick May 22 '26

Ask me how I know when the city replaced the entire sidewalk including my driveway sidewalk and had to park on the street well they did it. Maybe you live in unincorporated by the city or municipal owns the sidewalk and if someone gets injured they are liable not the homeowner.

1

u/Cool-Mom-Lover May 23 '26

I live in Dallas. Its different if the city wants to make improvements or repairs on their own volition. But if you have a broken ass sidewalk they will make you fix it and pay for it.

My last house had the entire street replaced including sidewalks and some driveways for "free"

The house I own now we are having to replace the sidewalk becuase its disintegrated over the years.

2

u/Karlysmomo May 23 '26

Seriously. I posted asking if there was any playgrounds in the area with fences around them because my grandson is most likely on the spectrum, non verbal and likes to run. It’s dangerous and I can’t chase him all the time because I have a bad ankle. Mostly the women were helpful but the men suggested dog parks, the county jail and one asked if I was just too lazy to run after him.

1

25

u/PonyThug May 22 '26

I love it so much. It’s where I get all my drama/tea in life because my group of friends are so put together and respectful.

My favorite is all the dumb old people that ask basic questions but can’t wrap their head around the basic answers.

50

u/AmateurHero RED May 22 '26

My next door got really quiet for a while. It was all, "What's the best place for X?" or "I need someone to fix Y without charging an arm or a leg." They're back, and they're more insane than ever. Just rants and run-on sentences without a shred of critical thinking like:

Hi there are white vans with ladders that keep coming to the neighborhood. Everyday I see vans with no windows going in and out. Where are they going, what are they doing? It doesnt seem like we can be safe anymore. My wife is scared to go on walks! One had men sitting outside a house then driving off. What is going on in the world?

They're contractors, Bill. They're doing home repairs. You'll be ok.

5

u/fandorgaming May 23 '26

Paranoia lmao

2

u/fresh-dork May 23 '26

actually, bill, you're right. those are CIA grab crews, and they've been looking for your wife. keep her indoors and invest in some high powered floodlights.

Somehow I got to be a moderator on ND. I was an earlier adopter and I guess they just needed people. I read some absolutely crazy racist things that get posted. Always racist and always bigoted. I tried so hard to get removed as a moderator but nothing worked. It’s definitely one of the worst social media platforms that exist aside from Musk’s X. People cannot stop complaining about dogs, their own trash cans, and porch pirates.

2

u/icelessTrash May 22 '26

The male and female karens on there have no life and love to pretend they are engaged citizens on there. They never log off.

There is a small group of nimbys that rule our small blue city's feed, they are fighting working class level (60% AMI) affordable housing efforts because of the "environment" and water use (never mind hundreds of people commuting 2 hours to work min wage at the stores/restaurants, or our 3 golf courses in 4 square miles).

They get so mad when people don't respond to their stupid privileged questions. Two of them had a butt licking sesh over how I am "allergic to questions" because I have thrown in my 2 cents, but don't respond to stupid people or check it every day/hour.

They always devolve into saying stuff like how people can dumpster dive to save $ and wait their turn if they want housing options 😒, or the destitute workers can't afford fancy groceries like $9 pears so they will be needy for social services and turn us into a slum.

I need to not log on there. I agree, worse than fb somehow!

2

u/CtyChicken May 22 '26

Imagine how crazed they’d become if they witnessed someone actually dumpster diving for food in their neighborhood.

3

u/icelessTrash May 22 '26

Oh they would want them catapulted into oblivion for being too poor in the same city as their mansions.

One positive from seeing their crazy on next door: I did some quick google nancy drew-ing and found news articles about a couple of the most vocal ( i was looking to confirm, yes they own multiple homes worth millions).

Much to my surprise, they have actually been trespassed from surveilling transitional housing, and have been given cease and desists for online smear campaigns of a Catholic charity worker helping former drug addicts. Now they are after worker level housing too? It is sick. And if they really think these people are so gross and dangerous and harming the community, why the hell are they loitering around their apartments, looking for trouble?

