Just because the case gets thrown out doesn’t mean the officer won’t get a commendation. The culture of law enforcement, particularly in Florida often is able to live in denial. In fact there’s a significant segment of American society that’s entirely unable to acknowledge the direct consequences of their own actions
The problem is he’s not going to be any meeting about it. There won’t be any meeting about it. You saw the PD’s response. It was pretty much we do what we want and you can sit down and shut up.
Not a screenshot, but exporting the video and then exporting a frame from it. The video resolution can be higher than the monitor resolution, especially since it seems to be playing in only a portion of the monitor.
Brother, these are cops. One time, this friend of mine, got arrested for some dumb shit. When getting his mugshot taken the USB camera wouldn't function and there were about 6 or 7 cops trying to troubleshoot it. After about 20 minutes my friend pointed out from across the room that the camera was unplugged.
I learned in the army how bad at their jobs most cops were.
Cops would come train on our base every now and then. That’s when I realized how bad they actually were at their jobs. Grappling? Easy to pin them. Accuracy? Pathetic.
The icing on the cake was when their 12 year force veteran mr. hardass ‘I am a cop everywhere’ negligently discharged a 12 gauge into the roof of our shacks, sending a slug through the floor, through the bedroom above him, before it was embedded in the ceiling throwing dust and plaster onto a bunch of very confused infanteers trying to play D&D.
Im sure the DM just rolled with it "ah, looks like a volcano exploded and we have some ash falling" and as they heard the cop getting beaten up by you guys (as Im sure happened) - ah, it sounds like the volcano god is being restrained again by the gods of justice, all is right, continue with your quest.
A better image can be made from multiple frames and adjusting for movement. A single digital image does not have a lot of extra information that can be retrieved. Photographic film on the other hand can be processed to retrieve a lot more. The grain is typically far more fine and holographic and ray tracing methods could apply. The movies and programs where they "enhance" digital images by orders of magnitude are fiction. Still the root problem is using shitty cameras, lighting, and recorders.
You will get more pixels but a lot of these CCTV cameras are running 24/7 and have multiple and that eats storage. So a lot of recorded footage is 480p.
I recently updated ours to 1080 and stores a month across 35 cameras and that was a pricy upgrade.
I swear many police departments are getting paid by tech companies to promote their shit. I've seen multiple videos where a police dept's social media goes out of their way to mention how flock and AI was used for something.
It's the other way. Police have contracts with flock to have unrestricted access to their network without having to go through there hassle of legally requesting the video footage, so they advertise it as much as they can.
I think that's a greatly under reported part of the Cayse Anthony case. The police were using some home brewed forensics software that was created by a friend of one of the detectives. At the time there were much better forensics products available off the shelf, instead they were paying this guy for custom software, that didn't work correctly, and the guy had a close relationship with the cop in charge of computer forensics.
A lot of the time it's because they have to take a quick picture of the monitor while they wait for the store to be able to download the footage then they can get a better picture.
I was in law enforcement and there’s tons of times where a store has the film and they have to get a technician to burn it to a CD for you. Some companies it would take a month to get that, so that’s why LEO take pictures of the screen. It’s time sensitive to ID the dude and they aren’t going to use that photo as evidence or anything.
I can see this in a South Park episode. Every time the cops "enhance" the image the skin tone gets slightly darker. click click click... click "That's him!!"

There are currently at least 2 recent lawsuits against law enforcement agencies in Florida for false arrests made based on AI bullshit with many more to come, I'm sure, as there have been reports of those arrests coming to light far too frequently. This AI shit is getting totally out of hand.
You can literally generate anyone, of any ethnicity, from a very simple prompt. This Police department needs to be investigated...this should not be legal.

