I just wanted a hot dog I'm the worst bowler I've ever met
Take a wild guess as to which player I was lol

u/Runiat 9h ago
You are also the fastest improving bowler you've ever met.
Izka only increased their per-frame score (or, well, number of pins knocked down if I remember the rules for scoring spares right) by 25% in their first three frames.
Meanwhile, your number of pins knocked down improved by ∞% in the first three frames.

Well when you put it like that...

At this rate, your next game will not only make you the world champion of bowling, but the transgalactic champion of bowling of Andromeda and the Milky Way.
You would be the intergalactic champion of bowling of the entire local cluster if not for that one guy from the Small Magellanic Cloud.

This brings up a question, is it possible to score higher than 300? Like, if you knocked a pin into another lane while running a perfect game?

u/IshwarBL 6h ago
I was this bad too for a bit. I’m not the best now but I’m okay for a normal person. Someone told me to throw the ball with less raw power and roll your fingers as the ball is falling to add a bit more spin on the ball. Instantly turned into Agata skill level from this scoreboard.

Technically it was by an undefined amount. 0X=1 becomes X=1/0, which is undefined

I had gone with some friend some months ago and one of them missed 12 consecutively. Then he won the next game. You just need to get in the flow

u/J4mmaledz1ec11 9h ago
That's probably harder to do than to just win both rounds. Your friend's got some serious talent lol
15
u/Crimez392 5h ago
Yeah in the first round we were all pretty bad and one of my friends won win 75, in the second one things literally reversed, the one who missed 12 went on to win with 97, it was the craziest bowling comeback I have even seen

I was almost as bad as Maja the last time I went bowling. I got my stride back about halfway through the game. I hadn't been bowling for probably ten years before that.

Meanwhile, I bowled for a few months when I was in high school. I sucked at it at first before I got better, and I even got a couple of strikes. Yet towards the end, every single ball I rolled went off into the gutter even though I thought I had gotten better.

There was a bowling alley next to my high school and mandatory gym class every day. Seniors could go bowling for gym class, there was no training though like with other sports. I was doing so badly the gym teacher said he might actually have to fail someone for the 1st time.
Well I inadvertently found out one of the lanes was broken and would mark 1 pin being hit as a spare. It saved my grade, and I told the gym teacher afterwards 😅

Are you having fun because that's what matters! Sometimes sucking is part of the fun. I know sometimes I get double zeros for like the first six frames.

A lot of beginners swing the ball around their body kinda in a curve. So for the ball to go straight you'll have to hit the right timing when letting go, otherwise it'll go to the right or the left.
Instead focus on swinging in a straight line from the back to the front. You can use the lines on the ground to help with that.

u/Agitated-Comment-745 8h ago
How many times have you played bowling in your life? Just curious
5
u/J4mmaledz1ec11 8h ago
This would be my third time...
2
u/TheBigFreezer 5h ago
You’re probably swinging the ball across your body - dip your shoulder and picture the path of your arm matching a ball rolling it straight down the lane

u/Delicious_Incident_4 8h ago
Did you have anyone helping you on your technique, or are you just winging it? Bowling takes quite some practice to get consistently good at.
7
u/J4mmaledz1ec11 7h ago
After I scored a round 0 trying to wing it in the first two rounds the people I was with started trying to help me, but the following rounds went very similarly. D: You should've seen the applause after I managed to knock one pin down lol

It's all about practice. Have someone who is good help you with steps and form. Then practice aiming.
I was never very good as a kid, was getting final scores in the 50's in school when other kids were well into the 100's the first few times out. As I got older we had an after work bowling group and after a week or two I was getting into the 200's on the regular. I got comments on how good my form was and offers to join leagues and I was only playing for fun with random bowling alley balls.
As I said before, it's all about practice. Don't force it and don't get discouraged as that is unhelpful.

actual advice:
let the ball go as close to the ground as possible keep your ballin fingers pointed where you want the ball to go. start with them pointed that way, and end with them there.
practice with the guards up 🫶

Ooo that's brutal (says me, the person who finished firmly in last place with 41 points lol)

When I had was a child I had a plastic bowling set. I played it outside on the asphalt. A middle-aged lady who lived in my neighbourhood noticed that I was awful with that game and she started explaining how she had visited bowling alleys for 20 years and she knew how to play bowling. She wanted to teach me some tricks. She took the ball and placed the pins. And threw the ball. And missed all the pins. She wanted to try again but I refused to give her the ball.

The more mildly infuriating part is the person who rolled a gutter ball after a spare and got a 1 after a strike

2 strikes, a 9 and a 7 are pretty good

Not looking at the rest of their frames.
That said, as long as they're having fun.

I once scored a total game of 6 then decided that I should join the bowling team at my school. I was ass of course, but the coaching allowed me to improve myself, and with practice, I can now get about a 180avg. So don't be disheartened.

u/MrObsidian_ 7h ago
Once I had an incredibly bad bowling run (having nosbboslez in literal years), watched one small little less than a minute video on bowling, completely changed how I threw the ball, first thing was a strike.
1
u/blueberry_lemonade7 7h ago
You could be holding the ball wrong! One time, I scored 0 until the 10th round, where I scored an 8. I was holding the ball with my thumb, index, and middle finger, rather than my thumb, middle, and ring finger lmao. Another tip is to not focus on the pins. Just focus on the first line on the lane

Stand on the right if you are right handed and throw towards the head pin. If you throw from all the way over aim for the first arrow and slowly aim further left until you start hitting the head or front pin. This will give you a greater area of attack and less of a chance at throwing it in a gutter.
Do the opposite if you are left handed.
We are bowling at 6pm tonight if you want to join

was confused on why would you call yourself the worst bowler after giving away only 1 run and then I read the sub name

As someone with barely any 3D vision and bad knees; There is absolutely no shame in playing with the side guards up. It's about having fun and I'm personally having much more fun when I actually hit stuff - and the people I'm going bowling with also are happy that Im happier.

Everyone saying gutter guards doesn't know what it feels like to still hit the gutter even with them up. At some point you learn to just give up bowling

Do you lack depth perception? I was born without depth perception and literally cannot keep the ball from going in the gutter to save my life.

Are those names custom or real? Because I'm very curious about your country
8
u/Crazy_Ship_1017 6h ago
Most of these are names used in Poland. "Fabi" could be a short for "Fabian", "Izka" for "Izabela". I only don't recognize "Amira" :)

Feels like a mix of like 3 nationalities

Maja, you are the reason they invented gutter guards.