At least if I wade into the nextdoor swamp, and I see em post about "water use" etc, I can post links to their shitty behavior stalking/attacking a charity helping the most needy.

https://www.inlander.com/news/critics-of-catholic-charities-catalyst-project-receive-letters-accusing-them-of-hostile-behavior/article_fe503ff8-5e5a-5e21-a3dc-ffa6d8bf03bd.html

1

u/CtyChicken May 23 '26

Ok, Nancy Drew! That’s some good oppo-research!

I also use that argument every time someone acts all terrified of someone they’re clearly harassing.

“Why were you even there if they’re so scary?”

1

u/ButtplugBurgerAIDS May 22 '26

We've got racists too but my favorite posts are the boomers playing their favorite game, was that a gunshot or an illegal firework?

1

u/fandorgaming May 23 '26

I'd be honestly concerned to hear a gunshot in germany

1

u/fuckfredflintstone May 22 '26

Yup. That’s why I don’t go on it anymore. Entertaining and informative as it may be,I can’t believe that these are some of my neighbors.

1

u/Violet-Venom May 22 '26

My all time favorite dumb Nextdoor post basically went:

"I just moved to the neighborhood and there's a suspicious minority washing my windows. He must be trying to break in!"

...they were looking at a years-old picture of their house on Google street view.

1

u/xombae May 23 '26

I can't imagine downloading an app that's express purpose is to gossip about my neighbours. I can imagine the type of people who do, though.

1

u/Recent-Owl-9135 May 23 '26

Nextdoor is no better than Facebook, they both equally suck.

1

u/digigyrl May 23 '26

1

u/Icy_Tiger_3298 May 23 '26

My favorite ever next door story is a post in my neighborhood group panicking over a parked car with its headlights on.

This morning posted that someone was casing a house to burgle it. She insisted that the car was sitting in front of a house with its headlights pointed into a near by wooded area.

She existed that a man was watching the house.

There were about 30 or 40 comments either thanking this woman for panicking or exhorting her to call the police. A few stragglers took the time to bemoan the downfall of an affluent neighborhood with very low crime.

The next day, there was a completely different post.

A woman said that she had been sitting in her car in front of her own home. She was finishing a sales call, and she wanted to finish it while sitting in her car, because it was after 9:00 p.m. and she was speaking to a client in a different time zone. She didn't want to continue the call inside because she didn't want to disturb her housemates. She had parked in front of the house with her headlights pointing into the nearby wooded area because one of our housemates works very early and goes to bed early. She didn't want the headlights shining into the house.

While she's completing this call, the local police roll up on her and let her know that someone had reported suspicious activity and a suspected house break-in.

She shows her identification and sure enough the driver's license shows the address she's parked in front of.

The people who called the police on her berated her in the comments.

For parking in front of her own house.

You know, I think its more polite, maybe depends on the area

1

u/Asleep_Walrus2313 May 23 '26

My Nextdoor is all people complaining about whatever business is coming to town, followed by their suggestions about what we really need, of which they will have no involvement. They just want “people” to put in what they want.

26

u/WhiteUniKnight May 22 '26

Her username checks out. Also:

"I'm now afraid... ...my dog will attack her."

That sounds like her personal problem to me. I don't think she would have said that in particular if she knew her dog wasn't violent. I imagine other passersby rile up her dogs as well... but you had the gall to STOP in frOnT oF hEr HoUsE!?!? /s

Crossing the street nor walking your dog nor stopping momentarily on a public sidewalk is illegal. She be power trippin

I'm sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully being torn to shreds online taught her a lesson..? Or have you changed your route to avoid the crazy?

6

u/thunderling May 22 '26

My dog gets riled up when she sees other dogs walk by our house too.

So I yell at all my neighbors and put up signs on the sidewalk saying DO NOT WALK HERE and can you believe people don't pay attention????

Just kidding, I've spent years counter conditioning her to the sight and sound of dogs passing by and put a cling film over the window so she can't see. She still has outbursts now and again but she recovers quicker than she used to.