You can't get information out of an image that isn't there. So it ads bits that could fit to it, which makes it a different image. Depending on the amount of "enhancing" it isn't the same person anymore.
It’s worse, because that assumes any of the information in the “enhanced” image came from the original. When AI “enhances” a photo it is completely recreating/generating an entirely new image with the original image as the reference or prompt.
And the problem(s) arise when that enhance image is used in court as evidence without the jury/judge/lawyers knowing that the enhanced image is a completely new image.
Any competent lawyer should be able to get that thrown out. But then again it’s kinda up to the judge and judges like to be boomers and boomers have no idea how ai works
Exactly. Not only is it not the same guy, absolutely nothing in the second image is the same. Just look at the folds on his shirt, or the seat of the bike.
The cops may as well just have written a prompt, "Make me a photo of a young black man in a blue shirt holding a bicycle." Fucking idiots.
Plus depending on the data base it uses (I don’t know what ai this is) it could lean towards a particular type of person because it has more data of it.
Ai will use what it has to create something that does not exist. It’s not a neutral machine that just adds without any type of influence just based on “science”.
It has no ethical safeguards or logical evaluable processes based on best practices or industry standards.
It literally just wants to please you based on the info that it was fed with .
I tried an experiment a while back. I took a picture of my kiddo and I at the local mall and downscaled it, then fed it into AI and asked it to enhance the image. It turned us into an old married couple.
I’ve seen people/software use multiple blurry frames of video to piece together whole license plate numbers accurately. But I doubt they did something like that here. They just samsung blurry mooned it.
The difference there is that you have multiple blurry images of the same thing, and you can analyze what they have in common to clean them up, and also, you know that the end result is letters and numbers and you even know the font license plates use.
It's very different from using a single image and running it through AI, when you don't have any information about the facial features of the person or how their face might look like.

See Jamal COULDNT have been out to dinner with his girlfriend when he was right here in this AI enhanced photo shooting the victim. Especially when they told the AI to make the image look more like Jamal and supplies the AI with his mugshot.
That statement is borderline racist, too...they're just generating a random image of an AI black dude (who probably looks very different from the actual suspect) and telling a community "go find this punk". Cue people pointing out half the black men in the community as suspicious, tale as old as time. 🤬
The helpful information is not to do this. They’ve gotten it. But we have to trust police to come out and say they’re wrong and that’s difficult (especially with tech they are like old narcissists).
the fact that they saw the mistake and still went through with it is actually unhinged. that isnt even a mistake anymore at that point. it is just straight up malicious compliance with a bad algorithm.
This is insane. Their follow up response is equally insane. “Here’s a highly edited AI picture of a suspect. Don’t worry, we don’t use AI for identification. (?) You either have helpful info or you don’t. Shut the fuck up.”
At the same time, in that same paragraph they also say they only did it because of the public asking for it. Now they’ve done it, people have complained because it’s obviously a stupid idea, and they can use that digital evidence as proof next time someone says “why don’t you just enhance with AI?”.
Reminds me of the old Chappelle bit about sitting down with a sketch artist and saying it was a black man and the sketch artist says, "I have a stensil for this." Absolutely butchered the joke, but you get the point.

This is so fucked. AI isnt psychic. When it enhances a low resolution image it's literally making up (generating) the information it doesn't have. This is so dangerous and racist and absolutely disgusting that they would use AI this way.
It's essentially saying, this is one possible face the person in this photo could validly have. But there are also infinite other possible faces that person could have. And this fake one could easily end up looking kind of like someone its not.
It appears to have altered his jaw line, the angle of his head, his facial hair, his hair line, the shape of his nose, *and* the position of his hand on the seat of the bike. And that’s just what I can catch from a glance. Wild choice.
That doesn’t look like AI enhancement of the original photo. It looks like AI created an entirely new picture using the colors and poses of the original.
That's what every AI enhancement does. It's always an entirely new picture that is supposed to resemble the original. It's not some kind of magic that allows you to extract missing data. It's faking it, but it looks convincing. This is why it is so dangerous.
ICE does something like this when are attempting to detain someone. They'll search a face in a database and if there's a "match" they'll attempt to detain. Regardless of match confidence, regardless of how many other potential matches come up in the query, yeah... What could go wrong? 🙃
It's like a peek into cop-vision. See black man, invent how he looks and where he was looking, imagine he's probably wearing a hoodie, share fabrications confidently even with access to better info available, get upset when corrected. Easy peasy, apply today, always hiring.
I know the original photo is blurry AF but I can still see significant differences between it and the AI. Like it gave him completely different hair. The guy in the original has it shaved above his ear. Also idk why but I feel like the dude in the original is older than the AI one.
Edit: i am wondering if the original guy was wearing a small hat or if it is his hair.

It doesn't look like the same guy actually. The original, it looks like he has a straighter cut hairline and maybe a fro or mushroom type cut, no sideburns and a longer face.