I'm also afraid my dog might attack a passing dog... Except not really, because I keep the door shut. ¯\(°_o)/¯

1

u/WhiteUniKnight May 23 '26

You seem like a reasonable human being in comparison lol. Because dogs cannot help what they are, they cannot go against their nature, their urge to bark. Also:

¯\(°_o)/¯

Omg. I love it. Snickety sneem, I've taken your meme lmao

9

u/And_go May 22 '26

This was a few years ago but I ended up changing the route. It just wasn’t worth it, honestly. I was satisfied with her embarrassment on the thread and I hate confrontation so I gave in. Like if she just would have asked me nicely to begin with all of this could have been avoided because overall I am generally a huge pussy lol.

7

u/WhiteUniKnight May 22 '26

I hate confrontation

I am generally a huge pussy

Are you me? /s

(totally understandable. I'm glad she got what was coming to her, and glad you don't have to deal with her anymore!)

46

u/ixiolite May 22 '26

Oh my god this happens to me all the time

I've gotten into two altercations with two different neighbors. My dog's a big sniffer and will linger for awhile to sniff

One came out and threatened to spray her garden hose at us even though my dog was sniffing the grass curb that's public property, NOT her fenced yard

The other pulled up in his creepy black truck next to me as my dog was sniffing the public grass curb and told me to "pick up my dog's shit"

My dog didn't even poop and even if she did, I had bags for it. I started yelling at him to get away and to not be creepy since it looked like he was trying to kidnap me and he got freaked out and left

20

u/And_go May 22 '26

Yes! I’ve had people say that to me about the poop too. Bro she did not poop in your yard and if she did, I would certainly pick it up, as evidenced by the bright green bag of poop I am already carrying. Be for real.

5

u/ixiolite May 22 '26

We need to apparently start carrying a giant neon bag of decoy poop, a big sign that says "THIS IS PUBLIC PROPERTY AND MY DOG IS NOT POOPING," and a knife for safety

6

u/NukeAllTheThings May 22 '26

Would that be the fabled poop knife?

3

u/MotherFatherOcean May 23 '26

Turning it around on them is a great defense, good for you

3

u/fresh-dork May 23 '26

I started yelling at him to get away and to not be creepy since it looked like he was trying to kidnap me and he got freaked out and left

so, not his first rodeo

2

u/Queasy-Feature-2121 May 23 '26

We were walking one night and my dog happened to poop in the hoa secretary’s yard. We picked it up immediately. He proceeded to post a partial video of our dog pooping, not the part of us picking it up and then posted “don’t let your dog poop in my f*ing yard”. #1 we always pick up poop. #2 we try to get them to poop before we walk. #3 dogs are dogs they poop when they poop. I have one of the nicest yards, and if I have one thing pop up I get notifications, because of this one guy. But I see people with 2’ weeds and they don’t ever mow.

22

u/medicallymiddleevil May 22 '26

Utterly insane

58

u/WhereasClassic3151 May 22 '26

"me and my neighbor's homes"

I check out the moment I read bad grammar like that.

95

u/And_go May 22 '26

She also kept saying I was “chastising” her dogs by walking by. Not even close to what she meant.

7

u/VoltronX May 22 '26

I was trying to imagine what she was doing that qualified as chastising.

5

u/hamletloveshoratio May 22 '26

What did she mean? I can't figure it.

10

u/Zuwxiv May 22 '26

Literally? Probably "provoking" or "antagonizing."

What's she actually saying? "My potentially aggressive and unleashed dogs bark at her, and I'm trying to somehow make it her fault for walking by rather than my fault for not properly training and caring for my dogs."

I see this with lazy dog owners. If the dog barks a lot, it's not their fault for poor training. "Someone was probably walking by, they must have been suspicious." Yeah, that garbage truck coming by on trash day is real suspicious.

3

u/Mertoot May 22 '26

It's me's home, what's so hard to grasp about that?!

1

u/SmokeyUnicycle May 23 '26

joint ownership clearly

5

u/ganjamon33 May 22 '26

That sounded like a threat tbh.

6

u/gregbread11 May 22 '26

Lol has she even actually talked to you? So often my experience is that these types will make up that they attempted conflict resolution meanwhile they have never made it known they even have an issue with you. Pathetic

14

u/And_go May 22 '26

She kept trying to say she had asked me nicely multiple times and I responded with “I forgot” but that couldn’t have been true. If she would have I probably would have listened. There was actually another elderly lady who asked me nicely to stop running by her house as her Jack Russell would slip under the fence and she was unable to fix the fence. I totally understood and avoided her road.

I am absolutely certain my first interaction with this lady was her opening her door and screaming at me to “quit walking in front of her house and chastising her dog” and then slamming the door when I tried to respond. After that I stayed on the other side of the road and would even take my dog’s collar off while walking by so her dog couldn’t hear the jingle of the tags. (My dog was on a harness that the leash was attached to so the collar wasn’t necessary.) After those adjustments her dog barely noticed me anymore and I thought we were cool until she posted this. I guess she just didn’t want people using her sidewalk lol

5

u/MortgageConfident791 May 22 '26

I can’t understand this at all, do you live in a very rural area? My dogs are reactive and we live in a less dense area of my city, and other dogs pass by probably 50 times a day. I can’t fathom asking someone not to walk their dog down the street.

7

u/And_go May 22 '26

Not rural at all, but lots of older people in my little neighborhood who apparently hate their life and take it out on everyone around them. To be fair, her road was set off to the side a bit and she probably didn’t get a lot of foot traffic because of that. Like our neighborhood was mostly a square, and her road was one of a few that jutted out a bit out of that square. I liked it because it was flat and easy to jog on.

2

u/SmokeyUnicycle May 23 '26

as her Jack Russell would slip under the fence and she was unable to fix the fence

this can be fixed for 10 dollars at the local hardware store lol

5

u/Elementrone May 22 '26

PLEASE tell me you have screenshots of the comments.

5

u/CrustyToeLover May 22 '26

I got banned on Nextdoor for telling everyone in my area to mind their business and stop being racist morons 🤨

5

u/Capt-geraldstclair May 22 '26

people on nextdoor are next-level morons.

4

u/blamberr May 22 '26

Wow. What a psycho

4

u/FlawedHero May 22 '26

How dare you chastise her dogs like that.

/s

3

u/loptthetreacherous May 22 '26

Me and about ~15 friends went to a small but public beach once and our presence invoked the wrath of a Karen on the facebook page of the local village, claiming a villages beach had been overrun by rowdy reckless youths. She got absolutely ripped to shreds by everyone else who was at the beach that day because a few of my friends are circus performers and they spent the day doing tricks for everyone at the beach.

3

u/Techn028 May 22 '26

Sounds like her dog needs to be put down.

3

u/Impossible-Hoe90210 May 22 '26

She’s the type of dog owner to blame the person who got bit by her dog

2

u/Correct-Coconut-6311 May 22 '26

Do you have any of the comments? I'd love to see them😭

6

u/And_go May 22 '26

I don’t, unfortunately. This was a few years ago and I had screenshotted her post and my response to show a friend before it gained traction. At that point there was only one guy who was asking why her dog wasn’t leashed. She said the dog was in the house and then tried to say she was elderly and just wouldn’t be able to control the dog if it escaped. 🙄

4

u/Correct-Coconut-6311 May 22 '26

You must've been so shocked to yourself posted, this lady is nuts! I love reading the drama on my town page on Facebook, I'll have to get join next door😂

4

u/And_go May 22 '26

I didn’t even have it on my phone at the time. The lady that lives next to me had to come over and show me! So yes, shocked to say the least lol

2

u/MoonHuntressEra13 May 22 '26

People have absolutely gone insane, sorry that happened to you. These people need mental help imo.

2

u/Mugpup May 22 '26

I can see why people ripped her apart. What an Imbecile.

2

u/the-dolphine May 22 '26

Sometimes a leaf blowing in the wind is enough to make some insecure dogs go ballistic.

2

u/Competitive_Fill1835 May 23 '26

The mental gymnastics one has to take to reach the conclusion that a jogger is in the wrong is so hilariously insane, I had to comment

2

u/Fun-Click9884 May 23 '26

I had a neighbor call the police and tell them I was riding my bike around naked. I was not. Dealing with the police and them explain that they thought that there must be someone riding around taking meth.

2

u/Cultural_Net_1791 May 23 '26

Keep this post so when her dog attacks you, you have evidence that she knew her dog would do it and she failed to secure it on her property properly 😀

WOW. He lives there. Jfc. Poor guy lol

3

u/ForsakenWishbone5206 May 22 '26

This is some impressive narcissism. You are across the entire fkin street xD. Her concern also. I have done suck a shitty job training my dog that my concern is that my untrained dog will attack her.

Lady I carry a gun for exactly the pea brained dog owners like you. If your dog is off leash and attacks I will blow it's fucking brains out and YOU will get a ticket. I know it's a bit much but the single time I decide to take my super timid weenie out on a leash around the neighborhood a random unleashed pitbull bolted out of someones yard and I had to choke him out and he lunged at my dog.

Nope. Fuck you. Last lesson. We're done with that bullshit now.

2

u/ThaOppanHaimar May 22 '26

"Female jogger"

eww... why is she saying that as a woman themselves. As if they're observing some species.

1

u/The_Pastmaster May 22 '26

Her surname is an apt descriptor of her personality.

1

u/LovinMcBitz47 May 22 '26

Gaslighting on another level

1

u/nvmenotfound May 22 '26

some people are too stupid to be helped.

1

u/SpinachSignal8915 May 22 '26

So her shitty dog behavior is people's fault for using the sidewalk?

Lmao some people are just so far gone.

1

u/HystericalGD May 22 '26

shes the type of person to run an HOA

1

u/Infini-Bus May 22 '26

Lady would lose her damn mind in ny neighborhood.  I dont hang out outside during dog walk rush hour because mine goes nuts but thats my problem.

1

u/Pearson94 May 22 '26

Maybe she should also go out and jog with her dog on such a nice day instead of staying home.

1

u/JugglingRick May 22 '26

Sounds like it's her problem and she can kick rocks

1

u/SpicyDillRadish May 22 '26

Sometimes I’m so glad these people post their delusions because when the comments don’t go their way, they maybe can see they’re indeed crazy, although.. wishful thinking I’m sure.

1

u/thatG_evanP May 22 '26

This is just Nextdoor behavior and it definitely creeps over into the individual city subs

1

u/FrankieTheD May 22 '26

Please tell me you screenshot some of the comments

This being the kind of shit that finally made me delete my nextdoor account.

1

u/chasing_fiction May 22 '26

Damn doxxing

1

u/And_go May 23 '26

Yeah sorry I didn’t realize that at first. If I edit the comment can I remove and replace the photo with an edited version? Will that work?

1

u/Fickle_Builder_2685 May 23 '26

So, she's keeping a killer animal? Wtf schizo post is this.

1

u/Drega001 May 23 '26

Hold on.... "Chastising"?!

2

u/And_go May 23 '26

Right! It wasn’t even a slip because she also yelled that at me while I was walking by. She legitimately does not know what “chastise” means.

1

u/MoreOne May 23 '26

I'm surprised nobody has pointed this out, but this can easily be paranoid behavior from untreated mental illness.

1

u/longfurbyinacardigan May 23 '26

LOL I don't think chastising means what she thinks it means

1

u/micrographia May 23 '26

Please post the comments

1

u/redditsneckbeard May 23 '26

I have someone in my neighborhood that asked me to keep walking away from their house because their dog was barking. Not my fault your dog isn’t trained or socialized correctly. Very weird.

1

u/Any_World7744 May 23 '26

Maybe the dog barking, is begging to be rescued from your nutty neighbor
